Bonus points for the Betty Boo reference! Rather liked Alison Clarkson in my teen years... Had a huge Smash Hits poster of her on my bedroom wall. Not as great as Kylie though... :)
Good digestible stuff. My buddies and I are too loose with airmanship basics. Yeah, we land without incident, but there's no consistency. A little consistency could go a long way to make our DCS time better.
Great video, thanks, Tim ! Currently chomping at the bit learning the F35B in MSFS 2020, having some fun in VR and flat screen with this but I never seemed to be able to do a quality landing, either on a land runway or a carrier. Watched this video, took some proper notes and will put your info to the test later. Ex RAF myself ( Tac Comms Wing late 80s ) , thanks for your service and for being you, awesome stuff ! Daz, Leicester.
crazy having a real UK fighter pilot showing us this lol !! 5 to 6 years ago this would have been a dream, I wonder if this guy was in VR would he be looking for G's on accident lol
When using the sim, does it bring back memories for you, when you used to fly in the RAF. Enjoy your channel, and also use DCS I might come and join you l to have the F18 .
Sure it does, yes - and I make my school as realistic for my students as I possibly can. I feel that DCS far outweighs the sims that I ever flew in the RAF especially with what I can do with the game now - grab an F5 or F18 and come join the team!
Hi Tim. I typed my first comment (about the microphone) before I watched the video. Now I have, here are a few suggestions for these types of videos. There are three things going on with your commentary. 1) Narration 2) FJP Hornet 3) Approach/ATC The Narration (1) doesn't require any input. However for (2) and (3), they're embedded with (1), so it's hard to distinguish. What would *greatly* help out is if, when (2) is talking, you display the text in the top left using say blue font stating "FJP: " and then when you're playing the role of Approach/ATC, i.e., (3), the message text of what you're saying in the top right with "Approach or ATC: ". These text should appear at the same time as when you're talking so we can follow and distinguish between your Narration/guidance and Comms. Thanks for your videos. Will send you a few pennies once I secure a forthcoming contract.
I'm a tad surprised that you're not using the Tobii eyetracker,a bit pricey but no more head gear and wires dangling (I use bluetooth cans).............
Hi Tim. I checked your specifications and I can't find the name of the microphone. I've been searching for something similar because it seems ideal when flying sims with VR. Thanks in advance.
Never fails to amaze me how you guys carry out these manoeuvres. I love this sort of stuff , Do you not miss this fast jet life , or would the recent politics have been too much ?
What headset and track IR do you use? i'm in need of some kind of light head mount i don't like big head sets and i could use some head tracker so i'm opened for sugestions.
One thing I've always wondered is why don't fighter jets do an ILS landing? I mean you take off from your departure but you don't know your arrival or approach after a mission, but once you get your destination confirmed you know the airfield... So you know the frequency of an ILS. Approach, AT, Auto landing...job done.
We do, it's just a run in and break or straight in is easier as they are visual approaches and if we do an ILS, it's because we are in poor weather and they are normally monitored by someone in air traffic which takes up their time.
@@FastJetPerformance I never used to like the straight-in if there was traffic in the circuit. We always seemed to end up extending circuit traffic downwind to fit in behind (because they never wanted to go around at the end of the downwind leg!). Run & break was great though :D
OK, you are quite good. Me, I'm not good. But 5:40 onwards I'll just land the Buccaneer my way. ruclips.net/video/CeRsgOzaGws/видео.html All these twiddling dials and 12 miles out. No!
I'd hand back all my other modules to have the Buccaneer in DCS. I was on a ship, passing through the Straits of Gibraltar, as a kid, the Buccs buzzed the ship several times and I was hooked. Amazing pieces of kit. ruclips.net/video/lteL18wd15Y/видео.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

'It shouldn't be a massive drama, guys'
It's not anymore. Thanks.
Can you do some more of these? This format is great.
Thank you, Dave - I will try.
I really enjoy you procedural videos, bonus is the correct coms. Thanks Tim!

No zero about piloting & understood everything. Amazing how these vets compact years into minutes for our benefit.

Nice vid. Glad to see you focus more on this stuff again, but maybe that's just me and not judging. You do you, great work, as always.

Look forward to the overhead break lesson ;)
Nicely explained, thanks
Tim, you make that look so easy.
Smoother than the lads at Waddington this week fam 😂
Nice! But I would love a tutorial about landing with a strong crosswind
My older brother was obsessed with Betty Boo so sadly greatful to be in the 5 % 😉
Banging vid Tim! Are the profile and approach speeds the same for the F-5E SIA?
Numbers are your friend. Followed it to a tea ☕

Hi Tim, @ 9:50 what does “toes clear” mean? Is it to check you’re not leaning on the brakes before touchdown?
Yes, exactly that - it prevents a blown tyre on landing.
Thank you!
There was an ad on first clicking that just days rated M for mature
Blimey, FJP dropping some C bombs or something? 😳😁

landing is inevitable, walking away from it is optional
Nice work Mr Davies! fly FJP 👍

Another excellent video. Any chance of linking to the video you said you had on using the E-bar?
I don't think I can post a link here but in RUclips search 'fast jet performance f-18 trim'
@@FastJetPerformance found it, thanks!

Because Fighter Pilots don't need instrument assistance for a visual approach - they learn how to fly properly...
What’s FJP?
Fast Jet Performance - I just use 'FJP' as a callsign in these vids.

Meanwhile actual Qataris are under a foot of snow at Leeming this morning. 😂
That made me laugh - at least the flying training system is doing OK, lol
Airforce landing.
the cool thing about being in VR is you don't have to worry about anything but speed and you just land it.
What's "put the thing on the thing mean"? Lol
Put the velocity vector on the runway and that's where the jet will end up 👍
You made air traffic sound too punchy - ruined the immersion for me
