I noticed after you were done setting Jeep into neutral that you didn't release the Parking Brake. Won't that burn it out

    No supplemental braking?

Is that grinding sound normal when you shift the gear back to park? Asking cause my Jeep made that same sound and I panicked.

It only made that sound for us one time and hasn’t made it again.

Yes because it's setting the parking pawl in place! I don't like the owners manual how it says to put it in park after testing to see if transfer case is in neutral by placing it in reverse. I test the reverse procedure to insure the transfer case is in neutral then place transmission to neutral then I shut the engine off then to park!

So do you just not do the test with engine running? Mine makes the grinding noise every time (.or all times I’ve tried it)!

@@hifax1428 We get that grinding noise also. I can't wait to try your method; I do not want the PTU to go out.

Ok just to clarify how I do the neutral test for flat towing! I use the owners manual procedure to place the transfer case in neutral. Then I test it with the engine running by placing it in reverse for the 5 seconds then to neutral then I place it in drive to make sure the transfer case is in neutral then back to neutral then to reverse for the 5 seconds then back to neutral once in neutral I shut the engine off then to park so I don't get the parking pawl grinding. I've done it both ways by the manual and my way sometimes it grinds by using the manual procedure and sometimes not so I prefer to use my way and I've had no problem. I know this seems like over kill but I want to make sure that the transfer case is in neutral and that grinding when putting it in park is putting metal shaving in your transmission. Not good!

Good video. We are in the process of buying a similar Cherokee Trailhawk to use as a TOAD. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to install the base plate myself, but kudos to you for that one. I have a couple question I think you can answer. How do you handle the steering of the Jeep? On our past toad we had to leave the car "on" but not running so that the steering wheel didn't lock. How does that work with the Jeep? And second, have you experienced the legendary "death wobble"?

The Jeep steering wheel doesn’t lock so you don’t have to leave the ignition “on”. We have not experienced any wobble. I think Jeep fixed this issue on newer models.

@@tomsarastravels9150 That's all very good to hear. Thanks for the feedback!

We are towing a 2019 Cherokee and love it. They have cured the death wobble issue. Printed a cheat sheet for my wife to follow during hook/ unhook. Using a Roadmaster base and tow bar and braking system. Lights and TPMS too. Keep on traveling.

We have same Jeep toad. I can’t believe all the step to disengage this transmission . Other than that happy good luck!
