I come from the "poor side" of the family. I remember having family members talking like this as I was coming up. It gave me nothing but motivation to be better because if they could why not me; but it made many of my other family members feel like it was a slight to them. I hated it when they made my side of the fam feel bad for having less but now that I'm older I realize some of my family members just refuse to do better and thus are more comfortable in 'struggle' mode which makes me feel like I need to keep any of my wins or successes to myself so that I don't become the "other side" of the family that makes them feel bad for having less😔

They’re usually unfairly seen as a bragger too when people ask about their life. They have to usually keep things private to help others to not feel bad about their lives, however listen to everyone else freely share their’s.
