    You suggest not to have a lorikeet as a first bird but i have done so and don't regret it at all. If i had had an easier bird before my rainbow lorikeet i probably wouldn't have kept him. I think that sometimes starting with the hardest task makes less hard tasks really easy. I literally "jumped in feet first at the deep end" as i had never had anything to do with any bird before my darling Simon. You do have very good general advice and it was a pleasure to listen to you.

    Any tips for treating mites ? The bird is by itself so won’t pick up mites off others. I don’t like the idea of Stirling sprays
    Great idea covering the bottom of the cage like that
    PS I found a all natural wood hollow bed that are found in the small animal section (for Guinea pig)
    High Pressure and steamerS are quicker 4 cleaning and more hygienic (no harsh cleaning agents needed )

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  Год назад

      Steamers are great for cleaning especially the lorikeet cages.
      For mites there are products that can be used to spray the cage and/or birds but in general keeping the cage clean works well. Give lots of bathing opportunities for the bird. Remove perches as red mites hide in the ends of the perch where it connects on the cage and crevices. Check toys, wash cage often.

      Hi! Thank you. Do you have a Big Al's near you? They occasionally have lories. Search for breeders in your area. See if there are any bird clubs near you as usually they list there breeders on the website or try a bird rescue.
      I don't know any lory breeders.

      Love of Pets thank you for your time I really appreciate it. lol i do have a big als thats were i found out about lorys ill keep going back hopefully they will get more in. Would you recommend going to a bird club rather then big als?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад

      Check the bird clubs website to see if there are lory breeders. There may not be any lory breeders at the club. I recommend joining a bird club to learn more about birds and usually you can bring your bird to get him more socialized. You can't buy one from the club as they don't sell birds at the club but breeders may attend.
      You can let big Al's know that you are interested in a lory and they can put your name on a waiting list. Also I think if they have a lory in another store they can bring the lory to your store for you. I would look for breeders first as usually it's best that get directly from a breeder to avoid the one step of the bird going to the pet store. Birds are cheaper from a breeder then a pet store.

    Dazzle is a very nice bird, but I know I could never own a Lorikeet due to them being so messy and requiring extensive clean-up.
    How is Moonlight doing since the bout with bumblefoot?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 лет назад

      Dazzle is very messy and it's a lot of work caring for a lorikeet for sure. Moonlight is doing okay. I treated his foot for six week, it got smaller and the plug in the middle is gone. He is finally back with the flock. I will keep and eye on his foot and treat when needed.

    • @jima9356
      @jima9356 5 лет назад

      Glad to hear Moonlight is doing okay. You put a lot of time into his treatment; he could not have a better home. I will never use plastic perches in the cage; only using wood and tree branches and will use the wrap you recommended anytime the birds have a foot problem.
      I did get 2 of the Anini (18 x 18 x 23) cages for my 4 budgies through the link you provided; the birds are doing great in their new cages. Hope you collected your commission; each cage was $113.95. @@Loveofpets

    Lorikeet vs cockatiel- which is messier and which is noisier

      Lorikeet are much more messier. They are both noisy but lorikeets have a higher pitched sound

    I was wondering, if i watch the ads on your videos does utube or the commercials owner pay you anything for number of watched ads?
    Not to be nosey, i just want to know that you and your pets are getting some $ for all the wonderful videos you post with real information.
    Not everyone can afford to sponsor or donate but we all can watch the ads and let you get paid!
    Love your vids! Keep up the wonderful work!

      I believe that's how it works. The longer the ads are watched the more AdSense I receive. It's not much but it helps.
      Thank you for watching the ads.

    It's Black-Capped Lori, not Lorikeet and mine loves certain apples, pears and bananas but I try not to feed him too much sugar. I've had Kimo Sabi for over12 yrs and got him when he was 6 months old. Kimo doesn't drink water but always has water. He just uses it for a bath.
    I use dog pee pads for pee guards and on the floor. I take Kimo's cage to the car wash and use the high-pressure water to clean his cage. It's the fastest and easiest way to clean his cage and toys.
