- Hi guys! I am so glad you are here with me today. In this addition of Home Short Tips, I'm repairing a water damaged window sill in my bathroom. I forgot to mention this in the video but I hung another shower curtain over the window until it tried completely, this way we could still use the shower without further damage to the sill. Enjoy!

Thank you so much, Jessenia! I never understood why they put windows there either??? Great job 👏🌻💕
Thank you so much for watching Phyllis!💙💙💙
Jessenia you did a great job as a novice. The filler foam was a great idea and the filler with the flex just adds to to brilliance of it all. I can tell you did your homework before trying it on your own. A girl after my own heart lol. Thanks for sharing. I am sure this will help many people!
Thank you so much for watching!
Great video! You make it seem very doable - thanks!
Awesome. I have same exact problem. Just wanted you to know you helped someone today. God Bless.
Job Well Done 👍🏾
nice work, I watched a few videos from "professionals" before I came across yours, and yours is clearly outstanding!
Thank you so much for watching!
Old homes had windows for ventilation, to help with mold & moldew, great job
Thank you so much for watching Pershunda!
Thank you for the simple and easy repair techniques. I did not realize the basic products to use to fix and make it waterproof. Me gusto y muchas gracias!
You need to use Window & door foam, so it doesn't bow your window.
Thank you!! So I guess paint before flex seal! ?!?!? I appreciate you taking your time to make this video…. Always love seeing a woman taking the initiative and getting things done herself. I know I’ve learned things get done when I do it myself instead of waiting on a man to come through ;) well at least the men in my life
I'm glad this video is useful to you. I know exactly what you mean. I love my husband but I hate waiting on a man to do anything for me. 😂
This is exactly what I needed. I’m going to attempt to fix my porch windows. Thank you for this video.
Im so glad you enjoyed my video. i hope it will help you. Thank you so much for watching Theresa!
Thank you for the tutorial, I also have a window in my shower and I have the same issue. I put a shower curtain over the window to try to reduce the damage.
Yes I also had a shower curtain up before I fixed it. Thank you so much for watching Kimberly! I hope to see you again.
i have a window in my bathroom and the bottom wood is so rotten i took it out but i had to take out the whole bottom don't have the money for someone else to do it . your video helped me a lot thanks
Thank you so much for this brilliant solution!
The video I've been looking for!!! And I already have everything in the house . Why didn't I think of this quick fix..lol I have just been putting up a shower curtain to my bathroom window all this time. Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching!
I think the flex seal was definitely the answer to the problem. You did a great job fixing it.. The window looks good & although it’s not ideal to have a window there, I don’t even have a window in my br so if I did I probably would just have put a shower curtain over it to begin with 😂 👍
Yes, the flex seal did the trick. I forgot to mention this in the video but I hung another shower curtain over the window until it tried completely, this way we could still use the shower without further damage to the sill. Thank you so much for watching Gabby!
@@BeThrifty2 You are welcome dear & great idea ..
We have a window on one of our shower walls too. We have the same problem. Thanks for the tips! I may have to do something similar.
Yes, it is so silly to put a window there. I forgot to mention this in the video but I hung another shower curtain over the window until it tried completely, this way we could still use the shower without further damage to the sill. Thank you so much for watching Melissa, I appreciate it.
I have same window and I’m going to try the white flex seal ….. thanks!
Thank you so much for watching Mz Jazz!
Ty your video was very helpful...going to try it myself..
Thank you so much for watching Sue! I'm so glad you found my video helpful.
Thank you so much! ❤
Great job!
Kind suggestion, first use wood restorer to stabilize the rotten wood.
Lol im working on this right now. Also not gonna choose option 1
Tremenda carpintera wow te kdo bien 👍👍👍😘
Muchas gracias❤. Pense que no lo ibas a ver.😂
Nice job. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching Jim! I'm so glad you liked my video!
We have a window in our bathroom which was above a garden tub . We renovated and all materials we used were to keep the water out before we tiled the shower!
Thank you so much for watching Megaladon!
I have a window in mine and it’s the stupidest thing ever. The height is perfect for the neighbor’s tt shot which means I have to figure out some type of window covering but nothing is ideal.
Oh Mesha having neighbors peak through your windows is the worst. Here's a link to a product that could help with privacy. Thank you so much for watching! I hope to see you again soon.

Eeew how gross! I've lived in a lot of places and sometimes there are windows higher up for ventilation, but never seen one at the same level as "regular" windows. That's so weird. Great fix!
looks great, but how many years it can last?
I'll let you know. Thank you so much for watching Steven.
I would highly suggest that you look in the wall cavity underneath this window, you would probably find more rot as moisture almost surely got through. Also, with that much rot, it will continue to feed on organic matter and spread. Lastly, if there is moisture to that degree, I almost always find termite damage. They are usually synonymous.
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your advice.
You are correct sir, there has to be a lot of damage in there.
If the moisture dries out, would the termite go away?
@@walden6272 not necessarily, the colony has a queen that can live for a while, they have a food source, they have soldier termites and whole colony structure etc. so they want to stay.
(You can spray a vinegar and ginger solution to kill them if you want to stay away from chemicals.) But first, stop all moisture leaking into the area or wood where they feed (cellulose). Termites will continue to stay in “dry” Wood . I say “dry” because there is always a minuscule amount of moisture in it. (But the excessive Moisture from an exterior leak or pipe leak is what attracts them in the first place). When they eat this “dry” wood , The minuscule amount of moisture in wood will help them survive as they they derive moisture from their feces before it’s pooped.
@@qmyers367 I stop the leaked. And I see damaged from termites but no live ones. I wonder if they are still there hiding somewhere. Do I have to tear down the whole wall to find them? It's only a one small area seems to get affected by the water damage. I want to make sure I get rid of those termites before I do the repairs.
Could you do this for all areas of the window frame? Like if there were damage at the top of the frame or side?
Yes, you could do this to all areas of the window. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for your video. I'm curious...why wood filler vs joint compound?
Thank you so much for watching Shannon! I used wood filler because the windowsill is made of wood and I already had it in my stash. I think joint compound would've worked as well but I didn't have any on hand.
Hey Jessenia, I want to try your process on a window of mine . Any update on yours? How's it holding up?
Hi Messy nessy! The window is holding up great! No chips, cracks, or peeling so far. Ill post an update on my community tab tomorrow. Thank you so much for watching!
Is there a wood color flex seal.
Really? That's good to know. I only saw white and black at the Home Depot. Thanks.
A question has a question mark “❓ “ at the end. Let us know if you ever got your answer.
Mines got wet from a leaky a.c window :(
Thank you so much for watching Jess! I hope this video was helpful to you.
Justina, i love you. Merci, thank you.
You need to replace it.
Why was water getting in there, from the Shower or the Outside?
The water was coming from the shower which is directly above the window. Thank you so much for watching!
Great job! You probably saved alot too! A contractor would have probably emptied your wallet! : )
Yes, the contractors were asking for way too much. It was a lot of work but I'm so happy we we're able to do it ourselves. Thank you so much for watching!
Wow, talk about band-aid
Have the same issue but worse
Thank you so much for watching Sue! I am so glad I was able to to stop mine from getting worse. It's been almost a year of constant use and my window fix is still holding up well. I hope this video was able to help you in some way.
How long did it last?
It's been two years and it still looks and works great. No more damage. Thank you so much for watching!
Sorry, it's a band-aid. Looks terrible. Sure you will remodel,. You could have purchased Frame wood and cut bottom 10 inches out and replace to match molding . This will continue again in a tear or two. Prevention us beeded
I am not wanting to say this, but this is a mess. You did say you were going to remodel and I assume something is going to happen to the whole window. I guess that is why you did not worry about the globs of stuff on the trim. I have a window in both baths and never had an inside issue. Outside is another story. If you do a rebuild on that window I would use pvc products all the way. I guess this happened from lack of concern as to the water build up. You seem like a very nice lady and I cringed at the video. Keep telling my self, she said it is only temporary.
Hi, thank you so much for watching my video. I appreciate your comment. I don't have the money to do an extensive window remodel yet, but what I was able to do has worked very well for our family. There's been no more wood damage and the window looks better than it did when it was rotting. That's all I wanted to accomplish in this video. I will post a picture on my community page of how the window has held up so far. Thanks again.
@@BeThrifty2 Glad you did not take my comments as being nasty. I see where you are coming from. Now is awful time to remodel.$$$$!! When you do I would be sure to look in that wall under the window. This should not have happened to you and you need to figure out what caused it in the first place. I am not computer smart and know nothing of a community page but I am glad you explained it to me. Your reply was kind and heart felt. I am interested in your future good luck on this project.
Yeah nah.
Thanks for watching
Truly terrible temporary repair and a waste of time. Do it right or don't do it.
Thank you for your comment David.
Uncalled for, not helpful, rude and obnoxious. Clearly you cannot add any value here or better advice. If you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything! Move on!
@@PBandJ8 It is a great service for people to share their expertise by videos. However, if they don’t have any expertise, they shouldn’t share.
David, I never said I was an expert. I state that at the begining of my video. You could have walked away then. I am just sharing a temporary solution to my problem. It has worked very well for me. I have not had any more issues with water in my bathroom. I thought this could help someone who may not have a lot of money like myself. I am also sharing a product meant for this kind of fix for the first time. I thought it could be helpful to someone who may not know about it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@davidwatkins8016 Because you know how to do it the “right” way? Where’s your video, know-it-all?
My dad uses a product called rock hard. It’s a powder you lightly add water to make paste like consistency. You apply it with a spatula, pushing some in the hole or rotten section. Make smooth & level with surface. It will harden to a rock like hardness. It’s paintable & sandable. This is good around windows & door trim especially where water spatter has rotten the bottoms. Remember the ole school weightlifter guy with the round ball weight bar above his head, that with be on the front of the can.
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your advice and will definitely consider it for future projects.
