I've considered becoming a dealer because I've always found value in turning a hobby into a business. In my state there is also a decent demand for it, especially during the holidays. To those starting out completely new in business, the website is extremely important. If you have a bad website, people will just click off.
I had just made my business plan, and have my business name already picked out. I’m hoping by 2021 I will be opening my online watch business and eventually move into brick and mortar. I been studying and learning everything there is to know, and plus some! Hopefully you will see my last name pop up within the industry in the next few years! 😁👍🏻👍🏻
navywhiskey heyy! Thank you for checking in! Still allocating capital for inventory and trying to build my brand name awareness. My Instagram is “LuxLaRiviere” it’s going to be a slow start because I’m literally starting with nothing and the luxury watch market is expensive! Lol but I’m still aiming for my goal of before 2021! Thanks and hope you continue to watch me progress! 😊
Zack Lariviere I’ll for sure be checking that out on Instagram!!! Where did you learn about this as I’m also wanting to get involved in Luxury watch selling

You are right about the treatment of customers... Too many businesses don't care and just think customers are an endless supply... Too many businesses would rather make a grand ripping someone off than making a grand honestly... Too many businesses just think if they run their name into the mud, they will simply reopen with a new name... Too many businesses would rather loose one hundred bucks to save five cents... I see this kind of mismanagement all the time..
Good stuff. I've started to journal my watch journey with the hope to help new enthusiasts. It's amazing how quickly the hobby escalates. My first automatic was a moded SKX007 from Island Watch this last February. I plan on buying an Omega Aqua Terra by this time next year after that I will be looking at a Rolex Oyster Perpetual or a Grand Seiko Snowflake. My knowledge thus far has come from watching Marc @ Island, Random Rob, Bruce Williams, you and Federico. Just subscribed to Horology House which is stellar. Thanks for what you do....maybe someday will talk to you about a vintage birth year watch.
Thanks for listing some of the YT guys that are worth listening to? Anything else for a novice watch collector that is becoming super interested and maybe more? After 26’years I’m medicine I love this industry. Thank you for your time!
Vacheron Constantin is not a small brand whatsoever. They’re actually part of the holy grail or horology… it’s VC then PP then AP. Or VC AP then PP. I think A.Lange & Sohne is on the same level as those 3. Made in Germany the Zeitwerk is one of the best watches ever. Thinking to sell my C63s coupe and buy that watch. Should I? Awesome content by the way boss 🤝
Great video! A quick question - how can you know what is the "real" price of a specific watch? I mean, you should know how much you should pay for it and for what price you can sell it (in a profit)
John, nice video, but perhaps in a future video you can tell us a realistic amount of capital to start your own watch company. Luxury and vintage watch startups can be a huge investment. I have known people who try to buy low and sell buy but usually end up losing in the long run. It's not that easy to sell a watch at 10 thousand and even harder at 20 thousand. Also, how do you know how much to offer for watches to take in a trade? I am sure you would not want to be like a used car dealer as they have very bad negative stereotypes for them.
I would appreciate any more info you have as to how much capital I would need to buy my first high end watch (to be traded or sold). Where to buy it, make, model, etc. I've been collecting for a few years now and have done a little of both selling and trading and made some extra cash, but I'm wanting to do it full time and not only make a living but make a very nice living doing it. Thanks in advance!!!!
So how does this show us how to become a dealer? If I know all of the things you are saying then I can become a watch dealer? Will I need a boat load of cash to get started? How do I get a watch cheap enough from someone who is trying to make a profit of of the watch cheap enough to make a profit off of the watch myself. . .
@@JohnPWatches Basics? maybe I need to watch your video again because I must have missed your "Basics" Are you talking about getting into a store and working for someone or are you talking about selling your own watches for very little profit? If you are trying to get them cheaper then I would think the ones you are selling to want to get them as cheap as you did. . . Just sayin
Hi John. Great Clip. Good advice & insight! Maybe we could add in the word "Passion". As for most Carreers or business, unless you have a passion for what you're doing, you probably won't have any great measure of success. Keep up the good work 👍

@@JohnPWatches thanks because i went to my local AD and asked for one saddle they had none ( i live close to the place where they make them) they only had the one with camo dial which i think is to much for me. but they said that they could order one for me that i could try one on and I said Yes. Im not sure if im going to pull the trigger but im pretty sure i will. Sadly im allergic to metal Bracelets or leather straps. Also which forums.

John P.!! Where do I sign up to work with you guys.? I would love to be a watch dealer one day and dont mind working my way up.
Really interesting topic, keep it coming!
List your own stock on eBay... Buy it youself, for triple the price.. Relist the watches until they are bought by real customers...
That's a unique method ⌚🤴👍
u lose 10% ebay fee and 3% paypal fee each time. not very efficient

Knowing the terms and speaking the language will take years. I’d say, start collecting vintage watches and watch more videos for a few years first.
Agreed. Videos help before buying

Any age. Set goals and review your accomplishments weekly
No anyone can be in this industry. There is a lot of long days and hours.

Not all fun and games :)
