If the song (if I'm not with you) started with the chorus lines using an acoustic guitar, then explodes with all the instruments, it would easily be an anime opening.
Another bangin' week. "Severed Soul" was my favourite this week (and I'm not usually a prog guy). "If I'm Not With You" (obviously), "Golden Times" and "Villain Master" were all pretty good as well. Tough job voting this month... a good problem to have. =D
From what I can gather(love these videos), the people in this contest that wrote the better songs seem to be inspired by artists that write simple and catchy songs. The worse songs(the riffs salads) all seem to be written by people inspired by idk Dream Theater and Tool. Those two bands can write great songs because even though they're very technical, all the members are inspired by the great rock songs of the 60s and 70s. It's the same problem with Prog Rock nowadays, the 70s prog rock bands were inspired by The Beatles so they still kept the songwriting intact. After that, every single Prog Rock band was influenced by those 70s prog rock bands so the songwriting suffered.
Severed soul and Gunk were my favourites this week. Don't normally like instrumetal but Severed Soul really pushed my buttons. I'm a Static X fan, and like that sort of industrial nu metal so Gunk was right up my street. If that song had a big chorus it would be an absolute ripper.
“If I’m not with you” felt like if Unwritten Law and Real Kids had a baby and I’m 100% here for it. It made this old school punk rocker happy as a clam! Kind of reminded me of a pop punk band I played with in the mid 2000s. I miss those days.
Lol I like the pop punk stylings of NVTL. I’d redo the solo guitar intro , timing timing, but the song slays all the putrid unimaginative unintelligible crap core metal that everyone else seems to persist with!
Severed Soul sounded like a Devon Townsend song without 90,000 clones of Devon Townsend singing along. I'd definitely listen to the next song on that record.
That instrumental was INSANE, very cool. The Gunk song had some potential but I felt the vocals very much left a lot to be desired. The instrumental also never "opened up" as you said, to allow us to breathe for a moment or change it up at all. That being said, still very interesting!
Oh boy, I already thought you had forgotten my song or that it got lost 😅 Happy you dig it and also I hope y'all thought it was funny. Stay nostalgic and btw, my hairline starts to fade as well - that was also a bit of inspiration for the tune 🙃🥲
Fabian your song is amazing. Best song I heard from all the seasons of the contest. I hope you release it on Spotify so I can jam it more. Good luck to you.
LAWDY LAWDY, what do i pick?! I thought it was hard LAST week! If you want proof the contest is working on producing better songs, then you got it for sure! I can only wonder if they also bought the course! Id bet they did.
Thanks for your… kind words? Haha MySpace era was a huge influence tbh. And yes I KNOW MY VOCAL MIX IS TRASH. It is still at demo stage (besides saying master)
Magnetic Cosmos had it's meh, but dude had some solid Queensryche-esque vocals.(and also felt like he was trying to write all of operation mindcrime but in space)
I don't understand why you let distrokid sponsor you but when its published with distrokid its disqualified. could you please explain the logic in that? ps love the content.
What, you don't carry a ladder to climb into your friends' windows? Or are you trying to say you honestly never had an alligator in a kiddy pool in your bedroom when you were a kid?
"That's a banger" - what?! My eyes have rolled back into limits of sarcastic expression. That and everything I've heard presented here is soupy hot garbage.
I rest my case about Trey and liking Pop music...Claims people write dated music but then gets hype for a pop punk song that would of been popular 20 years ago...Fucking priceless....
Just accept that most metal today and riff salads in general suck and no-one other than guitarists like that stuff. Write good songs regardless of genre.

"Golden Times" all day long. That was a great tune. Give em both prizes.
“If I’m not with you” was the best this week, hands down.
I unironiclly want to listen to "if I'm not with you" now
I was imagining Devin Townsend doing vocals on that 'Severed Soul' track. Great work by the artist
Had to vote Golden times, that hit me right in the feels lol
I see what you did there with the video title 😂😂😂 shoutout to the Now That’s What I Call Music compilations from the 90’s and 00’s
this guy gets it
I really like that Trey has committed to using the gun instead of the beater.

nah dude, Dream Theater and Tool inspired my dad. The riff salad kids of today are inspired by Periphery and Animals As Leaders

Gunk was hittin those early Slipknot vibes for me.
@@sickjoe9174 Yeah, I can totally see that too.
Severed soul fux
When I want a giggle I imagine a young Geddy/Alex/Neil sending in "Xanadu" and Trey hearing "For I have dined on Honey Dew"
Hiiiiii!!! Thanks for your feedback! Glad you liked the jam. :)
I've never listened to a song in these contests more than once....until now. I am on my third spin of "If I'm Not With You".

IF IM NOT WITH YOU!!!!!! #1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 This week. HELL YA!! Listened to it 5 times. REAL MUSIC!!!!
If I'm not with you, is a fuckin banger as well! Holy!
The first entry, HOLY!! Huge silverstein vibes! Banger!
I feel like we’re witnessing a constant battle between Music School Trey and Top 40 Power Hour Trey for control of Kenneth’s soul.

"If im not with you" reminded me heavily of old school english anime openings from things like yugioh and shit
i seriously snortled my soup all over the place on those arpeggios, but by the ending, clean up was vibing, well done... TurpsyQ
Pop punk about love: 👎
Pop punk that makes you cry: 👍

do you remember when you sent in your song? trying to figure out how close I am.
@@sheehan666 Mid october iirc 😅
@@fabieh44 I'm so close! Much excite!

@@joeurgod Thank you very much! So far I haven't planned releasing it on Spotify, but maybe I'll load it up on bandcamp for people to grab 🙂
Ohhh my goooood!!! Golden times was AWESOME!!! I need too have it on my playlist😃
The gong for heal me was criminal
Its safe to say pop punk will allways be nice to hear, doesn't matter if its 2004, 2014 or 2024 (holy shit we old af arent we?)
I know the feeling. If I could go back to the 90s, I would. The 90s were a great time.
LAWDY LAWDY, what do i pick?! I thought it was hard LAST week! If you want proof the contest is working on producing better songs, then you got it for sure! I can only wonder if they also bought the course! Id bet they did.
That’s why I don’t let people vote til after the last one hahahaha
Severed Soul had a ton of Devin Townsend Project vibes in it. I feel a lot of Epicloud vibes!
Golden times sounds like a rise against song! I love it
Golden times
No idea why but the “it does not hold up” line about that show totally got me 😂😂
The Clarissa Explains It All comment had my crying 🤣
Gunk definitely gives me Code Orange vibes. I dig it.
I personally like you smacking the gong with an implement. Maybe you can use an oversized padded drum stick?
big time crab hands
I don't even like that band Never Tell's style but that was good stuff. That song could make it on the radio easy.
Severed soul one for sure
This should be called the gong-riding contest instead xD
It’s a twister! It’s a twister!
How to enter the contest ? I can't find any information below the videos...
Never Tell is awesome
We have UnderØath at home
Trey never runs out of hats.
Fabi got my Vote:)
Golden Times was great. Reminds me of Millenial Animal's writing style.
If I’m not with you -- my vote for number 1
Nuke of a chorus by the guys from Hiroshima? How the tables have turned.
Voted :) That Never Tell song is an absolute banger and I don't even like that genre :D
Thanks for your… kind words? Haha MySpace era was a huge influence tbh. And yes I KNOW MY VOCAL MIX IS TRASH. It is still at demo stage (besides saying master)
You got my like at Clarissa Explains it All🤣
Paralysis Analysis is going crazy with the comments fr
I commend you for listening to those songs all the way through............
Some people can't handle the truth...!!! Some good songs this week..
Magnetic Cosmos had it's meh, but dude had some solid Queensryche-esque vocals.(and also felt like he was trying to write all of operation mindcrime but in space)
Severed soul sounds like someone who likes prog and Spawn of Possession
Gunk 100% gave me Car Bomb vibes
Magnetic cosmos sounds like Geoff Tate from queensryche, so props there buddy.
Very close to him indeed.
First song was a banger
Magnetic cosmos reminds me of iced earth.
14:49
24:56
My replay buttons
Golden times 🏆
Myspace was legit lol
it made me the man I am today
Kid earth singer sounds like Trey
18:36 “you hit us with this nuuuuke… of a chorus” 😂😂 they are from Hiroshima
Holy shit I fully didn’t even think of that hahahaha WHOOOOPS
Golden Times was alright. Definitely an anthem. It wasn't my favorite song this month. Sounds great though.
this one was funny as hell xD
Okay, Gunk seriously sounded like Static-X with less dynamics. It would've been cool if they chilled out a bit.
"10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb sack" amazing, I shall be using this in my daily life
That's an old saying. Just saying....(giggle)
If that’s what wins you over in a chorus, hold my beer. Lol
Not being impatient or trying to be a dick… but I’m extremely positive my entry was skipped over
does anyone know what month he's on? I don't envy him for having months and months of songs to listen to.
Mine (Kid Earth) is at the end of this one! I submitted it at the end of October
@@kevwritemeasongI entered mine the first week, never played mine… you sure yours was late October?
He is on October 13th.
Every episode, trey says the competition isn't about production, and then gives the entry with high production a pass on things he slates others for
I don't understand why you let distrokid sponsor you but when its published with distrokid its disqualified. could you please explain the logic in that? ps love the content.
Oh dear was the “hit us with this NUKE” to the band from Hiroshima intentional? Not sure if I should laugh or not 😂.
It was not hahaha
Or maybe just smash plates 😆🤔
Why are the only real songs pop punk?
because pop punk guys can't shred and only want chicks
Shredding sucks, djent sucks and let's face it most metal today sucks.
Being prog makes everything better
Songs about or named after lockdowns should be hardcore punk rock songs or they shouldn't exist at all.
If we can't hit on you in the introduction, when can we hit on you?
My name is Inigo Montoya.....You killed my Father.
do a course on how you do the meatwad voice
lift your soft palate like you're doing Kermit the Frog, then close your throat off a bit
2008 again
You have great taste in songs. That, however is one ugly guitar!
Love the gonggang!
You look a bit like Mr. Beast in the thumbnail
You seem to be more patient with the lame entries. Nah man go back to being less forgiving hahah
Not sure exactly what you changed up but your persona is more likable lately. Maybe just being more positive?
What, you don't carry a ladder to climb into your friends' windows? Or are you trying to say you honestly never had an alligator in a kiddy pool in your bedroom when you were a kid?
Are these critiques like public submissions? Or is it like just patreon submissions?
Duh never mind 😂 took me two seconds to look at the description to see you have a submission page
"That's a banger" - what?! My eyes have rolled back into limits of sarcastic expression. That and everything I've heard presented here is soupy hot garbage.
WHERES THE TOPLINE TO THE INSTRUMENTAL SONG
“So Far Awayyy”
- @dragonforce
Tre you seems really really bummed out last week. I mean, I know being a content creator must be very demanding but I wonder if long covid got to you
did you just say metalcore? lmfao
Hey Trey I’m disappointed in you playing that song from Never Tell. It sounded like it went over & over. To poppy
there's no such thing as too poppy
I rest my case about Trey and liking Pop music...Claims people write dated music but then gets hype for a pop punk song that would of been popular 20 years ago...Fucking priceless....
Great songs are timeless, even in a dated style. If it's a dated style AND it sucks, then I'ma give em shit
Just accept that most metal today and riff salads in general suck and no-one other than guitarists like that stuff. Write good songs regardless of genre.
