Well, he looked pretty noble for me, sparing Blake and treatimg him like family, all of this while imposing his royalty as the king. He was only very angry to have his body misued by Blake and was punishing him for that, after all he is still tecnically a viking.
The readiness to kill Blake made me dislike everyone in Asgard 😂. Especially the condescending "you know nothing of pain" from Thor considering the torturous hell Blake had to endure for YEARS.
….Dude Thor has experienced just much if not astronomically more than Blake since in reality Blake’s while interesting and having a pretty shit life with the whole trapped in mirror world it is very fairly recent but Thor himself has endured over a thousand of tribulations and suffering inside of it. If any one had right to call Blake out it is Thor who is the original that Blake is a facsimile (though of only an aspect of Thor) sense while Thor was everything Blake was he was also far more
@@constantinvaldor703 Inversely, if any one had the right to call out Thor and the gods on their actions ESPECIALLY the god Thor Odinson, it would be the man forced to be born to be Thor's mortal half who decided from the start to become more then a warrior and a god but a hero as well. Donald Blake is Thor The Founding Avenger. In this story yes his mind is amplified with magical rage given to him by an evil dragon, but all the more reason to help him. Instead they make him the God of Lies, trap and force him to into constant torture for all eternity until a new Ragnarök How messed up is it that Thor never tells Steve, Tony or Bruce where their oldest friend is? I still remember the comic where the Fantastic 4 is mourning cause the Human Torch just died. The Thing is completely silent and doesn't know how to cope, so Bruce Banner and Donald Blake turn to each other, nod, and transform into Hulk and Thor, and tell Ben Grimm to let it out. Ben Grimm just swings as hard as he can until he's too distraught and tired to fight and finally is able to cry it out, Thor and Hulk hugging him as he breaks down.
I was hoping for a more nuanced resolution to the Blake issue. No such luck. Thor et al was faced with a very powerful threat in Blake, a very emotionally complex character. Blake shows a more intuitive grasp of the more subtle and wider uses of Thor's powers than Thor himself does .... which is rather troubling. Had he not collapsed into emotional self pity, Blake most likely would have defeated everyone there with the possible exception of Odin himself, even Thor, despite being in control of the vastly powerful Destroyer armor. A very lucky win for Thor indeed. Speaking of Thor, he handled this in the way most writers show as his first and generally fall back manner; hyper aggression and brute force. He is the poster child for the idea that power does not equate to wisdom. Now as far as Thor and Blake being brothers, It was also my impression that Blake, though crated by Odin, is an aspect of Thor's personality. As such they cannot be "brothers." That would be like saying Banner and the Hulk are "brothers", which is also not true for similar reasons. Thor and Blake are two aspects of the same person. Blake is just an artificially created persona who now has his own body.
Its actually funny that you mention that last part with hulk and banner not being brothers. There was actually a story were they got separated and bruce made similar comparisons, only for hulk to humorously mock the claim moments later. In anycase This whole scenario could have been handled better yeah but I wouldn’t know how, it had me fairly peeved since the start of the story anyway.
I suppose one might say that while I may not agree with Blake's methods, I can understand and sympathize with the agony and suffering he endured at the hands of the Norse gods, especially Odin. One might say that these immortals suffered for their arrogance and short-sightedness as they learned the consequences of confronting a revenge-obsessed man. They believed mortals to be insipid, inept and fragile creatures, yet one of them gave the gods a brutal reminder of how dangerous mortals can be when pushed beyond the edge of their sanity. I suppose that is the punishment that Odin and his kind wrought on themselves when he created Donald Blake: the irony is that in doing so, he created his own doom and his people suffered for his mistake.
I didn't like this saga very much but this ending is so much, blake finally got what he deserved😈 I'm only sorry for beta ray bill, he just wanted to help and instead this single feat and generosity will cause him a lot of problems😢, I hope he manages to recover, I will follow him closely in his series
Donald Blake is such a tragic villain, and he's effective because you can understand and empathise with him. If I found out that my life was a complete lie, a fabrication, that I was created... that maybe I wasnt even real... that I had been used by others and thrown away...ide tear down the heavens, too.
Let's not forget that Donald Blake regardless of what he was, was a founding avenger just as much as Tony, Bruce and Steve, but the Avengers simply forgot about him after a certain point of separation and didn't even care that he got killed.
While I like the overall concept and the path the story took. I feel the ending to it was a bit rushed and forced. They created a huge epic, only to have basically everyone break down and sort of shuffle off. It's not bad, not at all, but I feel there was more to this and it simply wasn't expanded upon. Blake was built up to truly pushing the idea of what Asgard was meant to be, showcasing all it ugly darkness hidden behind the rainbow colors. He was literally that dirty little secret that could bring it all down so I thought he'd have more of a lasting impact.
i really hate how almost everytime i try to read comics, i read it from right to left because i get used to reading mangas and i just end up really confused

And how did Blake summon mjionir and how did Thor and Blake are in same place without exchange their souls??. And how is Odin so powerless man.
Cates does this a lot he'll hype something up then it ends up being disappointing, Like King Thor vs Knull for example, Nonetheless this issue was decent.
Odin gave Thor the Odinforce, Loki placed him in the prison made to hold thim (Loki) until Ragnarok, and gave Blake the title of "God of lies". I Don't know how he summoned Mjolnir, seeing as both Blake& Stick = Thor & Mjolnir trade... But seeing as he seemingly grabbed it from the Bifrost, maybe it circumvented the trade (Or he just holds more control/ knowledge and is able to do it, much like I would think Odin would be able to if he held th OF)

And as badly as I feel for Donald Blake, the fact of the matter is that Blake effectively deposed Asgard’s Skyfather and attempted to commit genocide against all the other Asgardians. No matter how much we sympathize with Blake, this is literally the highest crime you can commit against Asgard. So Thor was very merciful all things considered. *EDIT* One other thing I forgot. Back during the Classic Era, there was a time that Tyr Odinson attempted to depose Odin and Thor. When the plot was foiled, Odin intended to kill Tyr then and there. It was Thor who bargained for Tyr’s life, resulting in the God of War’s exile.

Yeah man Nick Klein is saving these works for me. The lackluster endings to each arc are only serving well enough for me to stomach because of his art.
Loki is very powerful and a legit threat who can take down the JL if he's written well but people only think he's a pushover and weak sauce is because of the mcu.
The JL? And the MCU lowballs their heavy hitters for some reason. Loki is underrated as far as strength and combat prowess goes. The MCU doesn’t do the characters justice unless it’s Iron Man for some reason.
Mjolnir is one of THE ultimate trolls i know xD End of everything could be happening around it and it would probably just ignore it until someone picks it up and beats the gangsta out of someone else.
A good issue, but...dunno, it feels wrong Odin being pretty much banished after come to help, and also weird how everyone, except Loki, don't have a bit of simpathy for Donald. I mean, Loki himself, and even Thor, had done worst things for fun. Still better that Aaron, but still feel like something is off.
So I’m not fully up to date. I know Odin passed the mantle to Thor and I’ve read most of the Black Wintet storyline but did something happen between Thor and Odin? I know they’ve never been on the best of terms but it seems like something bigger happened.
Thor recently learned in _Avengers 42_ that his true mother is the Phoenix. Maybe he feels betrayed because of the Gaia lie? Honestly, it’s not explained why Thor has effectively exiled Odin.
I think "Thor" won this cause he was Piloting the Destroyer Armor, if he was without that armor and his allies, the fight probably would've been even since Blake and Thor are, in essence, the same being.
uhm... given the face he makes at 8:24 (he seems like a madman), and given the punishment inflected on blake, that first gets crowned the new god of lies and subjected to the same punishment that mythological loki gets, with a serpent pouring venom constantly on the god eyes [technically it's intermittently, just to allow the god to regenerate his eyes, so his wife uses a bowl to contain the venom, than the bowl must be emptied and again the venom destroyed loki's eyes//face], i'd say this thor seems like a madman?
They really needed the fuck out of the gods in marvel. To be fair they nerfed all cosmic entities and gods….back then Odin could sneeze galaxies out of existence
Donald should have know better Considering in Thor Volume 3 Annual( The Cover you see in the Intro is from that Book) He was the One who Told Thor not To Kill Grog.
I don't know man. Cates seems to have picked up the attitude that Matt Fraction and Jason Aaron started with Odin. Thor never had this kind of animosity with him, there was always a level of respect.
@@FernandoComicsOfficial I feel that Post-Ragnarok Thor has never had a good relationship with Odin. Even JMS Skyfather Thor told Donald Blake that the reason he was so particular when bringing back Asgardians was so that he did not accidentally bring back Odin. JMS Thor still respected and loved Odin, but he loved being in complete control of his life a lot more. Then the moment Thor brought Odin back - presumably transferring the sliver of Odinforce which restored Mjolnir into Odin’s body, where it regenerated - their relationship became defined by contempt and spite for one another. Thor was enraged at all the secrets Odin kept, and Odin showed contempt for all of the mistakes Thor made as Skyfather. Matt Fraction’s Thor run had the God of Thunder all but despise the Allfather of Asgard. And considering that Fraction’s Odin would have sat and watched the Nine Realms burn from Surtur’s death explosion unless Loki projected an illusion of Frigga promising Odin sex? Yeah, I can see why Thor hated him. Jason Aaron’s writing of Odin’s character was par for the course if you ask me. Aaron’s only change was to make the Odinforce’s power fluctuate based on the host’s emotional state - a nuance I actually like. Depressed Odin fell to such lows that he was defeated by a hammerless Thor. However, this same Jason Aaron wrote an Old King Thor who obliterated the universe-obliterating Final Form Gorr. I’m pretty sure that Old King Thor outperformed all previous versions of himself with that final feat, including Phoenix Force Old King Thor, Necrosword Old King Thor, and Rune King Thor.
@@theopportuneson699 it's true that JMS Thor didn't want to immediately bring back Odin, but he offered to, and meant it. And they spoke with respect and admiration for each other. Then Matt Fraction turned it into a relationship that was toxic and bitter. Then Aaron followed it, and now Cates has followed it.
I’ve clearly been out of the game for a while but when tf did Donald Blake and Thor become two entirely different people I thought Donald was Thor’s depowered human form?
Wow! That is impressive! Beated a god like nothing! Btw, since Mangog made thor look like a joke, who do you think wins between the destroyer and Mangog in a battle (not necessarily to the "death")?

His premises and build up are fantastic but his pay offs feel unearned and out of left field. I know we still have loads of Donny's work left and at the least I'm happy he pays respect to Thor's powers and character (though sometimes, Kingly or not, he's a little stern, e.g. to Doctor Strange, a friend and sorcerer supreme who helped him put Mjiolner back before 'I will not ask a second time', like come on Thor, give him the benefit of the doubt as he is restricting an Odin Force mass murderer).

At least he is not jobbing or moping here like he was with that one writer who never seemed to write anything good after the first Gorr story...
Agreed
Well, he looked pretty noble for me, sparing Blake and treatimg him like family, all of this while imposing his royalty as the king. He was only very angry to have his body misued by Blake and was punishing him for that, after all he is still tecnically a viking.
The readiness to kill Blake made me dislike everyone in Asgard 😂. Especially the condescending "you know nothing of pain" from Thor considering the torturous hell Blake had to endure for YEARS.
Especially since Donald Blake was just as much a founding Avenger as Tony, Steve and Bruce were.
Instead they make him the God of Lies, trap and force him to into constant torture for all eternity until a new Ragnarök
How messed up is it that Thor never tells Steve, Tony or Bruce where their oldest friend is?
This is what I’ve been waiting for and didn’t even know it 😭✊🏼
I suppose one might say that while I may not agree with Blake's methods, I can understand and sympathize with the agony and suffering he endured at the hands of the Norse gods, especially Odin.
I didn't like this saga very much but this ending is so much, blake finally got what he deserved😈 I'm only sorry for beta ray bill, he just wanted to help and instead this single feat and generosity will cause him a lot of problems😢, I hope he manages to recover, I will follow him closely in his series
tbf knowing that your just a costume for someone else to slide into when ever they feel like cant be good you.
This was a cool issue I wanna see the conclusion to this arc hopefully Cates does this one better than the mess he made in KIB.
This is the conclusion to the arc.
@@theopportuneson699 Next issue is
As always.. Epic video!!!!
"And then I had to ask myself....what did he do to make them nigga THAT MAD"
Thor as king is certainly mouthy. I kept hoping Odin would break his jaw for him or something.
And the character assasination of Odin continues.
I have no idea what even is happening in the current story line but it seems like they massacred Odin
i really hate how almost everytime i try to read comics, i read it from right to left because i get used to reading mangas and i just end up really confused
I was expecting a long battle between Thor,Odin, bill vs Blake.
But nevertheless good run of cates.
But why did Thor give blake to Loki??? And what did Loki do to blake????
And how did Blake summon mjionir and how did Thor and Blake are in same place without exchange their souls??.
And how is Odin so powerless man.
Yeah the answer is Jason Aaron
Cates does this a lot he'll hype something up then it ends up being disappointing, Like King Thor vs Knull for example, Nonetheless this issue was decent.
Odin gave Thor the Odinforce, Loki placed him in the prison made to hold thim (Loki) until Ragnarok, and gave Blake the title of "God of lies". I Don't know how he summoned Mjolnir, seeing as both Blake& Stick = Thor & Mjolnir trade... But seeing as he seemingly grabbed it from the Bifrost, maybe it circumvented the trade (Or he just holds more control/ knowledge and is able to do it, much like I would think Odin would be able to if he held th OF)
@@cheeseburgerfreddy6350 yes first I was hyped for black winter then he screwed him then I was hyped for Thor vs knull he again screwed him then also I was hyped for Thor Odin bill vs Blake then also he put the fight short.
He is writing good but something is missing

Asgard king is back 😇😇
i love that dr strange is like your strong but cyttorak
Love tha Don's run on thor mane. He brought back so much respect to the meaning of thor even after he got shitted on and still till this day by jason Aaron. Respect the Don
Since when was thor ruthless
@@dakodablack7312 Thor’s far from ruthless. Thor spared Donald Blake, who Odin was about to kill. Not to mention that Thor is on great terms with Loki. Aaron’s King Thor had effectively exiled Loki to Jotunheim.
@@theopportuneson699 he struck Donald when he was already defeated he gave a speech then gave him to Loki who he know does fucked up shit that’s not sparing him he gave him an eternal torture that’s not a king move at all
@@dakodablack7312 Thor’s not a king, he’s a Skyfather. God-like beings have different standards and different punishments. Because they have such long lifespans, their punishments are far harsher.
*EDIT*
One other thing I forgot. Back during the Classic Era, there was a time that Tyr Odinson attempted to depose Odin and Thor. When the plot was foiled, Odin intended to kill Tyr then and there. It was Thor who bargained for Tyr’s life, resulting in the God of War’s exile.
@@theopportuneson699 that’s pretty lit
Once again Donny Cates forgets Cannon am I the only one that remembers Donald Blake being aware that he's Thor conscience
can we talk the art though...i dont think this comic would be anywhere as good as it was if it wasnt for the way the art brought out the scenes in the story...could feel actual emotion...see it in Loki of all people, the defeated Odin, the enraged Thor and finally the mess of Donald Blake
Oh yeah, the illustrators always seem to carry cates comic for me despite how fed up i get with the story.
Yeah man Nick Klein is saving these works for me. The lackluster endings to each arc are only serving well enough for me to stomach because of his art.
"No more words"
0:29 that shiit looked chad as fck
My thoughts exactly
Loki is very powerful and a legit threat who can take down the JL if he's written well but people only think he's a pushover and weak sauce is because of the mcu.
Yeah ,but this dude Donny Cates is undereating Loki too,it pains me to say this but Jason Aaron wrote Loki better on terms of power level
The JL? And the MCU lowballs their heavy hitters for some reason. Loki is underrated as far as strength and combat prowess goes. The MCU doesn’t do the characters justice unless it’s Iron Man for some reason.
The JL isn’t in Marvel...tf. And he wouldn’t be able to take them down lol not even on his best day.
Martian Manhunter shouldn’t have too much trouble with Loki...
@@blackshadexl loki was going head to head with dormmamu while that so called nexus being was sneaking around

Great choice of music

A groveling Odin; the writers have really negatively deconstructed this once awesome character.
Odin, RIP.
3:13 Dr Strange is just vibing to the techno music in the background
Is Balder still a (half) brother of Thor in the current comics? He doesn't get used much anymore.
yes but he has his own things and he babysit for the younger sister
Yeah, Thor mother now is Phoenix though no longer Gaia. I still going with Gaia as Thor mother though. The Phonix is just pure nonsense.
That story made me feel sick.
From the saddness, disappointment, brutality, or stupidity of the story telling?
What happened to the wisdom that Odin sacrificed his eye for , at the well of Mimir ?
Long gone. He hasn’t had it ever since he was resurrected in 2010.
All hail the King.
Wow...that’s interesting. Wonder what will happen next... (not saying anything until a couple of days pass and people see this)
As he should.
Thor rules!
Why do I have a feeling in the next issue that Donna and Gorr the Butcher are gonna fight together against Thor.
I hate how they treat Odin nowadays.
Made Odin look weak as f**k and told strange he wouldn’t ask twice?!!!!! Thor is a beast!!!!
Donald was right all about things... Thor and Odin are so cruel and blind
So I’m not fully up to date. I know Odin passed the mantle to Thor and I’ve read most of the Black Wintet storyline but did something happen between Thor and Odin? I know they’ve never been on the best of terms but it seems like something bigger happened.
Yeah why Oldin depressed? How is he still alive? Thought he died recently
Thor recently learned in _Avengers 42_ that his true mother is the Phoenix. Maybe he feels betrayed because of the Gaia lie? Honestly, it’s not explained why Thor has effectively exiled Odin.
As in the Phoenix Gorce herself? Damn I had not at all heard of that
@@SeanB224 It was a very recent reveal. As in, a month or two ago recent.
@@theopportuneson699 wow
I think "Thor" won this cause he was Piloting the Destroyer Armor, if he was without that armor and his allies, the fight probably would've been even since Blake and Thor are, in essence, the same being.
Also Thor saying Blake know's nothing of pain is a straight up lie.
Also I expect Thor to get very angry with Loki when he discovers what Loki did with Blake.
I heard vicious beating and came straight over
Friendly reminder that Thor can break planets.
When does this arc take place during rest of marvel cuz it feels like it's been going on for a while.
Wow, what a twist!!!
I felt bad for Odin
It would have been great if odin had fought thor to finish blake.
uhm... given the face he makes at 8:24 (he seems like a madman), and given the punishment inflected on blake, that first gets crowned the new god of lies and subjected to the same punishment that mythological loki gets, with a serpent pouring venom constantly on the god eyes [technically it's intermittently, just to allow the god to regenerate his eyes, so his wife uses a bowl to contain the venom, than the bowl must be emptied and again the venom destroyed loki's eyes//face], i'd say this thor seems like a madman?
Yea
wasn't that loki idea
Asgardians and Mjolnir have turned into a shitshow.
I forget what this storyline is called, the description confused me.
They really needed the fuck out of the gods in marvel. To be fair they nerfed all cosmic entities and gods….back then Odin could sneeze galaxies out of existence
MFing KING THOR!
Donald blew a fuse
Didnt enjoy this run but thank you for the video
Donald should have know better Considering in Thor Volume 3 Annual( The Cover you see in the Intro is from that Book) He was the One who Told Thor not To Kill Grog.
Why the sudden shift against odin?
@@FernandoComicsOfficial these writers clearly have a lot of father issues...

Destroyer vs Doomsday who wins
Most likely Doosmday especially if he starts adapting mid fight
@Jkikka111 Wuquehe Toe to toe? Mangog tore through that armor as if it was going out of style, Destroyer armor is strong but it ain't that strong.

Doomsday probably. And even if Destroyer wins the first Fight. After it it's definitely Doomsday.
Am I the only one who feels bad Donald blake ?
I am confused....why is everyone beating the fuck out of the original thor?
I read a Cates interview where he said he was doing 7 years of stories? If so, why does he keep finishing arcs in a meagre 6 issues, 1-2 issues of filler, then another 6 arcs? His premises and build up are fantastic but his pay offs feel unearned and out of left field. I know we still have loads of Donny's work left and at the least I'm happy he pays respect to Thor's powers and character (though sometimes, Kingly or not, he's a little stern, e.g. to Doctor Strange, a friend and sorcerer supreme who helped him put Mjiolner back before 'I will not ask a second time', like come on Thor, give him the benefit of the doubt as he is restricting an Odin Force mass murderer).

Also considering the narrative that the story went with I really don't think Donald deserved the punishment that he got.

Why does he even need to be in the destroyer armour...
Wym ? Thor was stuck in donald blakes world and the only way he could go back to asgard was with his soul and he used the destroyer as a vessel
