Marcelo for a brief time was a student of Terere before he went to Fabio Gurgel. Marcelo was an instructor at Terere and Leo Vieira! Training with Terere and Leo every day! Damn right he was going to become a Legend. However, Terere was one of the most spectacular Jiu-Jitsu players of the 2000's Terere was ranked as one of the top ten players of his era! And he knew Marcelo's game from rolling with him at his academy. Beating Marcelo twice in a row was no fluke, that's Fernando "Terere" Augusto De Silva! A legend among legends!
I just commented about how it seems like Terere must study Marcelo's film extensively cuz he seems to counter his signature moves perfectly. This explains it. ty

@@t-bone7988 People experiment and some can handle it and some can't! Terere lost that battle! Terere was supposed to give Andre Galvao his black belt but was not available so Andre was given permission to have his first teacher give him the belt, however, Galvao is a Fernando Terere student him and Ruben Charles Maciel a 5 time BJJ World Champion. Maciel received his black belt from Terere!

thing is a lot of people talk like who is this terere ...basically he is one of the best jiu jitsu greats that ever graced the planet..the guy was natural, fast and proper hard core jiu jitsu...he even had roger in a very bad spot when he nearly took rogers back properly.

I had never even heard of Terrere when i found this vid. I was looking for Marcelo Garcia videos and was like "oh great i can see how he schools this scrub"...boy was I surprised!!
Terere is a product of Alliance! Same school as Marcelo, Leo, and Cumprido. Terere is the professor of Andre Galvao and Ruben "Cobrihna" Charles both are multiple world champions in both Gi and no Gi Competition. Marcelo and Terere have fought twice with Terere besting Marcelo on both outings

Bjjscout brought me here. Also, that's was very interesting that MG used his single-leg X to slow down Terere's agility-based passing style. I couldn't see how MG lost it but as soon as he did, Terere long-stepped to side control, just like Scout predicted. Badass match all the same.

Necro, but Terere locked in a far side cradle, straight out of wrestling. The cradle forced Marcelo's hips and face to Terere's right, while also isolating Marcelo's right leg. Once the cradle was locked in, it was game over. Beautiful pass

Terre could have been the greatest Jiu-jitsu Competitor of all time if he hadn't developed a cocaine dependency causing a schizophrenic lapse. He and leo vieira are the inventors of the modern passing style.

Ranked in the top 5 along with names like Royler Gracie and Saulo Rieberio......check out Terere no-gi videos. Cat Quick and with no Mercy! From Alliance with the original Jacare Calvacanti and Leo Vieira, Comprido , Fabio Gurgel(Marcelo Garcia's instructor) All those boys from the Alliance association could put some hurt on you.

Just read the biography of Fernando Augusto and so unfortunate that his BJJ career was abruptly cut short by schizophrenia. Hopefully he is managing and coping with it and living a happy life.
As for Marcelo Garcia, it is inspiring to see that our heroes did not always have it easy but they just put their losses behind them and kept moving forward.
