MY Favorite Way to relax...is to put one of your NES Videos and just Listen 👂 Thanks I Really Enjoy your Channel ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👀
My parents seldomly bought us games, but I remember begging my mom for Bart vs. The Space Mutants when I was probably 7 years old. I will never forget how excited I was to bring it home and then how sad I was when I couldn’t get past the first level. I tried so hard but I never made it past the first level. It was such a bummer, what in the world were they thinking releasing that game.
Def hard, but not 1st level hard
Don't think I never completed it
Much like TMNT
Same but i couldnt get past the 2nd level.
I got this game as a kid too, same with Bart vs the World. I stubbornly learned the game to eventually beat both. The jump system took me a very long time to master
That game sucked
exact same experience!
13 years old. Obsessed with Adventure Island 🏝, StarTropics, the Link to the Past and good ole Double Dragon
That power blade Nintendo power cover just brought back memories
I've got that particular issue of NP if anyone is interested. I used to have quite a few, sold them, but this issue was lost at the time. It's yours or anyone elses that wants it.
Funnily enough, I've been playing Battletoads on the NES again lately! Low key one of my personal favorites. Once you know the patterns, you can cruise through the game and have a blast! Great video as always, we love your content.
Tecmo Bowl was a massive hit, if you played with Bo Jackson you were basically invincible.
The cat's name In Tiny Toons is Furball.
Enjoy your visit to milwaukee this weekend! Look forward to saying hi!
91 was probably my favorite year on the NES (88 being a close second). So many good games came out, the developers really had a handle on what the NES could do and were still doing some experiments.
Princess tomato has one of the most nightmare inducing scenes in it with what i remember to be maybe an Orange smiling or something
Just wait until you fight Bananda in Chapter 6; the aftermath is just plain gruesome when you really think about it.
@@MotherKojiro I found it, when I saw it I thought to myself it looks like an orange winking at you from the edge of a glass shower door, but thought there is no way an orange is taking a shower, but in the game it is an orange taking a shower an creepily winking at you from the edge of the shower door lol
Kabuki Quantum Fighter is one of my favorite NES games ever. It ends on a hint of a sequel but never got one, which is a huge shame.
Furball was the Tiny Toons cat and I don't remember what he did in the game.
Furball could latch onto & climb walls. 😊
Cool games. By 91 I was in college, my roomate had a Tandy (Radio Shack) computer. All we did was party and play Civilization
Where’s Waldo sucks my balls. There is no appeal to that game. I’m traumatized because my parents only bought me one game per year as a kid. In 1991, I chose Where’s Waldo for NES. That game robbed me of a year of video games as a child.
That game prepared a generation to be skeptical of “cash grabs.” 😂
You're a radio station DJ? (Or were) man....I job shadowed for that in 6th grade and got to be on the radio live for a segment, then for my senior year we had to job shadow and I did so at another radio station, super fun, I would have had a great time if I could have ended up doing that even just part time! 😁
Still am :)
I don't think I ever got past the first level of _Bart vs. the Space Mutants_ when I rented it (a few times) but I didn't dislike it. I'm more of a "The journey, not the destination." gamer; as long as I'm having fun, I could give a damn, and I was having fun. 🤷♂ I remember some scenes in _Uninvited_ giving me nightmares as a kid, when I played it on the Macintosh in the '80s. 😬 So, when I saw it had come out for the NES, I was like "Hahaha, nope!" 🤣
Same as a kid never got past it either I need to play it again
Thank you for this series. It has been a wonderful ride through the years. The good, the bad, and the mediocre. It's wonderful to give everything a spotlight.
Love Kabuki Quantum Fighter! Tough Game but great to play and a Killer Soundtrack.
I'm known for 3 things, video game related. 3DO. Ice Cold Beer. Where's Waldo (NES). And that's okay.
Just a reminder, Where's Waldo on NES is a great party game.
Ah double dragon 3, one of the pains of my existence as kid. I couldn't beat it without the game genie. Finally did back in 2019. 😂😂😂
same. There was one jump over a broken bridge or something where I'd fail every time.
@@JohnRiggs i know exactly what spot you are talking about.
That was the game where the 3rd time was the charm.... a BAD-luck charm.
I've always enjoyed DD3, great music, good graphics, choice of characters later on, nice ending sequence... It was one of my ten NES games as a kid so I persevered and beat it. The final stage in Egypt makes you work, no doubt about it, but I loved the variation of the USA theme in the ending which always made it worthwhile.
@@davidclark8260 it's definitely one of my favorite games,
Axiom Verge is like modern Kabuki Quantum Fighter. Wondering how many people in the 90s knew what a Kabuki is in the west.
I played and preferred the famicom version of Shatterhand, Super Rescue Solbrain (Tokkyū Shirei Solbrain), arguably the best game on the system and the music is phenomenal.
I grew up in the Rockies skiing/snowboarding every week and the #1 bit of advice I can give someone if they just wanna have a fun time on the mountain, go with SKIING not snowboarding, snowboarding is so much harder IMO
The greatest game in the history of the NES for my money just dropped in the late summer of 1991 and I had NO IDEA it was even a thing until I saw it in the video store up the street from my house. Tecmo Super Bowl was for me what the Zoltar machine was for Josh Baskin in Big. I rented it and it was like a time warp. No sports game was that advanced at that point. Nothing was even close. Baseball Stars was the only one in the same stratosphere and it didn't have real MLB players or teams. To have 11 on 11 gameplay, something that was RARE for any football game to that point, but then starters, offensive backups, playbooks you could edit, reverses/end arounds, men in motion, bootlegs, and play action passes...MADDEN didn't have these things for years that played as smoothly as they did on TSB. No list of GOAT NES games is valid without this game. You didn't even have to like football or sports to appreciate it, which is the hallmark of a great sports game. I know you don't like sports games Riggs, but you did this game a real disservice. It's on the short list of apex games for the NES IMHO.
I prefer the Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, and Rescue Rangers games and shows to TaleSpin, but you do you, John.
Darkwing Duck was the king! It's only 2nd place to Gargoyles IYAM.
Man your videos are the best! I really find the reviews informative and entertaining, and also gives me ideas for games I should add to my collection 😁
Ok im actually interested in that air freshener lol
The speedrunner ShesChardcore is the only person that has ever played Where's Waldo
1991 was one of the greatest years in history. Music, movies, cartoons, games. In literally every way. I may be bias but...I'm also right!
That happens every couple of years. 1987, 1991, 1994, 1999... it's wild to think about!
Put the lotion in the basket!!😂😂😂 That dude was psycho!! Btw Roxette was awesome! Fading Like a Flower is up there with Must Have Been Love for awesome power ballads. There was so much that came out that year: including the SNES and the movie T2: Judgment Day. I also remember watching those same cartoons that you did that year, along with Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Good times!!😊
" Those are arrows" Sure they are Mr Cereal Man.
I do not think I had even one of these games as a kid. I did play plenty of Tecmo Super Bowl at friends' houses, and I remember at least one friend had Bart vs. the Space Mutants.
Me, my brother, my dad, and my stepmom all played Pirates.
I have today off work, and this is making it even better. 😊
The Beetlejuice game came out way too late. The movie came out in 1988 and the game came out in 1991.
Power Blade is my go-to for "I bet you havent played X". Its pretty good!
Love your videos. Thanks!
I can only imagine being a kid back in 1991 and using their hard earned money to buy Bart VS The Space Mutants!
“I saved up two month’s worth of allowance for Bart VS The Space Mutants and now I got it!! This is gonna be so cool!! (Plays the game after buying it.) D’OH!!!!!!!”
Furrball. Also, those Simpsons games are pure poison.
Yeah, TaleSpin was my favorite cartoon to watch back then too. Never played the video game, though. Air boarding behind an airplane was a great concept!
The main characters walk in Treasure Master is probably the most confident walk I’ve ever seen from a video game character
My friends oldest brother bought him Lone Ranger for the NES when it came out because he grew up watching it. So i played it when it came out in 1991. Put in many hours on Wolverine, Whop'em, & Shatter Hand. i vagally remember playing Kabuki Quantum Fighter going to have to see if i own it or not. Also love Taito games not sure how Power Blade slipped by me.
So I'm going to have to hunt down a few new games for my NES & bring back 1991 to my house! Thanks for the NES Memories! Love these year of series!
Little Mermaid for the NES is a true hidden gem.
Battletoads pause music is the best. Used to love hitting pausing and just enjoying it
Furball I believe was the cat's name on Tiny Toons Mr Riggs
the NES will forever be my favorite console! it has a special place in my heart and i have many great childhood memories playing NES games. those were good times. i still play NES today and still buy NES games today as well as support new ones on places like kickstarter.
Power Blade!!! Worth it just for the music alone. The soundtrack is the best. So many amazing stage themes too ❤
Looking forward to _"MORE_ NES Games of 199X"!!
1991 the SNES is here in America the NES was still good though
I loved my NES and didn't want to stop playing it when I got my SNES. I played Darkwing, Kirby, and I wanted to play Mega Man 6 really bad... but by 1994, the NES games were taken off the shelves at the video stores 😞
Just want to mention John, you’re channel is becoming my most favorite, always improving, never disappointing, and always delivering the goods. Thank you for all you do my friend 👍👍🤘🤘
“Shadowgate for vegans” 😂😂 omg John, that’s hilarious!
I just picked up Ultimate Qix on the Genesis. Little different but still fun
Kabuki Quantum Fighter I remember seeing it on Nickelodeon arcade when I was a kid. 😀👍🎮
Some how ,some way my mom picked out and bought my brother and I shatterhand and it honestly is one of the best games on the NES. Cheers to mom for being a badass!
I’d love to see Battletoads brought back. Game was hard but it was really fun.
The subtle not so subtle marketing in this video is a bit much, but still enjoyable content as usual.
I wouldn't like the one with pineapple, I'm allergic. I can't be near it.
17:47-17:51 The cat from Tiny Toon Adventures is named Furball.
Whomp 'Em was actually a game based on DragonBall in Japan, I think.
this video is exactly why i love watching your videos, man. i never get tired of hearing the Princess Tomato story, and i would've never think to play Whomp 'Em until i saw this. keep it up!
on princess tomato, yeah sounds like my story with my wife! (though she got me clash at demonhead) picked it up off amazon and I had it in the collection for years before we got married.
I remember eating Prince of Thieves cereal. Loved the movie, cereal.. not so much 😂
Great upload Riggs👍
They had a Prince of Theives cereal??? Did they have that for Dances with Wolves, too??
@@chrisrj9871 limited edition Water World 😅
@@eversosleight - Yeah I've had Tiny Toons cereal, TMNT cereal, Nintendo cereal naturally!... Prince of Thieves cereal is a strange idea to me as an 11-yo of 1991!
Loving the new decals for your video 😊
There were some really nice Japan-exclusives as well.
Non-RPGs: Wai Wai World 2, Cocoron, Doki Doki Yuuenchi, Crisis Force, Over Horizon, Choujin Sentai Jetman, Ninja Jajamaru - Ginga Daisakusen, Bananan Ouji Daibouken.
RPGs: Juubei Quest, Shadow Brain, Lagrange Point, Tenchi o Kurau 2, Metal Max, Chaos World, Radia Senki, Famicom Jump 2.
Got my snes the Xmas of 91 so this was my last year that I cared about nes games 😂I was so fickle back then as soon as something new came out what had seemed like ancient history
1991!🤔 At that time I was studying and working and bought most of those NES games. But I kept seeing the reviews in magazines of the Neo Geo but couldn't afford it.😭 Like never in the 90s!😢 Neat list of games good showing and cool video John!👉🙂👈
You and AVGN should have a Battle Toads pause music dance off.
The fact that Bart vs. The Space Mutants was your low risk collateral is probably the most value Bart Vs. The Space mutants has ever had. I used Mega Man X in a trade, and had to appeal to the kid's Grandmother to get it back. He refused, his parents said big deal, but his grandma THUMPED HIM ONE. And I got X back. He had traded mutant apocalypse and I really didn't care for it.
Adventure Island 2 defeats the idea that Mario couldn't ride Yoshi on the NES
Furball was the cats name
This kind of vídeo is so nice to watch. Thank you very much!
Never beat bill and ted. Might have to give It another try.
I would agree Tiny Toons NES would have to be in top 5 best games of all time
lil mermaid on the NES RULED
Great video ! Love all your awesome videos !!!
You’r not wrong about Tiny Toons.
Ninja Ryukenden 3 (better than gaiden 3) is absolutely a top 5 famicom game.
Furrball was the name of the blue cat from Tiny Toon Adventures.
You... were a Radio 📻 DJ... That is cool Man...😂
John - I'd love to see a list of your top "plugthrough" NES games, especially your views on 1991's The Fantastic Advetures of Dizzy.
adventure island 2 was a rental for me, but it absolutely solidified my love of video games
I have Pirates Gold on my 386. I should look into it, didn't know it was good.
You know, I always wanted to try Where’s Waldo, but I could never find it?!?
I absolutely love these videos❤
Have Qix, Double Dragon III, Ski or Die, Bart Simpson and Space Mutants, Uninvited, Bill & Ted’s (different), Smash T.V., Pirates (with 4 different covers) and Barbie (different) all on Commodore 64.
HECK YEAH!!! Kabuki Quantum Fighter is one of my favorite games on the NES, its so great to see some more people giving that game the love that it deserves!
Power Blade was originally suppose to be a Mega Man spinoff called Power Mission
I always thought the story of Kabuki Quantum Fighter was you were a military computer hacker fighting a virus in Earth's main defense computer. And for some reason his residual self image took the form of a Kabuki dancing ancestor inside the program
Chip and Dale Rescue Ranger was my favorite of the Disney afternoon block and its games were great but Tailspin was my second favorite.
I like Bart vs the Space Mutants and IMO its much better then Bart vs the World
I got Bart vs the Space mutants for my birthday, very hard game I still haven't beatin it, I should do that soon
Super cool :)) 💎
In Timy Toons the cats name was furball
I just got the random 3 air freshener. Send me something good, Riggs 😊
This is way out there but I would like to see you review AD&D Treasure of Tarmin for the old Intellivision
Some of the best releases came between 91 and 94. 🔥
Also never heard Qix called Kix before... 😅
There was a poster for the arcade version of Qix that said (pronounced Kicks) on the poster. Maybe it was an ad flyer, I don't remember. There's no U so there's no 'Quicks' sound.
Furball the cat
Jeez, spoiler warning for those of us still looking for waldo!
Qix - qid tested, mother approved.
Not gonna lie. I’ve always had a soft spot for Bart vs. The Space Mutants.
Prince in 1991 was perfect 4 me
U R king of youtube videos for gaming
The cat was Sylvester!
