Watching videos from two years ago - they’re just popping up on my phone as I’m trying to sort my own hoard of books and it’s great!! Thanks Mel! Love the way you talk about books!! Your resident bibliophile here 💕📚📓📖
Lol! I’ve watched this video s couple times now & just barely saw your top you’re wearing!!! Love it!! I love your wardrobe humor, & advertising or enticements 😊 so cute!!! Love love love your personality & you’ve inspired me like you have no idea & we’re very close in age & same # of kids & ages etc. yeah.. just you’re absolutely the best!!
I also have been selling books for the last 4 years and one thing i love is how plentiful books are and how often you get lucky for free books. Free inventory is the best, and since it all came from the same reader, bundling them will be simple! I wonder how much youve made so far from this free lot 🤔
Free is Free. The lady took very good care of her books. Nice Haul - Hope they sell quickly!!! I also like how you finally put the books so you could see the authors quickly. Nice system and Divine Table for sorting!!! Lol
I love watching you with the books, whether you are going through new stock or picking out orders to go out. I've learned a lot of good tips and I love how organized you are. But most of all I love how happy you always are. Thanks for the great videos!
Hi Mel, on your centre bench you were sorting the books on could you add a extension to to give you that extra space when you need it. Like attaching it with some hinges so you could prop it when required. Just a thought 🙂💭
love Linda Laplante-Harlan Cobin -and Ruth Ware- we have a huge book and I mean huge- sale in my area every spring usually takes a few days to get through it all- first day full price (but still really cheap) (MY grands love getting teen series) day two 1/2 price and day 3 by the bag- have managed to get my favorite authors either half price or bag- because they are in abundance (only buy the newest the first day - I read them not sell lol and then donate back the following year- never thought watching someone unload and ship books would be so entertaining- found you while recovering from knee replacement
Great tips about- picoult, la plante and Roberts- Thanks Mel. I’ll be more selective in what I pick up. Without your tips it would have taken a lot of time and effort to figure this out. Love your bundles 💕
Bundling the singles by genre is a good idea. I know many people who almost exclusively read one genre and dont really care who it's written by as long as it's in their preferred genre.
Man you run a tight ship Mel!! So organised! I love trestle tables for sorting but good to make use of space underneath too for storage space..can you add another length of shelves maybe? Yes low end sales are still good for algorithm which then also means more sales!
Yes I have a pile of them to read! I also listen to a lot of audio books while I work. I love to self learn with self help books and I love romance when reading a novel.
We sold $80 of LaPlante in the shop yesterday. Can't tell you the last time we sold a Patricia Cornwell - they are space wasters in the shop. Those books look as if they've never been read - great book hall. We found some obscure Bethany religious romance books in a community book sale fill up a bag for $5. We were shocked to see how much the set was worth. After selling them we came across the same set in an op shop for 50c a book - Yes.
$80 is good for LaPlante! If there had been a set here I would have listed them but with only a couple and in the different sizes I’m not bothering. Those religious books are worth some good money. Great find David! Thanks for watching
Hi Came across your channel by chance and have browsed some of your videos since I have been selling books for a couple of years until I sold off the complete stock of books since I ran out of storage. It was great fun and although I also sold other items - books were 95 of the business - and i streamlined the process as you are doing. I am 76 year old man living in Sweden but I was taken by the utter simlilarity of your process and thinking about how to market and price your books. My sourcing was the same as yours and scanning the sourced books was almost the same. Wrapping the books in plastic was new and would have come handy if I had came across it. :-) Was selling all kind of book but children books were selling well and wwere easy to ship since they usually are small and did not weigh very much. Even sold a lot of the free children books that children get är McDonalds and Burger King and they were very easy to ship. Oddest sale was a children book in the Czechoslovak language that i sold to Japan!!!! Keep up the good work down under - I sometime misses my book selling business. :-) /Jan-Erik Kaiser Stockholm, Sweden
Hi! I’d love to know how you went with selling children’s books!? I’m a primary school teacher/mum and looking into reselling books as a side hustle. I would love to sell picture books but it seems like it would be very low profit? Did you sell picture books? Or chapter books/YA novels? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
@@user-ks1yn7tq3d I was selling all kind of childrens books in any language including free books that they hand out to children att McDonalds etc. Of couse books from well known and established authtors and illustrators sold best. Margin was OK since I got the books cheap or free and there was a USD4 base handling/postage fee that gave a surplus for small and lightweight books. Quality was a key since parents and relatives focus on good books for their children.
Hi Mel, like you say free is great but you have to be selective, Bundle where you can and redonate or dispose what isn't what you want in your store. Thanks for sharing!!
Always love to see your process videos Mel. I was wondering if you could possible make and attach a hinged fold down piece to the new style bench, to give you more width to the worktop, although then it would probably need to be on castors because of the extra weight for ease of manoeuvrability. Free fresh stock is always a winner!
Great questions! I think paperback and hardcover sell equally well. Large print does sell well and can bring higher sales as they are not as common. Large books sell better then small however some of the Fantasy books sell very well as small novels
I see The Last Thing I Remember in your thriller stack. If that's by Andrew Klavan and part of the Homelanders 4 book series it's excellent. It's YA fiction, but I loved it! (I'm 65.) It was really fun to watch this video. Anything about books! :)
Just found your channel. Thank you for the content. So you just sell books on eBay and not Amazon, correct? Also when you say “dollar” do you mean Australian dollar? Just trying to understand your sales prices, thanks!
Welcome! I only sell on eBay. They are only just starting to trial selling used books here in Amazon so it’s not really a thing here yet. Yes my prices and sales are in AU$. :)
Recognised a stack of those books from the mystery boxes that a company called The Book Grocery does $100 mystery box and you get about 35 books. I gifted a lot as presents. And a few on marketplace. Good haul for free! I’d say the person who gifted them purchased two boxes in lockdown like I did 😅
Hi Mel, why is it that Cornwell, Picould do not sell well? Aren,\'t they good authors? Is it because the reseller market is flooded with them? Thanks for another great video.
Just a thought, here is the US we have bookstores that buy used books and give cash or credit. Lately if I buy estate books or lot books I will take the low end books there, and get credit which I buy better selling books for. I have had very good luck with this lately. But either way great free haul and love your videos🙂✌🏼
Hi Mel! This was such a great video. Love that you kept it simple and personal. No music, no extra edits. Though i do love your other vids. This was great too. Have a great weekend!
Hey Mel, if you already have a book in stock, why do you re-photo? Why not adjust the quantity on the original and save the time? Are you worried about the book being different than the other and jsut want to cover that? I wouldn't worry about it if so.. just want to know a bit more :)
I always photograph the actual book for the listing even if I have multiple. Being second hand they can vary in conditions, flaws, page colourings or sometimes pen marks. It’s quick to photograph a book so I’d rather have the exact photo of the books in the listing.
I think Maeve Binchley is pronounced May Eve or Maiv. Not Mauve I did great with my free haul ..did donate a good few but had some exy art books in the lot
Just wondering do cook books sell?. I notice there seems to be more cook books than anything else in op shops and I have quite a few I would like to sell as I never use them.
I work at a school and they are getting "rid" of hundreds of books. I probably asked before but can i sell those books with library checkout pockets at the back of the book and can i sell those library books on ebay?
I spotted two Kate Atkinson books in your non bundle piles, bundle them bundle them! Great video 😊 Edit: I should have been patient- you noticed them! 😂
Hello, I'm new but can I ask help here. I can buy 160 books for $70. They are all Barbara Cartland books. If i sell each for $4.00 all in would $640. But i'm not sure as Barbara Cartland books are old. what you think all in postage etc. Not sure if make profit. If would sell. Has anyone got help here.

You are right. Trying to resell products which are in poor condition and low sellers will only damage your reputation and your store.
Thanks Mel.
Yes they sure will
This is a GREAT example and lesson to NEVER walk away from free stuff, there can be profit!

I am a huge fan of your videos because I always learn something and I love your sense of humor. Those books were in very nice condition!
Thanks so much Cheryl, I appreciate you watching always.
Right place at the right time and also honest in the process!
Yes always :)
Hi, Mel.... It be great if you could do a best selling author vid. 👍
That would be good, yes!!
Also, you can get stuff just by being nice to people and sometimes they just want to get rid of it so it can work out for both parties

Hi Mel in the hardback like you have a Ronnie O'Sullivan book, he's a snooker player so it would be non fiction x
Yes I did notice that after I filmed and was taking some photos!
Great video. I saw a Dean Koontz book in your donate pile - you don’t sell Koontz? He’s a great author like Baldacci, King etc
Great video Mel thank you. I think I am with you on Patricia Cornwall. I also have found her books hard to sell.
A lot of what I sell I get for free from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
