57 year old male here. I've Been on carnivore and 0 carbs and 16-8 intermittent fasting for about 9 weeks. I dropped 40 pounds so far! My testosterone level was 1500+ which was off the chart. Going in for another test in a few weeks. I feel great, like 20 years younger. I don't consider my eating habits a diet. I consider it a healthy lifestyle. I am thankful that a friend shared your youtube channel with me. I plan to live longer and healthier than my ancestors. Thank you, Dr. Ken Berry!!!
What's the point of lying? There's no way your test levels are 1500 unless you're doing TRT. Even people on TRT aren't getting as high as 1500. Not sure why you have to exaggerate to make a point.
@bendagostino2217 not lying. I forgot to mention i was on androge 1.62% 3 pumps prior to going carnivore. I had reduced to 2 pumps 1 month on carnivore, 2 months carnivore, 1 month on 2 pumps my tests had me at 1500+. 5 months into carnivore and no longer on androgel. Waiting for next blood test results. However I feel awesome without it. Thanks for calling me a liar.

I saw a research that shows that tofu does not effect estrogen levels because of the chemical make up. Look it up but actually tofu is not as bad as they said before
It is amazing that I have completely given up ALL of the things on the list!! No wonder I feel so great! Still in the fight for my life, still battling terrible diseases, but the symptoms are subsiding.
Pasta is my vice. I'm 62 and raised on a farm in Tennessee. When young we butchered all of our meat and raised all vegs to eat. The only products mom bought was some fruit, flour, corn meal, salt & pepper, coffee and tea. I noticed after leaving for college then joining the military things started to change within my body. After listening to you for over a 1 year now I think I have the missing puzzle pieces. Being an agricultural major with a lot of food production classes I know there is a lot of "stuff" we give to cattle, hogs and chickens that stimulate growth and crosses the bearer to humans. These GMO items added to our vegs, fruits, juices etc... has ruined the human race in the western civilizations. I'd bet underdeveloped countries do not have these issues growing there only food sources organically but another topic another day. I'm going to try to get back to my days of young produce our own food sources and maybe get back to the old days + a few years! LOL Wish me luck Dr.
I lived in rural Thailand for a few months. You are absolutely correct. It didn't take long before my clothes were falling off of me. It was almost effortless. The food quality was just amazing. I swear I could taste the sunlight in the vegetables they grew out there.

Thank you for your input, I agreed on all the things you mentioned except for #2 and #8. Actually, just a matter of specification which is so important for people to understand. Only an excessive amount of sugar from fruits (fructose) does have an impact on lowering your testosterone, including refined sugars. We’re talking about eating up to 10 mangoes plus other fruits in a moderate rate in order for this effect to happen. Eating fruits moderately daily does not have any slight effect of lowering your testosterone, in fact, many fruits have too low amount of fructose to cause a slight impact on your testosterone. We also need to discern between whole- vs refined grains. The prior is an optimal choice that is rich in fiber, while the latter is the one I guess you were talking about which does have a negative impact on not only testosterone itself, but your overall health. These refined grains (carbs) are those we know as white bread, especially white flour which is heavily used for bakery products, combined with refined sugars. Many pasta products also use white flour as the main ingredient, same for bread. There are however, whole grain alternatives like I mentioned, but it’s the popularity and common usage of pasta and grain products that contains these refined carbs that does have a negative impact on testosterone we’re talking about.
The video is indeed intriguing, but it's important to bear in mind that the interplay between diet and hormone levels is a complex matter that isn't fully understood. Phytoestrogens, which are found in foods like soy, can act in a similar way to estrogen in the body. However, their impact can vary based on factors such as age, health status, and the amount consumed. Some research suggests that they might have estrogen-like effects in certain areas and anti-estrogen effects in others. As for testosterone, the findings are mixed. Some studies have found that phytoestrogens can lower testosterone levels, while others have found no effect. It's also worth noting that phytoestrogens are linked to various health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, if you replace carbohydrates with fat in your diet, you might gain weight. Many people focus on insulin, but there's also Acylation-Stimulating-Protein (ASP), which affects fat metabolism in a similar way to insulin. When you consume fewer carbs, you might expect to lose weight, but that's not always the case. Despite producing less insulin, you produce more ASP through your fat consumption, which influences fat metabolism. Another aspect that is often overlooked is the process of converting glucose (carbs) into fat, a process known as De Novo Lipogenesis (DNL). This process is only about 70-75% efficient, meaning that about 25-30% of the energy from glucose is lost during the conversion process. Insulin helps other cells, like muscle cells, absorb glucose, which increases their metabolism and energy use. This doesn't happen with fat. With fat, you absorb all the energy it provides and you don't increase your energy expenditure. So, you might gain weight if you replace carbs with fat. The decrease in testosterone in men over time is a fact. However, it's often attributed to lifestyle changes, such as a more sedentary lifestyle and the obesity epidemic, rather than a change in diet. While I can't definitively say that diet doesn't also contribute to the decrease in testosterone, if it does, it's likely a minor factor. I believe that 80% to 90% or more of the decrease can be attributed to a more sedentary lifestyle and especially obesity. Obesity in men inhibits testosterone production and also leads to estrogen production. For women, it's the opposite: obesity tends to disrupt estrogen production and increase testosterone, because adipose tissue contains enzymes that can convert precursor hormones, such as androstenedione, into testosterone.
Hi Dr Ken. I discovered the keto diet in early 2018 you were one of the first RUclips teachers I gravitated towards. I’m 6’4” 57, I was doing great, lost 120 pounds in a year. Last October, while playing pickle ball, had a minor heart attack which led to a double bypass... I kind of lost my faith in the keto - (maybe I even blamed keto?)and I went back to eating grains and started drinking beer I gained 65 pounds (275-340) I am miserable, low energy, inflammation is back and it’s been a son of a bitch battle getting back on the keto train! Carbs are like heroine- highly addictive! Thanks for your ministry, I’ve recommitted to tuning in every day to your channel like I used too. Pray for recovery!
Mark Mather Did you ever get your calcium score? Most likely you had “the widow maker” from years and decades of consuming a lot of sugar and carbs (typical western diet). Then you lost a lot of weight on keto, which made you feel better and you became more active. Most likely keto saved you from having “the big one” and actually cleaned out some of the accumulated calcium in your arteries. Look up Ivor Cummins.
The Kung Flu and the associated stress has made me give in to "comfort foods" way too often over the last 6 months. I also spent 12 hrs per day in bed for over a month after the COVID diagnoses. I am up 25lbs from my weight loss of 70 lbs and I am trying to break the carb addiction again. I know I cannot go into the holiday season addicted to carbs and not gain more weight. Today is day 2 of strict keto after a 24 hr fast. I am there with you trying to get back on track. Best wishes for both of us on overcoming the deadly white powder.
The CBC in your biannual physicals will give your doc good clues about cholesterol etc. Weight control always a great idea. And carbs - me too, me too. So I still do my spuds, just that it's less frequent and noooo supersizing. Good luck Mark, hang in there, you'll tweak this out sooner than later. :-)
When I started carnivore diet exactly 2 years ago my serum testosterone level was 4, lower than my wife’s I think. The doctor told me it wasn’t important and not to worry about it. I took a follow up test 9 weeks into the diet and it was 13. The difference this level change made to my life was incredible, every area of my life changed in a positive way except maybe how much body hair I was growing. I took some really bad advice and started TRT to get it even higher, there were many positives but the negatives far outweighed it. If I can give men some advice it would be that your test levels are about the most important part of you that you can look after, your diet will directly affect them, the carnivore diet is the very best way to positively improve serum testosterone naturally, along with some HIIT and weights and finally - never, ever, ever get on trt - don’t ever let a doctor (or anyone for that matter) inject synthetic hormones into your body.

A couple of beers per day is NO PROBLEM. Your manboobs are likely just from way too much carbohydrate. Beer is not super high in carbs, just have them with dinner or excercise. Also, IPA’s are great. You want to steer clear of the typical swill (budmiloors) tho, because it’s just as high in alcohol, higher even that a lot of craft beers, taste like water, and people (who drink them) tend to pound them all day-that’s what they are designed for (“less filling”).
Notice how all the craft and other fancy "beers" always have what looks like soyboys drinking them? You know those bearded cylinder headed looking things. Yep.
- Many studies _failed_ to show any link between eating soy products and testosterone levels. The test subject's testosterone levels did not show any measurable decrease from soy basically. Animal studies only show truly significant effects in some edge cases like for baby rats eating soy. So there is little agreement there. - Before industrial cow, pig, and chicken farming people used to eat much less meat, and instead ate more grain and fruits (fiber), but their testosterone levels were higher. - Mint lowering testosterone has nothing to do with menthol, but with other molecules, so fake mint is actually okay. A _lot_ of herbs have hormonal effects. - processed sugars (like glucose-fructose syrup) and trans fats are most likely big causes for lowered testosterone, there are lots of agreement with this in many articles. - not mentioned are chemicals (like PFOA) used to make Teflon, and then dumped into rivers. Because they are practically not broken down, we can find them in most foods, drinking water, and animals, and humans. Those also lower testosterone. If you want to avoid them the recommendation is to move to another planet.

I’m had lived Plant base for almost 5 years now. My hubby (of 8 months now) and I have different eating lifestyles. We married a few months ago. He wanted to adopt my lifestyle of eating…I was hesitated…Because He was Keto. 5 years ago, I could no longer eat meat due to my body having inflammation ( note I haven’t eaten processed foods in many years) It was quite adjustment for myself. I have been able to introduce venison, organic chicken , fish and seafood . But I’m very strict on my consumption. Moving forward we married and now being under the same roof he wanted to change up from Keto to plantbase(lots of rice/grains!!! Some tofu And veggies). In the pass 5 months it was very noticeable that his testosterone levels have dropped to zero!!! We have talked about this openly and honestly. You hit on everything!!! Change in his job stress but in a good way. But still stress. 4 days 12 hour shifts working ER nurse. We sold our home and fulltime RV life. Which we love!!! We both suffered not having our regular workout daily routine … we have been back into since First of year. Although, he has been hit or miss cause lack of energy. He has stopped the beer…drank too much on his days off. I’ve continued my lifestyle and he can’t figure out why he is so tank! Now, I know…he needs to be back on keto for sure! He has to make the decision to change what he can. Now, I have to change his meals, considering I’m the one who prepares all meals!!! Thank you so much for sharing this information on men.
Good thing none of these broke my heart! On a side note, earlier this year I had to cease consumption of protein drinks and bars (and fiber gummies). I became violently ill and through various testing with my diet, I concluded it was something particular with all these things: sucralose. For those curious, sucralose is an artificial sweetener that started off as sugar, then has had atoms removed and chlorine put in their stead. I was sick for over a month and when I finally cut all that out, I was fine. I know this is a little off topic, but I thought to share this as another good reason to read your labels and do a little research. Well, I actually just read that there's evidence to suggest that chlorine reduces testosterone, but all the articles were talking about dermal absorption in pools. Maybe a smidge on topic.

Soy doesn't lower testosterone, that is proven factually and in practise. Soy has phytoestrogen, a plant form of estrogen which actually inhibits estrogen binding in the body, so it lowers your estrogen. I've eaten soy in forms of Tofu, soy milk, tvp and my bloodwork is always great! Test is in high reference range always, E2 estradiol is always in mid reference range. Don't know why talk bad about food that's been eaten for thousands of years?
Dr Ken berry is a absolute legend.. for 2 years I felt awful with chronic fatigue.. been on carnivor for 1 month now and already feel much better.. thanks for all your advice 👍👍👍
Thanks, I guess for points 2 fruit is ok but juiced fruice is a no due to loss of fibre and spiking the blood sugar without the fibre to control it. For 8, I think is dependant on the grain and GI release. The lower GI usually means the more whole the grain is. Agreed with pretty much all.
There were always questions in my mind about flax seeds because of the high chances of them being even indirectly infected with glyphosate. Now we see that they also do a number on your testosterone. Thanks for that clue. I am also wondering about the soy based sauce called Tamari. It is a fermented product and have been told that upon fermentation the soy sauce loses its harmfulness. The same is said about Tofu. Please comment on this some day when you get a chance. Thank you.
Thankfully none of these I'm very strict keto diet and I recently cut out the sodas and can see a dramatic difference already and I cut out the protein bars when I noticed that I was stalling
Couple of questions in remarks on this video. As far as protein bars also well looking at the label make sure that it isn't soy protein or protein isolate from soy. When you see vegetable oils are bad, does that include coconut, olive and avocado oils as far as consuming and frying in? Also, I've heard that anything that raises your estrogen from exogenous source plays on your body's negative feedback loop. Male bodies produce testosterone based on cholesterol. Testosterone has many different hormones it can convert into and is supposed to. One of which is estrogen. There's an enzyme called aromatase and there's a higher concentration and your belly fat that aromatase can convert testosterone into estrogen. One way your body knows how much testosterone you have is based on how much estrogen you have. If your estrogen is too high, whether from aromatizing or from exogenous sources, your brain will think you have enough testosterone and lower production. I'm not a doctor. This is what I've read and seen many times One last question, does cooking in a Teflon pan or a non-stick coated pan have any effect on testosterone? I'm not sure if it's a plastic or what that stuff is
He's not wrong. I've stayed away from all those foods for decades, have kept a low percent body fat, and have exercised regularly for the past 25 years. I'm 64 and my testosterone is about 950 nanogram/deciliter. And no, I don't have a Leydig cell tumor. Over the last 10 years my testosterone has declined 10%, as expected.

This video is very timely for me. Last week, a physicians assistant came to my gym and gave a talk to the men. He pushed expensive potions, pills and injections for low testosterone. I took his offered broshure detailing the costs. Diet was NEVER mentioned.

I don’t think so! I think for women it’s more ratio based. I’m no doctor/scientist but I think women should consumer more estrogen than testosterone, high testosterone women tend to have men like bodies, like wise for males.
To much estrogen can be bad for you as well. Causes weight gain, the fat makes more estrogen, causing all kinds of other problems (including female issues).

LOL
Wish me luck Dr.

Hello, thank you for your valuable input. In regards to soy, any amount of intake is detrimental or just in excess?
Hang in there Mark, you know it works. 💪💪🤞🏻🖖🏽
Andy - that’s totally correct! You nailed it..I had the widow maker clog - but also had 5 stents prior. ( 2009-2016).
The Kung Flu and the associated stress has made me give in to "comfort foods" way too often over the last 6 months. I also spent 12 hrs per day in bed for over a month after the COVID diagnoses. The CBC in your biannual physicals will give your doc good clues about cholesterol etc. Weight control always a great idea. And carbs - me too, me too.
I'm assuming that's why you had low t to begin with. Anabolics can negatively impact your natural test levels.
@@okaynope5197 no mate, didn't start supplementing till way after I started carnivore, the low T was due to awful diet

Did i mean boobies? 😂

@@Photologistic Hops are high in Phytoestrogens.

I did, heard it's like watermelon and arugula. Produce nitric oxide. And inhaling through your nose. Puts a smile on my girl's face.
One more reason to quit drinking.
Many studies seem to suggest that diet sodas, like Pepsi Max increase estrogen production in men, as well. Makes sense when you consider that they contain artificial sweetening - might as well put them in the same category as fruit juices.
Bread. Will miss it. But no worries. Veg oil will need to change out also.
Interesting, when I lived in Cuba everything was SOY, soy vegetable oil, soy minced meat, soy yogurt and the list goes on, it wasn't very delicious either but since there was nothing else to eat...
The dictator surely does not want an uprising of strong men
My biggest was Flaxseeds. I thought they were so healthy because of the high omega 3s. I guess I will switch to hempseeds.
Dr. Berry please have Ivor on to talk about his latest research on the C word that shall not be mentioned. It's time to let the masses be informed of science instead of governement policy and tv commercials
Dr. Berry, Ivor, and Dr. Fung have given so much great information to us.
As requested, my response to your question is the grains...Pastas/Breads/Pastries; giving those up or keeping my intake low really hurts my feelings the most. Love those but I have been lessening them and may actually give them up altogether one day!
I'm aware ! Real informative !
Thank You Dr!
Does actual fruit lower testosterone?
Soy doesn't lower testosterone, that is proven factually and in practise.
Soy has phytoestrogen, a plant form of estrogen which actually inhibits estrogen binding in the body, so it lowers your estrogen.
I've eaten soy in forms of Tofu, soy milk, tvp and my bloodwork is always great!
Test is in high reference range always, E2 estradiol is always in mid reference range.
Don't know why talk bad about food that's been eaten for thousands of years?
Because he is a fraud.
Dr Ken berry is a absolute legend.. for 2 years I felt awful with chronic fatigue.. been on carnivor for 1 month now and already feel much better.. thanks for all your advice 👍👍👍
This information is very interesting. It’s time for another habit adjustment.
Damn, that sucks... *starts muching on soy and flax seeds and etc*
And..... how to do the opposite or reverse that ?
This is what I've read and seen many times
One last question, does cooking in a Teflon pan or a non-stick coated pan have any effect on testosterone? I'm not sure if it's a plastic or what that stuff is
He's not wrong. I've stayed away from all those foods for decades, have kept a low percent body fat, and have exercised regularly for the past 25 years. I'm 64 and my testosterone is about 950 nanogram/deciliter. And no, I don't have a Leydig cell tumor. Over the last 10 years my testosterone has declined 10%, as expected.
Exercise is the key. Not the absence of certain "foods".
yeah but , older peoples testo lvl'S actually higher than ours because it has been decreasing. I would say that you are very healthy person, and In my opinion as a 24 yo male, i dont even have half of your testo. Due to these things.
I just have to ask.... what do you eat and how is it normally prepared?
@@ljuc factually wrong comment, lots of foods can and will lower test
@@antiteros
I was addressing "have kept a low percent body fat, and have exercised regularly for the past 25 years" part.
Just picked up woman’s world magazine 😀my favorite Dr is on the cover!
Previously I drank almost nothing but coffee and diet soda. I have cut back, but still have a way to go before I am completely off it. I was diagnosed with low T a year ago but was not advised to cut these items out. Thanks for the heads up.
is coffee bad for testosterone?
Fermented foods, including fermented soy, are healthy. Natto is fermented soy. It’s an acquired taste but worth it
Great information, wow! Thanks Dr. Berry!
Thanks for the video! I'm at a point right now where I'm really trying to make adjustments to my diet, and after watching countless videos on foods that I never thought were too bad for me, I've began to open my eyes, and take the steps to converting to a wholesome diet.
What could be the alternative of soybean oil?
@@peterfromla7505 Lol anything is better than soybean oil, not least because it stinks when you cook something with it, but you should probably use coconut oil. It is saturated, solid and room temperature and the most stable when heated.
This video is very timely for me. Last week, a physicians assistant came to my gym and gave a talk to the men. He pushed expensive potions, pills and injections for low testosterone. I took his offered broshure detailing the costs. Diet was NEVER mentioned.
There is no profit in you changing your shopping list...
Just wondering, Doc...what is your opinion of using desiccated orchic tissue and liver (both bovine, grass-fed) to raise testosterone? I’m 63, and I am an avid weight-lifter as well. I follow a typical bodybuilder diet as laid out by the late, great “Iron Guru,” Vince Gironda.
Went right to the list on comments. Saved me time
Thank you Dr. Tony Kukoc
Dr Berry, could you please do a list of exactly what we should be getting blood tests for to make sure we are doing keto properly?
Is flaxseed oil bad for women if they are more estrogen dominant?
think it upsets the estrogen/testosterone balance in women....yep women need testosterone too. Don't add estrogen with plant foods or sugar.
These bad foods make women estrogen dominant and cause PCOs and fibroids and infertility...
If you estrigen dominant and you are adding more estrogen, then it is gonna increase your testosterone and you will grow facial hair and gain weight.
The beer Dr. Berry, that is the only one that really affects me. I do have low T, but I love my craft beer.
Richard, gonna have to make a choice if you wanna enjoy some action!
I'm a divil for the beer too 😶
@Mike why is vodka exempt from the rule?
@Mike Whiskey or flavored no-carb drinks like seltzers. Craft beers = buy yourself a bra.
@Mike "whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear..." ~Tom T. Hall [i like beer] song.
is there a difference between oats and grains? does eating oats have any effect on test?
Carbs of all sources via imflammation have a down regulation effect on test. Ie Eat Carbs, Test Go Low, But even if we limit carbs we live in a tocic society. And its mandatory to get blood work. and if your free test for a man is lower than 30ngdl iue 3% you need Test Replacement Therapy TRT.
Who is healthier Sylvester Stallone at 70 years old or Brian Stltzer at 40? Obviously the guy on testosterone.
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen about optimizing T-levels, very glad I found it
