  • The 11x World Champion takes on the younger generation in the first heat of the competition at the sand-bottomed wonder of Barra De La Cruz.
Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver 2021 Heat Replay of Kelly Slater vs Kanoa Igarashi vs Kolohe Andino, Seeding Round Heat 1.
Fifteen years after one of the best events in WSL history, the Championship Tour makes its much-anticipated return to Barra De La Cruz and one of the most perfect right point breaks in the world. While the last event here was a novelty Search event, this year’s contest brings real gravity and stakes. As the second-to-last stop on the schedule, all eyes are on the WSL Final 5. Some surfers have already clinched their ticket to the World Title-deciding event at Trestles, so there are only a few precious spots left. Who will seize them?

Even though Kelly’s not winning World titles I think he’s still the most pleasing to the eye to watch surf out of everyone

NOBODY on tour has a board that maneuver's like Kelly's boards. So responsive. He truly knows what he likes and the shapers are delivering.

Kelly's 6.50 is underscored, and should be a 7.50. Kelly is surfing with speed, power, and flow. What is wrong with the judges?

While I'd love to have Italo's backhand airs and acrobatic talent, I'd STILL rather surf like Slater than anyone else. His flow through an entire wave is unmatchable. Other surfers can look so disjointed and floppy when they are clearly focused on just trying to find a ramp and recover from airs. And Kolohe STILL, and always will, surfs like a little boy.

I don’t care what kind of snaps or airs kalohe and kanoa were pulling, there is simply no comparison to Kelly’s surfing. The flow, variety and style were not even in the same ballpark. Kinda lame the judges are just rewarding one off tricks over the collective surfing of a wave.

@@coolbeanz359 He is a full on turncoat...PERIOD!!!!! Quick to turn your back on those who taught you. I used to kinda like to watch him surf, but not any longer. EVERYTHING he knows about surfing he learned at HB. It's like being an orphan and get adopte by a couple and you grow into a young man and your biological parents want to "connect" with you all of a sudden and you start calling them "mom" or "dad" when all the time it was the people who were raising you are your REAL mom and dad. Ever notice how he has not been doing well on the circuit as he used since he has made this decision to be a turncoat?
