  • On April 20th, 2024, I chased a chartered rail diesel car (RDC) excursion on the Reading and Northern Railroad from Port Clinton to Mount Carmel and return. This 104-mile round-trip excursion was sponsored by the Railroad Historians of the Lehigh Valley and the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society and traversed a significant portion of the former Reading Railroad's Philadelphia to Williamsport, PA mainline.
Beginning in Port Clinton, the excursion traveled north to East Mahanoy Jct, where the train diverted from the mainline onto the Mahanoy and Shamokin branch. They then traveled to the end of Reading and Northern's ownership of that line to a location known as NORA, where the Reading and Northern interchanges with the Shamokin Valley Railroad. Ultimately, this was the first R&N passenger excursion to visit Mount Carmel in decades.
Being a chartered excursion, there were several photo stops for passengers along the route. While I was present for two of these run-bys, I decided to capture a unique perspective of the passengers enjoying the photo run-by, which ensured those who paid for a ticket got the best shots possible.
Additionally, I was joined on this adventure by my friend ‪@JamieMakin‬ ! Be sure to visit her channel to see her video of this epic rare mileage excursion!
Please enjoy this epic rare-mileage adventure on the Reading and Northern Railroad!

Hi Collin, I hope you are excited about tomorrow's May 25 because it is the first Iron Horse Rambles of Reading and Northern 2102. The excursion is from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe.

Nice job on your video! I love the closeup views your camera does compared to mine which makes the locations look fresh and different. Even though I started the day bummed out that I wasn't riding, I enjoyed this chase very, very much! So much so that I ended up glad I chased instead of rode. It was fun sharing the adventure with you as well. Nice finishing touch putting the Port Clinton church bells over your closing scene.

Thanks Jamie! I really enjoyed this chase as well, and it was a lot of fun sharing the adventure with you as well! I’m glad you had fun too, and soon you’ll at least be able to experience most of the route which will be cool, even if it’s not all the way to Mt. Carmel

If you want to make you videos better please add more of your locations like road crossings in by print or verbal especially on the excursions because some viewers will follow on a map.

Thanks for the feedback; Adding the locations on screen is something I used to do and I could bring them back for videos that fit that style. However, I do make sure to include the locations in all of my videos in the chapters of the video. They can be found in the description or along the progress bar of the video, and will include details of the locations within the video.
