- HELLO FELLOW DIGGERS AND HISTORY LOVERS!
Just a little off of the beaten track on central Vancouver Island is the ghost town of Bevan BC. Not much is still standing of the old site, a couple of foundations are all that mark the spot. This place has been totally hammered By metal detectorist's over the years, mainly by my digging buddy Diamond Jordy. Something happened this spring, it was lights out detecting for me! Ground condition?Maybe.. What it really was is that I took a new approach to the site and changed up my method of attack and boy did it pay off! So sit back and enjoy!
* Don't miss the endangered Pine Martin Siting*
All music from RUclips Audio Library
Mostly filmed before March 15th.
After that all filming and digging was done while practicing social distancing.
Good to see you out digging! Very nice finds and a great spot you got there! Enjoyed the vid!
Hey Tyee, awesome hunt bud, some nice coinage. All the best and take care.👍👍
Fantastic hunt and great photography, thanks for sharing it. I loved Comox when I lived there as a kid.
Thanks for watching Scott!
Heck of a dig !!! Heck of a location !!!
Thank you Liz, That was a fun one to put together! And Thanks for the support for my coffee! Ill have to get some more over to you! I hear you some parts of Ontario are in for some SNOW! Crazy! I hope you are able to sneak out for some solo detecting away from the rest of the world these days! Wishing you the best!
Digging Canuck hiya Liz! 😎
What a day! Amazing finds! Congrats on your first Vic Largie & first walker! & 2 beautiful fishscales in one day! Stoked for ya! 👍🏻 I love those old small cents! & that old silver ring!? Come on, ya killed it out there! 😎
😂 Thanks Doyle! Very good times! very good finds! I can't say that I'm not pleased 😂. Have you been out much?
TYEE HUNTER Unfortunately not! I have been working like crazy, just got my equinox 600 and a GoPro so I plan on going out to make some content soon! Hope you are well, best of luck on your next one 👍🏻
It amazes me that I recently was detecting within sight of where you were. I did not do as well as you, but only put a couple of hours in.
My best find was a silver plated spoon.
Hi John, So you are local! Awesome! What detector do you use? I've been hitting that spot pretty hard in the past couple of months. Reach out to me of FB if you want to meet up for a dig (Social Distancing of course) I use the same name there. thanks for watching!
How can someone make such and emotionally powerful metal detecting video I have always wanted to do this and this video pushed me to buy my first detector it will be here in a few days I also live on van island in parksville actually so not far away would love any tips and pointers keep up the great work man
Hi! Thanks for reaching out to me. I'm up in the Courtenay area. I'd be happy to give you some pointers as to how to figure out your detector. There are a lot of differences between brands and models as far as capabilities go. I'm really booked up this summer but as we come into fall I'll have a lot more time to detect. I'm always happy to have company. All the best!
@TYEEHUNTER awsome sounds great.I can't wait for my detector to get here I ended up going with the nokta tripple score seemed the best bang for buck under 800$ and the reviews on it are really good look forward to hitting the field with yeah I kinda went up to beven the other day just to get a sense of the land and found 2 old structures coverd in graffiti super thick brush definitely have to do some exploring I don't know what spots are good or bad or where to even start lmfao just going to get out there and hit some dirt have a fantastic day man and thanks for responding
Awesome Video my friend!!! If you want to bring that signet ring back to its former glory, I know a guy here in Vic that does a great job at a reasonable price.
Congrats on the finds bud..awesome! Subbed you...found you through the Canadian Metal Detecting RUclips Channel & Links Facebook page. Keep up the good digs and looking forward to more.
Hey I just subbed you back, thanks for the Sub my way! I just recovered all of my 2020 footage so there will be some new material soon.
@@TYEEHUNTER Awesome bud...looking forward to it! Cheers & Thanks
God I miss the island...in may 2022 I will be back. Amazing finds... where abouts where you.
Large cents still my favourite coins to find.
I'm in the Comox Valley! Thanks for watching!
Well done good video
Hi there, have your tried Texada Island B.C.? This town had a gold rush back in the day. Plus, on the beaches in Blubber Bay you can do some cool mudlarking. Cheers and happy hunting.
Hi! Texada is a place I really want to visit. I can see it from my kitchen table. I was planning on zipping over there at some point this summer in my boat but I need the weather to cooperate and the stars to align as far as getting the chance to sneak away from the family for a day or so. Great history there to be discovered.
@@TYEEHUNTER I grew up on Texada Island and I have so many cool finds from my beach walks. There was a train track in Van Anda near Turtle Lake plus a China Town dumping area with cool things. There was a Gold Rush in our history. I hope you make it over one day. I found cool things on the beaches of Blubber Bay where they used to process whales. Cheers, Kindle.
Nice video. Makes me want to get back out there :)
I'm itching to be set free!
Do you need permission to detect there? I am heading to Comox next week and will be metal detecting for the first time ever, would love to find a place to go
TIA
Hi, I love your channel, great finds! I just got my first metal detector and live in Victoria, any suggestions on some great sites I can try South Island? I'm really struggling so far, both with using the detector and finding where to go. Today was a really disappointing day, anything I found was actually just with my eyes..ha!
Hi Lotus, The key to great stuff is research! Being in Victoria you have the possibility of finding some pretty neat stuff. If I were you id be searching around the Gorge area. Lots of history there on the beaches and along the shoreline which is all Federal jurisdiction and open to detect! Welcome to the affliction!
@@TYEEHUNTER ahh yes, research I've been doing! I've got a stack of local history books! Thank you for the gorge suggestion! I just got a pin pointer so I'm excited to head out again with my detector!
Wow! Very nice. I wonder what whas different about your approach this time around? GL and HH, Sebastian
Thanks for asking! Well there were a couple of things.
1. Getting into the ferns, nobody had done that. You have to first kick your way through to expose the bases of the plants and untangle them, then hit it with the detector.
2. Detect into places bushy places in the woods that you wouldn't go into if you were walking through. Dead ends and tight spots
3. Detect right beside the road, I like to get away from roads and questions as much as the next guy. The woods there are so inviting, working right out in the open paid off.
4. The dirt doesn't care where she hides goodies, detect in the modern trash!
That was it lol!
@@TYEEHUNTER kind of like the hunt I had today. We moved branches, got into raspberry bushes, but at the end it was worth it.
That dude likely climbs up for them eggs.
Great variety of coins congratulations
Thanks Dwight! I just got my footage back after loosing a hard drive with most of 2021 on it. New episodes are on the way!
New subscriber. Y’all had a great day.
NICE!!
Can you detect on any land that's not private or are there rules/ laws ?
Check your local bi-laws, public land has no rules around metal detecting. Parks and schools may have their own rules. thanks for asking.
where do you do this?
Vancouver Island mostly
Do you know of any places I can medal detect on the island
I know lots of spots! Be more specific about where on the island and I'll see if I can help. Sorry for the late reply.
Isn’t this on the res ?....... how’d you get permission?
Hey GT BC I like your channel name! By res you mean First Nations Reservation? If so, those are off limits in my books, 100% respect for FN and Private Property. This site is an abandoned town which has been bulldozed and used as a dump for the last 50 years. A big municipal construction project happening on the site at the moment too, half of it is private property which I would not touch without permission.
What is that animal? I think I saw a black one.... I thought it was a baby cougar tho... lol a black baby cougar ... what’s that called?
It was a Pine Martin. Thanks for watching!
It’s essentially a rat. Baby cougar??!!
