"Iconic"? Really? Songs can't be "iconic". Iconic applies only to images, it comes from the Greek "eikon" (image) as in "iconoclasts" (destroyers of sacred images). Songs can be famous, popular, legendary, etc.. but never "iconic" 🙄 "Iconic": adjective. Relating to or of the nature of an icon. Example: "he became an iconic figure for directors around the world". From Latin iconicus, from Greek eikonikos, from eikōn "likeness, image". Clearly PA Media don't know English and use words of which they don't even know the meaning

By the phrase "Football's Coming Home" you English fans believe that the game, as we know it now and the one that is played all over the world, is "coming home" to where it all began, namely England and maybe even Wembley......but you're wrong, the "passing game" as it is called was first created in Scotland by Queens Park in the 19the Century, copied shortly after by the other Scottish teams...the first tlme English players saw the passing game was when Scotland played England in the very first football international in Glasgow 1872......after English clubs, particularly in the North, began importing Scottish players in order to teach their players the PS it wasn't too long before all the English clubs were playing that way....then, because of emigration, the system went all over the world....the Passing Game became the beautiful game we all know and love....All thanks to a wee team from Glasgow, Queens Park.

Originally, the song was written to mark the England Senior Men's football team's participation in the 1996 UEFA European Football Championship, which England was hosting at that time.
It then got re-written for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France 2 years later,
Since 1996, Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) has become the 'de facto' anthem of English Football and for both the Senior Men's and Women's England National Football Teams!

It didn’t actually come home, though, did it?
Because the song was about the men’s game.
It’s like when Andy Murray won Wimbledon in 2013. Yes, Virginia Wade was mentioned, but he was the first British man to win there since Fred Perry in the 30s.
If Emma Raducanu won Wimbledon, she would (rightly) be lauded as the first British woman to win it since Wade in 1977.
Men and Women play the same sports but because they don’t ply each other, you can’t really link them in the same way.
Doesn’t take anything away from the Lionesses’ win, though.
