    It's not that anyone dislikes rematches it's that we don't like uninspired 4 week, 4 single match feuds with no heat, little enjoyable wrestling, and no real finishes. Especially when they don't lead to a decent PPV match.

After Nakamura won the WWE Intercontinental Title off Crews, they have faced each other 4 times in singles and multi-man matches in the previous two months, of which Crews has won exactly 0. They've made any match that has Nakamura vs. Apollo Crews a snack break match because you can see the finish a mile away, and in a bad way, because they've beat the piss out of it. To defend the emailer here, depending on their age, they may have a bad taste in their mouth about rematches because of WWE. Especially within the last 10-15 years. They “build” a match to the PPV, only about a month or so if their writers have that attention span, and after the “big” PPV match they have the same match on Raw the next night on free tv with no further explanation or stipulations. What’s the point? Jim is right to be aggravated here but I think he misread why some fans don’t like rematches. WWE is a huge reason for that detriment.

    What Jim described is exactly how Vince/WWE books feuds these days with endless rematches and dusty finishes. It just doesn't work anymore. There is far too much entertainment available in this day and age for people to be okay with watching non-stop rematches in a short span of time. They'll just lose interest/attention. I think rematches can still work, but you need to space them out and build a good storyline around them.

    It's an interesting topic. I think part of what happened is that with the territories going extinct, wrestlers started to get stale working for a promotion instead of being able to go elsewhere and come back fresh. The same happened with rematches. I also think that the styles of wrestling became so similar in companies that you didn't get wrestlers that gelled together, but wrestled very different styles, thus making rematches burnout quickly. Even in All Japan in the 90's, Kobashi, Taue, Misawa, Kawada and Akiyama all had vastly unique styles and their rematches never got old. In fact, they build upon them and it made their rematches even stronger.
    And in the end, when Vince McMahon is writing it, it's going to be uninspired and just lousy after a while to make you bored to tears.

    When I was a kid (lol they still do this) WWE would always have people who wrestled on a PPV wrestle eachother just on Raw not too long after. Sometimes jazz it up with a six man tag. The problem is most of these feuds aren’t interesting enough to have guys wrestle a match every week.
    Basically their would never be enhancement matches, or just two guys involved in different feuds wrestling eachother cause they’re on a wrestling show. We’d see a non title rematch 8 days after a PPV.

    Maybe that's one thing I did right. Avoiding rematches wasn't even something I thought about, until their third match in a row...I probably did it all wrong, but even a mark booker like me saw value in rematches. Hard to have a rivalry, let alone a feud and or program without them.
    As a fan I really only get annoyed when over half of the matches on the card are rematches, and even then there have been such shows that I liked...well there are other instances, but I think the comments have described them well enough already(RAW).

  • @doylemurphy152

    The only way fans frown on rematches is if they are rematches from matches we did not want in the first place or Raw and Smackdown having rematches to kill time during the COVID Era of the Thunderdome. Vince found a way to make us frown on them here in the last 2-3 years.

  • @Kain40
    @Kain40 2 года назад +1

    Only rematches fans frown at with are the ones that were crap the first time around.
    Problem is that fans just aren't as invested in these feuds anymore since people got smart to the business, and have become more concerned with who's getting "pushed" or who is a complete dick backstage, than the matches or feuds. Doesn't help that wrestling companies nowadays can't seem to book worthwhile feuds either to get people to care.
    Last ones I can remember were Daniel Bryan and Becky Lynch, and those were by complete accident in defiance of what WWE wanted.

  • @bettyblue1465

    I think people love rematches. What they don't like are useless rematches that go nowhere. Like on Raw you'd get the same match 5 weeks in a row with no stipulations added and nothing that makes you wanna see that match again. Then the matches just stop and you come out hating rematches.

I’m not saying ignore the golden days (just like we compare 80s cinema to modern films) but why would 80s tactics in a non internet world be relevant to the current conversation? I don't think the issue is that people just want to see the next trick, it's that WWE has had a lot of boring feuds continue for too long over the last 20 years. Especially in the mid card where there were feuds that were literally the same two guys wrestling every show for a month or two.
    AEW has been doing a good job of it for the most part where build back to rematches. They have their flaws on it as well, such as some situations taking too long, or Cody's feuds become too paint by numbers, but it's certainly a nice change of pace I. Comparison.

    I think it's more rematches or feuds that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It seems most feuds are a series of singles matches.
    Before they at least threw in a tag match or 6 man tag match. Maybe have feuds feed off each other again. You have 2 feuds meet up in a tag match and hopefully get people interested in both feuds. By having that tag match you have a option to open up a spot lower on the card for a new match or showcase new wrestlers.
    I think more people are fed up with what seems to be the same card almost the whole month. Normally feuds built up to a ppv match and that's it. Currently Ppv seems to be glorified super shows.
    The only PPV that kinda matter is the big 4. Though Survivor Series needs to have something to fight over other than brand loyalty. I personally think have the traditional survivor series matches fight over the #30 spot for the royal rumble. The losing programs get #1 and #2.(if it's a triple threat SS match) if not losing program gets both #1 and #2. Royal Rumble has it's battle Royale and a lead in to WrestleMania.

    100% agree that rematches are needed but like a lot of things that used to work in wrestling, they are overdone now and not done right. We get far too many rematches too quickly that lead to nothing, 6 matches in 2 months makes you never want to see them wrestle again. But that's what we get now, the match ends in a mess so you do a rematch that ends in a mess so you do another match.

  • @ProjectH1980
    @ProjectH1980 2 года назад

    Feuds do need rematches but the tension needs to escalate for the program to be engaging. Also these rematches have to be spaced by engaging promos and situations to build the feud.
    You can have the initial victory go to the face by surprising an overconfident heel but the heel has to attack the face brutally afterwards. Then you space out the rematch but the second time have the heel cheat to win and don't just go with the lame pulling the tights rollup pin but rather the feet on the ropes, a low blow, an exposed turnbuckle spot, the shoving the referee to counter a top rope move, if a manager is present have him/her interfere.
    The use of weapons or other tricks should be saved as a way to escalate a feud's intensity gradually with both wrestlers trading wins but neither acheiving an absolute victory. Once again the story has to be engaging and always escalating but WWE's feud formula just sticks to opponents together for a few weeks in a boring, lame, uninteresting feud that they can rush to achieve a total of 2 or 3 Payperview matches that usually end in a weak manner add to that their lame, cringe inducing scripted promos and 50/50 lame finish booking and you have the answer to fans hating rematches.
