    Great job helping advance the art and science of coffee!!! Yes was very wired after getting new espresso machine and dialing in my home roast. After about 5 shots of espresso making sure to spit out the shot and rinsing with water, I had no sleep that night. I'm curious about decaf blends and caffeine content. That said great job planning this out and executing the plan.

    Before seeing the end of this, I read years ago that espresso is actually very low in caffeine due to the fact that the coffee isn't in contact with the liquid long enough to "extract " much
    caffeine. Interested in your results! Good job!

      Hey 1, Thanks for the comment! Yes, contact time def plays a role. It seems the pressure of the espresso brewing process may compensate a bit. But in the end, an average single shot of espresso usually has less caffeine than a typical drip coffee - especially if it's the 16oz Starbucks from day 1.

    Thanks for doing this test. You must have spent lot of time and money to run this experiment. Much appreciated. Very interesting test results. Btw the only time had too much caffeine was when I was in college and a group of us would meet and study at local coffee shop. That shop had a rule that you could sit only up to an hour. So we were forced to order something every hour, which I obeyed. Ended up ordering five cappuccinos. I think I was trying to impress someone back then 😂

    Grat work Marc. A regular drip machine, ok what’s regular, would have been nice for some comparison to high end real coffee drinkers, like your viewers and say a new viewer looking to upgrade to something more, say specialty to them. Enjoyed the video, stay cool. And as my lovely sister would say, “Peace out,” 🤞😉☕️☕️

    I dabbled in home roasting, and did a trade with a guy for some ROBUSTA beans. I roasted them and blended with Sulawesi and Costa Rica 10% robusta, it was absolutely rocket fuel!!

    Hi! Came across this and have done some research online, but would love help from the experts. I have a Gaggia classic pro 2019 and my shots are coming through way too fast! It appears as if there is nothing restricting the pressure and water is free flowing straight through the machine. Would love any troubleshooting tips or if you know of someone that has come across this!

      Hi h, Sounds like your grind is not fine enough. Here's a video which shows how to dial in grind size: ruclips.net/video/unHHToGjshI/видео.html
      If you're using pre-ground coffee make sure it's been ground for making espresso. Coffee ground for drip brewing is too coarse for making espresso. If using pre-ground use the pressurized filter basket which came with the machine. It's the one with a single very small hole on the bottom. This video covers first use and how to use the Gaggia Classic with fresh and pre-ground coffee: ruclips.net/video/QYWeCagAS2E/видео.html

    Love your videos, Mark! Recently bought the Academia from Whole Latte Love because of this content.
    Question, would a 4 ounce shot of espesso have twice as much caffeine as a 2 ounce? Or is there diminishing results (1st ounce 85mg, second 80mg, third 70mg, fourth 50mg?😊

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Месяц назад

      Hey VPD, Thanks for the comment - I love the Accademia. It remains my super-automatic daily driver. I need to test but my guess is a 4oz shot would not have double the caffeine of a 2 oz shot. Probably not even close. But if you made the a 2oz espresso using a single grind cycle and the 4oz using the Boost strength setting (2 grind cycles) then yes, double the caffeine.
      Marc

    • @VidPixDrone
      @VidPixDrone Месяц назад

      @@Wholelattelovepage... that is my guess too... of course if the second 2oz is done with a second grind, then it would be double... but if done with a single grind, I would expect it to be much less... so maybe, the question is, how much caffeine in a 1 oz shot, a 2oz shot, a 4oz shot and a 6oz shot (or whatever the max is)... all with a single grind.

    If i understand correctly with the total caffeine content calculated the drink type is irrelevant and the same amount (~175mg) is in a double shot, cortado, cappuccino, latte, etc. Is this correct?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi z, You are correct! Either of the Americanos in the video could have been straight espresso and would have no change in caffeine.

    How much caffeine is in a 3-cup mocha pot? I use 150ml water with 18g of medium roast coffee. The final yield is about 100ml of coffee. I love the taste and body of the mocha pot coffee but the 3-cup feels too little to me. I'm tempted to do the 6-cup version which should yield 200ml of coffee for about 26-30g of coffee but I worry that it might have too much caffeine. Thanks

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  25 дней назад +1

      Hi 3, Thanks for the question - I'll have to run some tests on moka pot brews. My guess is caffeine will be higher than the espresso tested using about the same weight of ground coffee in this video due to the longer contact time and typically higher brew temps of moka prep.
      Marc
