The Square Enix situation starts to make sense when you find out that it all started because of criticism of Wuk Lamat's English VA (who is trans) in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. He claimed people threatened to kill him and that all the people messaging him are sending death threats and not meaningful criticism. He went on a blocking spree on Twitter and retreated to bksy when people asked him to out these people sending threats. He never did and went crying to Papa Square that the mean old customers didn't like his poor imitation of a female voice or his line delivery. Edit: Good. You mentioned it.
You might be giving that hack too much power/credit. He's just a convenient excuse/scapegoat. I assume the real reason is because a lot of their recent releases have been flopping and people have been very vocal as to why they're flopping and the executives and higher ups don't like that because their shareholders can see it. And probably a lot of gaslighting from their American branch led to this.
Force them to define their terms and not hide behind these weasel words. The fact that customers criticized a decision you made does not automatically turn it into "harassment."
While threats of actual violence should never be issued by anyone (unless tour challenging them to a match like boxing, martial arts etc) , the rest is just all kinds of no and goodbye to your business
And a side note the sexual harassment part can and will get used in such a loose and broad way you'll get the biggest headache thinking of how easily they'll claim it and you'll set a record for the biggest facepalm in history Which of course I mean saying something online and such.
Gentle reminder that policies are just that: an arbitrary set of rules that only applies to the internal workings of a company. These are not legally liable nor actionable beyond the limits of what's already prescribed by law. Squeenix is out of their league with that shizz.
Their employees in California will use this to chill legitimate criticism. They already have lawful protections against criminal trespass, harassment, and violence since those things are a matter of actual law and not SQEX policy.

Just the idea that they may consider "discontinuation of service" (i.e. revoke game licenses) for providing feedback or taking part in online discussions is all I need to view SE products as "risky purchases" and "volatile services." Seriously, who would willingly pay to have to submit to social media guidelines in order to "deserve" getting/keeping what was payed for? Criticism will rapidly become the least of their concerns, especially if they start revoking licenses. People don't tend to tolerate a corporation openly stealing from them under guise of policies.

This kind of crap is what turns people off of companies. Ngl, if it weren't for the fact I am playing with friends, I would seriously consider cancelling my FFXIV sub. I don't get how they thought this was a good idea. And did this come from the Japanese side? Or the American department? Cus that would make a difference. If the latter, I hope the main company comes out against it, and the sooner the better. Also it doesn't matter if Japanese law permits it. US law doesn't. The only reason this is even remotely enforceable is because average people can't fight against a company that size in court, not because of any actual legality under US law.
Sadly I do believe this policy was greenlit by the Japanese side of Square-Enix as SEGA enacted a similar policy when westerners started complaining about censorship and localization on there main Japanese X account after they shared a Japan Times article that was written in english. Apparently this is happening in business across Japan and has support from the Japanese government. Companies in Japan are becoming more hostile to consumers in response to unsatisfied customers and the government has given them the tools to go after customers they find to be a nuance.
Dishonest take, there's been a rise in kasuhara in Japan recently from both locals and foreigners, it's why the government enacted the new policies regarding this in general. I mean just recently an English VA got sent public and private death threats, and even doxxed, for their role in the latest expansion of FFXIV. I am pretty sure that's not honest criticism. When Squenix actually goes after honest criticism then we can talk.

If Ten-Cent designs graphic software for the Chinese military, they are a military supplier. It is the policy of all sane governments not to give financial support to companies supporting the militaries of Hostile powers. This is just common sense. As Ten-Cent noted, this only affects US Military procurement (which, yes, would include any Ten-Cent games for military bases' rec centers). Remember that it Civil-Military fusion is the official policy of the Chinese Communist Party (aka the Chinese Government) and therefore all Chinese companies are REQUIRED to assist the military objectives of the Chinese military. 2. Key Legal Issues in Your Case
Policy Enforcement: If Square Enix enforces a ban or denies service because of your refusal to comply with compelled speech, this could be seen as discriminatory and coercive.
Monetary Loss: If your financial investment in their services (e.g., purchasing games or subscriptions) is forfeit due to this policy, it may constitute unfair treatment under consumer protection laws.
Human Rights: If you are being treated unfairly because of your religious beliefs, you have grounds to file a complaint with the appropriate human rights tribunal.
Yep!
This is how abuse of censorship starts.
Censorship: the art of the slippery slope. Once it exists, it will inevitably multiply like a virus.
They were always trigger-happy about censorships, even in the SquareSoft era.
I will honestly not be affected by tencent going away. Their existence has always rubbed me the wrong way since their conception.
Don't forget Yoshi P defended they/them/it. I knew SE's cash cow was a fluke.
Lamat is just the equivalent of Poochie. The English VA is just icing on the shit cake. Even Japanese players hated Lamat due to shit writing.
If people can't take criticism and they have to hide behind lawyers, then the state of gaming going forward is genuinely broken
Piracy is a moral good now.

Force them to define their terms and not hide behind these weasel words. The fact that customers criticized a decision you made does not automatically turn it into "harassment."
and then they sue you for questioning it, which constitutes "harassment" of them... the perfect REEEEE-fence.
While threats of actual violence should never be issued by anyone (unless tour challenging them to a match like boxing, martial arts etc) , the rest is just all kinds of no and goodbye to your business
And a side note the sexual harassment part can and will get used in such a loose and broad way you'll get the biggest headache thinking of how easily they'll claim it and you'll set a record for the biggest facepalm in history
Which of course I mean saying something online and such.

You see they want to deplatform you if you step out of line. As in all accounts across the board. Erase you as it will. They did it to Alex, they are trying to do it to other heavy conservatives as they block and Sh ban them.
So its only clockwork that a company that drinks the DEI cool aid will try the same thing. Except they do not own steam and enforcing a ban on product will be hard to do. But I am sure they will do something like individual update to brick your game.
Especially if they don't refund you after said ban.
