I am gonna give this dragon age a chance simply for the combat mechanics and changes compared to the predecessors. I tried The previous Dragon Ages and the combat is such a boring slog I couldn't play them. To be fare the romance side content is a driving factor in Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Baldur's Gate 3. Not sure if Bio Ware made romance that big a priority in the first two Baldur's Gate games.
@MandalorV7 i think canonically BG2's protag got together with Jahira? At least, ive heard that tidbit thrown around. But at the very least, i doubt its ever thrown in your face. Even in BG3 post-patch 5, if a companion wants to initiate something more but you turn them down, its never brought up again. And for some, they wont bring it up without you clicking on a specific dialogue option. The only one i know who works like that is Leazel, but it wouldnt surprise me if there were others who worked that way as well. And honestly, that's probably the best way to handle queer romances - have it there for those who want it and are actively looking for it, but also have it be easily missed or ignored for those who dont.
I say post-patch 5 as thats when i started playing and ive heard how a certain Wizard could come across as aggressively horny for the pc before it was fixed.

Leftism deranges people to such an extent that members of my own family have lumped me in with the stereotypical ultraconservative illiterate bigoted Trumptards simply because I am not ultra-leftist.
To be fair even the first Mass Effect had gay stuff in it, and it came out in 2007. Dragon Age Origins came out in 2009. However, the difference between then and now is that back then characters didn't really spell out their sexuality and throw at you the politics of the woke, blue haired freaks that made them and put them in the game. You interact with Kaiden and through that interaction you figure what his background is and who he is as a character. Then you can make a choice about how to further progress your story and how to interact with him. Same for Dragon Age. Lelliana swung both ways, but this information was derived from exploring the story of that character throughout your playthrough. It all felt natural and there was player agency.
Nowadays, the woke activists making these games fail to make these characters memorable, intriguing and compelling. They plaster pronoun bullshit on them, make them extremely obnoxious and they tell you they are gay or like toasters or that they identify as dry wall, stuff that has NO bearing on the story or setting, every five minutes. No subtlety, no good, layered story telling.
I fear Veilguard, being made by the "New BioWare" will be the same woke slop that most "AAAAAA" games are nowadays. I mean the game won't even let you control the AI in combat like previous titles....What, too complicated for these incompetent leftist hacks? It was a staple of the franchise.
Start hiring people that know how to make games with fun and engaging story and gameplay that have respect for the audience. Not activists that are there to fill quotas that can't put on their shoes if you switch them. Which is undoubtedly what BioWare is today - a shell of its former self with no talent left.

The way Sten reacts to a fenale player character is fun. "You seem like a woman." "Yeah" "But you are a warrior." "Yeah." "One of these things cannot be true."
So in that society, if a woman snuck off to be a fighter, even if she still thought of herself as a woman, the other Qunari probably wouldn't. They'd probably banish her, while using a male name on her. It could be a really interesting story. Why would a character deviate in such a society? What does that do to them? And so on. If this were the writers of the Origins era, this could be an interesting story, I should say. Today it'll be girl power nonsense where everyone slow claps when she declares herself a man.
They talk about taking care of a community as if was a garden, but what they proposed is more like turning a community into to a wasteland.
It's like the Sweet Baby speech thing, their view is that players shouldn't be allowed the choice of what games to get because it means that then they'll accept anything they want to shovel into it.

It is very easy to place blame on SBI, but the rot is within the entire industry and the rot that has taken hold. SBI would not exist if massive investment firms did not have a DEI investment condition built into the contract. The entire nature of the industry and it's financial structure needs to be changed. Remember FFXIV, where all the leaders were women, and no one cared, and no one tried to advertise it that way? All three countries you can join: ruled by women. The Scions? Led by a woman. The DLC leading up to Dawntrail? Zero rules her little realm of space. Dawntrail? Wuk Lamat wants to become the leader of her people.
But these are all very different characters with their own motivations and beliefs and ways that they got there, and the game doesn't try to sell itself based on women having positions of leadership. It also doesn't degrade its male characters in order to uplift the female characters. While some parts of the story turn out better than others, all of the characters get treated with respect. It never feels like they're making a character just to hit a check box. One of my favorite characters in the new part was basically a lizard person.
Different types of stories, different communities. Not everything needs to have women in charge of everything.
It also helps that it came out long before everyone was fed up by it. Won't happen the same right now, it will clearly be labeled as following some agenda. It's what happens when you push things too far.
The difference is that the creators and the characters in-game didn't emphasize this point in a barely-concealed "take that" preachy speech.

Ive been boycotting the gaming industry since 2012 when they started doing pre orders, not releasing physical copies, season passes, all that nonsense. Im glad to see gamers FINALLY boycotting the industry even if not for the same reasons I have. The industry is going to fall, so are movies and anything entertainment. What they fail to realize is that they cannot FORCE anyone to spend money anywhere and we arnt. If they wanna keep going this route the only truth then will be their companies will go bankrupt and no one will care. You can release shit products, thats okay, but when youre insulting your customers when they dont buy or watch your god awful product well now youve done fucked up. Its weird to be called a racist as well as a white supremacist as a black man...as well as being called a feminist when my mother USED to be a feminist 50 years ago when she fought for womens sports cause shes a marine and an athlete and when she turned 18 there was no professional sports for her and now feminists are literally destroying all her hard work.

Can we just drop the whole "woke vs unwoke" shit already? A game, film, song or any other creative media gets by based on its merits, of which Baldur's Gate 3 had many. A game isn't bad because it's "woke". A game is bad because of all the merits that are sacrificed when its creators only focus on making it woke. Nobody wants your stupid game if it doesn't let us escape from this bullshit. Nobody is going to buy an entertainment product that doesn't entertain, that doesn't let you forget for a short while that everything and everyone sucks. Who is going to pay money to hear fake people in a game or a movie say the same annoying things all the people you like least say all the time in real life? I don't know when the gaming industry became a non-profit, but it really sucks, and I'm telling you, indie games are going take over the industry because the big studios are non-profit political charities now making garbage that no one wants to play for people who don't play games in the first place.

I know most people tend to only bring up modern BioWare when I say modern, I mean, not post ME3, but old-school BioWare from the 90s to mid 2000s was fantastic to me arguably even better than what post late 2000’s to 2010’s was but do keep in mind I’m a sucker for Kotor the original BG and Jade Empire among others it’s a fucking shame that one of the all-time greatest studios the industry has ever had is basically just a fucking husk with a name that used to mean something

The games we see being released today are games that started development a few years ago when all this woke stuff was seen as a potentially profitable inclusion for businesses.
After the huge failures we've seen recently and the huge amount of money businesses have been losing due to these woke inclusions, there's no way a genuine business person who cares about making money is going to continue this nonsense.
I believe we're heading for a better state of gaming, but it will take some time for the games already in development to be released and for them to fail.
While we won't see the complete end of bad game practices, I am hopeful that a better time is coming.

I mean, they are playing a part but def not the cause. These budgets that surpass Hollywood movies that rely on record breaking smash successes to be profitable and the saturation of live services are definitely the root cause though. They’re focusing on large games with small profit margins as opposed to small games with larger margins. Basically, the AAA scene has ignored the basics of business economics and now the industry is fixing itself the hard way.
Any progressive, DEI, BRIDGE or whatever push on videogames, even if initially successful, always ends up victim of the same fact:
Video games cost the customer time and money to play.
Somehow their smugness and hubris always blinds them to the fact that you need to earn and maintain your customers trust and respect in order for them to want to invest time and money into your games. Last few years have shown us that no matter how much "brand loyalty" your marketing department says you have, you can only take your customer base for granted so many times, let alone outright disrespecting them, before they abandon you.
Inquisition is a downgrade from Origins in every single way and a downgrade from 2 in most ways. Veilguard looks worse. There is nothing about it that doesn't scream gay and lame.

As a dragon age fan, that Vanguard game looks extremely bad. It doesn't even resemble Dragon Age no more, it looks like Hogwarts Legacy 2 all the grit is gone. All the CRPG mechanics have been stripped away and I don't even think the party members have health bars. It doesn't even need to be woke or not it looks just bad in terms of gameplay alone. The only thing does Vanguard game done for me giving DA2 a second chance.

Companies need to wake up to their tactics, they don’t care about the stories and they use bully tactics. If you’re a pretty woman, they’ll use terms like “Tone her prettiness down because it’s not realistic.” “This game needs more LBGTQ characters in the main story or your game won’t sell.” These are their terms that they use

I wouldn't call BG3 woke, especially when a lot of what people might consider woke is on the custom character and the pronoun the game reads for all the NPCs to address the character. Especially when their biggest "got'cha" is the female origin characters (and Minthara) having more in their strength stat compared to the male origin characters (and how Minsc's stats are very different compared to what Ranger prioritize in 2e).
"Oh, but all the romance options are bi!" when all the origin characters are similar to any other RPG protag where you have romance options of either sex

Baldur's Gate 3 was woke there was body type A and body type B. There were so much diversity there wasn't even a conflict between the races. Start your research from these points and you'll either see where you're wrong or keep bashing your head against the wall, I couldn't care less. BG3 still deserves the success it has.

They have lost this entire generation of gaming. Like xbox losing the console war with the xbox one when everyone was creating their digital libraries, Woke games are losing the AAA space to indie titles and asian-made games while the entire world is in it's most political period in decades. Our convictions and values have hardened to reject anything woke, and arguably we are less accepting of just about everything the left peddles. So if AAA developers do not stop generating garbage, indie developers will grow exponentially as studios and begin to completely eclipse all sales of AAA studios.
If indie devs can get a whole decade of outselling them while studios like Bioware and Ubisoft only continue to double-down and go under as companies, we really will be in a fresh new market if companies like Larian Studios become the new Ubisoft. But hey, that's Free Market Capitalism at it's finest, but these AAA developers have been ahead of the curve for so long that they stopped designing games and instead chose to just follow their formulas or mold their already very successful titles into those formulas. Looking at you, Assassins Creed, only a beloved franchise so long as you ignore the last 3 games now 4 games that were turned into microtransaction riddled time wasters.
And those formulas are LOSING MILLIONS. Gone is the time when companies just followed the live service model and printed money, as gamers have already voted with their wallets and yet these companies only continue to release the same tired, old thing. Just look at Sony's Jim Ryan calling for 12 Live service games and their next one, Concord, was literally ratio'd into oblivion.

The activist weirdos always had the intention of driving those with opposing views out of the industry whether that be co-workers or fans. I've seen this happen in hobby after hobby from tabletop games to comics and now pushing it in games and anime. First you need to make the hobby more inclusive which few would have a problem with then you have the activists move into positions of 'power' whether this be in companies or hobby group leadership. Then the activists decide more changes are needed to make the hobby more 'suitable' for the groups they want to pander to. Then they demand that those who oppose them leave the hobby and community that 'they' had created. Then it fails when we leave and set up new communities and they demand to be part of those communities.

In my opinion, BG3 isn't woke as hell. It's slightly woke, but the "identity" of the player character is entirely up to the player. The game never forces you to be anything you don't want to be.
Yeah. And there are both male and female characters in leadership roles that have levels of competence. Shadowheart, La'zel, Karlach are female characters that are strong, yet have deeper emotional levels to them.

BG3 doesnt count as a woke game simply because we chose what we wanted to do. And they can claim Astarion all they want, but in my opinion he comes off similar to Dion Lesage in FF16 in terms of an acceptable gay character. Yes Astarion is gay, but he would still be the same character even if he wasn't gay. He's just quirky and interesting. His plotline isnt about being gay it's about being a piece in the puzzle of an ascension ritual of an elder vampire, damn if that wasn't my favorite plotline in the game besides the main plot. Basically how you write a gay character, is to make sure that if you removed them being gay, you still have the exact same character left over.
The reason why BG3 is popular is because it is a fun CRPG that you can play solo or with others, with fun gameplay and a fun story to go through. Really, the only "gotcha" they have with it is that the player can romance whoever they want, and IMO, as a TTRPG player, that is an inside joke that some players just like seducing NPCs left and right. Identity politics isn't the reason.
While I do agree that sometimes it's better to have an NPC with preferences, BG3 was truly a genuine experience. Hell, what good would be bards if they couldn't seduce the very doors and walls wherever they went?
This game is going to be one of the wokiest games ever created. Everything they've released and said has already shown us that.
This isn't really Bioware anymore. It hasn't been in over a decade. All the people who made the good games you remember have long been gone and replaced with people selected by EA. It's just EA wearing a Bioware skinsuit. I don't think I need to try this game to know if it's bad. And I don't have to. I'll just wait until after a couple of RUclipsrs have tried it and put up reviews.
