Poliwrath in my experience is kinda like ryu or sol badguy an all rounder however he's more defense and a bit more zoner based than the ryu and sol also be warned tyrouge can evolve into either hitmontop, chan, or lee depending on how many special kicks or punches you do
@@dudesayshi2191 From what I can see he seems like a hybrid between Shoto and Zoner, but does not excel as either, which is normal for hybrid characters from what I see. Definitely not able to do the kind of extreme aggression and absurd damage that Sol Badguy can do, and lacks the more well rounded offence/defence balance that Ryu has due to his lack of a DP and anti-projectile moves. His best zoning tool appears to be the air bubble, but that requires meter which means that he is weaker unless he can get momentum, whereas other zoners will have their full kit more readily available. His combos appear short and low in damage without meter as well. It looks to me that he will struggle against any character that can beat his zoning tools, doesn't easily make comebacks, and his lack of defense tools means he will be relying on system mechanics and holding block a lot. Whirlpool seems situational as the setup and the dive ability are both very easy to react to, limiting it to mindgames or specific combo set-ups. In ideal scenarios it could be used to make opponents guess his next move, preempt an opponent's approach using its active hitbox, or threaten against a reckless zoner. However I suspect that the needed set-up and the slow speed of the dive attack means it doesn't often get those ideal scenarios. Power-up Punch is a good tool, but its frame data and how it affects his damage mean it has to be used carefully and cancelling it for combos sacrifices its buff, making it an odd tool. The fact that the buffs are permanent across rounds is very good though. His upsides from what I see are that He has an excellent super and better-than-average air moves, with belly bubble being a very powerful tool even without meter. He also has a cancellable throw which is very cool. I think his air game is probably his biggest strength, especially when combined with bubbles and meter. I wonder what his match-ups are all like. If I had to guess, I would suspect that my beautiful boy Poliwrath is mid-tier or lower mid-tier. It feels like that while he is solid, he is missing something but I can't tell what, and could be just a couple tiny adjustments away from truly shining. Either way, he has been my favorite pokemon since 1999, and I will play him happily.
@@kingofthemoon3063 they actually buffed the whirlpool to make it more of a better oki tool by making it faster too. though they did fix the whirlpool glitch that allowed for unlimited EX versions.

I don’t, Nintendo may send out a cease and desist, because while this game is allowed, too much attention is bad for Nintendo when a fan game has better quality.
@@Ewokpenguin Not true. They can send a cease and desist regardless since it's an unauthorized use of their IP. Showdown has been allowed to exist because, allegedly, they actively look the other way given it appeals to an audience the main games have no interest in servicing. I imagine with Pokken dead Close Combat would probably fill a similar niche and thus they wouldn't really care, but if they wanted to, they could shut both games down today.
It definitely is a side grade because the unpowered version is a pretty decent projectile but the powered up version has lead to some pretty good juggle combos so they're not even used for the same thing.

Oh damn, a pokemon fighting game? And that's MY NUMBER ONE BOY POLIWRATH?! Downloading right now.

I really want to see someone like Alpharad cover this game, it's such a sick game

Loppuny has some nice routes. I found some characters to be a bit limited.
