- Its October 28, 2023 and we're traveling around central Pennsylvania chasing trains. The leaves are almost done falling off the trees and the temperatures are slowing dropping. We lucked out with the weather in the beginning and the temperatures were warm. It made for a nice day of watching the trains working in the fall season.
We start off with the East Broad Top Railroad 16 and The Great Pumpkin Patch Express. We see it in Orbisonia and watch the train make its way to the grove. On its way back it works through the fields and see it go under the 1 ton bridge, then pulling back into the station. We watch it leave one more time and make our way to the field. Lastly we see it south of the Colgate Grove rounding the curve with the air compressors working hard.
Our next stop is the Everett Railroad in Hollidaysburg with the 11 and the Pumpkin Patch Trains. We watch the 11 leave the station and catch it slipping its way around the bend after crossing the Frankstown Branch Juniata River. We then see it pull into the pumpkin patch at Kladder. Lastly we made our way back to Hollidaysburg to see the 11 move some freight around to take to Claysburg the next day but we skipped out on it.
Our last stop was Altoona to see the Pennsylvanian 43 come into the station and leave. It started to rain a little bit but it didn’t stop us from seeing the train. The GE didn't disappoint as it chugged its way out of the station. The P42s will slowly be replaced by the new Siemens Mobility ALC-42s within the near future but for now we have to enjoy every last bit of it.
Nice 👍
