Mel, just want you to know, I often keep your videos up in the background when doing admin work for my stores. You have the most soothing voice to listen to. 💜
Excellent video to watch. 👍 Great job Mel. You obviously love your children very much and want to provide for them. You’re a great inspiration Mel. 😀 I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that you’re super gorgeous as well. 🌷🥰😀
I have been niched down to men’s clothing for about a year but I have to confess; you’ve inspired me to browse the book section at my local thrifts. After weeks of scouting, I bought my first book Saturday! Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, 1976 1st print for $1.50! Just couldn’t pass it up. Keep it up. You truly inspire us all!
You have such great energy, and I heard you say can you still sell at 55, I think you can do it. I've been wanting to sell books, I have so many. I know it's a lot of work but to have something to do, you're inspiring. So thank you
If you regularly re-stock items, you can enable the out-of-stock option. This option means instead of ending your listing, we will hide it from search until you're-fill the inventory. This way you preserve your sales history and also manage buyer expectations. So because I often sell the same books over and over it’s easy for me to use the same listing that I had on a previous book that’s sold as I only have to make minimal changes to the listing (new photos, check condition is graded correctly and update new SKU). Hope that makes sense.
I'm always on the lookout for the Thermomix books, but not seen one yet! Another great video and an enjoyable combination of GoPro picking footage & story telling commentary. Thanks Mel !!
Concerning single books in stacks on shelves. You have a visual memory, but sometimes you search multiple times on the shelf. Have you considered sorting each stack alfabetically (author or title - you pick) so you check that stack once and fast? Depending on starting letter you know you will fx only be checking the bottom of each stack or whatever. When you consolidate stacks spend seconds sorting the new stack.
I definitely try to not put single books on the same shelves if I know I have multiple of them so I don’t get them mixed up. Bundles I try and use SKU numbers on authors I sell often
A new viewer; you were recommended by my daughter! Do you sell only in Australia or do you also do international sales? I thought I had a lot of books but wow and just love your organization
Thank you for watching, my SKU is working well for me at the moment - I can't think of any other way to make it faster for me with the space I have but i'm always open to changing it if I find a better way to do it.
I love the warrior cats books! I almost have the whole series its about 80 books. the spines in the main sage all line up to make a giant sunset and sunrise
That’s a really good weekend. Our typical weekend is only 20-35 sales. For the same reason you mentioned we’ve started pricing the common stuff more aggressively so hopefully that will increase our sell through.
Hi mel, thanks for your content , still missing hear you to say with your accent storage unit, i wonder why dont carry a bag and put the books there this could save you some time, what you think?
Thanks for this video Mel! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gives good insight to what sells and how long things take to sell even for a top seller. Great work!
Very cool video. I like to hear about the books and their stories. It is interesting to see how you store. I would have to carry a basket with me, but I know your routine is a little off when you are trying to talk and record and think about what you're doing. Nice job. I can barely walk and talk at the same time.
Good to see what sold and for how much and how long it took to sell -gave you a thumbs up. Ohhhh yeah Jamie Oliver forget it,,,,,, lucky to make $2 profit per book. Lol. Cheers-
I am a little concerned about the pink mark left from the pink sticky notes. Someone could be buying the book as a gift and since the pink mark isn’t disclosed in the listing they could not be too happy about that. I would want to remove the pink sticky notes, take a picture of the pink stain and add it to the listing. That’s just me. Love the book shed and the videos!
I don’t have many pink sticky notes left on books as I have tried to remove all. There is just the odd book that has one left but those books are in only acceptable condition so I’ll be covered for any small flaws like that
Thanks Mel for that video... I really enjoy watching you going around picking the books :) noticed that on a few of your shelves that you would have loads of room to put more bundles on if you straighten some of your piles :) I look forward to seeing your next video xx
I do not know if it is on purpose but leaving some space to rearrange within the shelf to get to bundles behind or under other bundles saves movements and time. If the shelf is packed the chance of needing to temp stack on the floor or on another shelf and misplace increase.
I have watched a lot of your videos and i really love the channel, i have a suggestion or mabe a question why dont you place your books side ways, like in a library, why put then one over the other, just a question i suppose
Just for space reasons I can't fit as many on a shelf. I would need a different storage system to do it which is expensive and time consuming to change at this stage
Loved the video. I could not hear you breathing but man were you bending and reaching - that is a workout!!! You don’t need to go to any gym - selling books is your gym!! LOL Very interesting what sells.
Get a basket or tote in the room or even a bag on a hook to drop into to save on walking doing really good books don’t seem to sell that good in the us
They are all used and I try to only sell them in bundles. I have a few individual DVDs listed from a big haul I got but I don’t actively buy single DVDs to sell only series or ones I can lot up. I’m picky with my disc quality though as I don’t have a disc cleaner.
Excellent video & commentary Mel especially about the author/sell thru rate on each type of book - very informative. And the Go-pro recording/quality was quite good - which Go-pro model are you using??
Mel, I love you, and I ENJOY your videos, your positivity! Thank you! I can't help but feel like your books sell for much more than mine do here in the states. Is that because of sourcing and knowledge of your product? Soooo many books sell for $4-5 here even new. Is it the bundling? Any suggestions to find and sell at higher prices? I'd love a video with suggestions. You are my hero, and I'm grateful you're here - keep up the amazing hard work!
I think we get higher prices as we have less competition here in Australia with platforms to sell used books. Amazon has only just started to trial selling used books in Australia so eBay has been the main platform to sell books.
Great video! When I finished it, I thought it's impossible! The video is 44 minutes long! The video ended so fast. I really like it, don't worry to repeat it in your next videos.
Love the videos Mell. Well, i have just started and I have 8 books same author and a lot of books also same author. Also cook books, i have a lot of books to list etc. Mell should or do people sell in the bundle or singular same author.

I don't get enough sales to play and work it out, but can you sort your sold items by SKU and that way you're not going all over the shed, but picking from one shelf to the next?
I can’t sort by SKU on the phone unfortunately and I do need the phone to visually see the book, colour or book spine I’m searching for. I wish I could search like that as it would save me going to multiple shelves multiple times.
@@backfromburnout instead of going in and out each time, could you take a basket in and collect several orders at the same time? Would save a lot of time and energy? Also I watched the whole video and did find that in different sections I had to close my eyes as I was feeling quite dizzy with all the movement. Not a criticism at all, but not sure if there is a way for that not to happen. Enjoyed it and very informative.
Hi Mel! US here. Love your channel. As I am in the US are you selling a lot internationally over here to me? When you say sell for $30 that's Australia correct? Because most paperbacks here like N Roberts barely sell for $5 online or even less. I love cookbooks. But expensive and heavy. Thanks!
Yes I only sell within Australia so these are my AU prices and they do include my shipping. I love selling cookbooks but mostly it’s because I love browsing them before I sell them. Hi Mel, what is the price difference between sending in a padded mailer vs a tracked satchel? I tend to pack and use tracked satchels but think padded mailers would be better for some things.

Hey your exercise and making money pretty awesome how long have you been doing this is that room climate control so not do get damp?? How many listing do you have normally per month.
When I originally went through the books when I moved into the shed and I removed them I did go back and take photos and disclose it on those listings.
