This is my method for making strapless dresses with boned bodices. There's other ways to do it was well. You can either follow mine completely, or take the parts you like and combine them with other methods to make it work for you. Happy sewing!
Thank you for your help, so kind of you. I’m getting but old for fancy work these days but my grandchildren are asking for engagement party, and yr 12 formal outfits 😵💫. Of course they dont have patterns for me. This formal dress is pre knee operation needs to be done before end July. Boning never don’t that before, I found your part 1 just fantastic, it looks great, making my job heaps easier. It is a wonderful feeling being creative, providing not too many complications. I wish you well in your life’s venture. Best wishes .
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is so helpful and watching you work is a dream! I’ve watched so many tutorials that are either extremely boring or chaotic and riddled with error. I sincerely enjoyed watching this and it has made my own experience sewing much more pleasant!
Thank you so much. I try to keep my tutorials as informative and clear as possible (which isn't always easy when there's a lot of explaining to do!) so it's great to hear feedback like this 🙂
I love your sewing machine i remember my grandmother to that machine, i started to sew because of pandemic i really love your tutorial i learn a lot from you thank you. 😘😘😘😘
What interfacing did you use to line the bodice and bodice lining? Will using interfacing prevent a more form-fitting bodice from stretching along with the wearer’s breathing?
Thank you. Both ways of attaching the skirt work just as well. I tend to use this way most as it makes future alterations easier. Thanks for watching 💖
May i ask if you would keep the lining skirt and the main sequinned skirt if this dress had a slit in it. Im trying to imagine how you would compensate if client wanted a slit. Because i prefer lining especially with sequinned fabric too but i cant wrap my head around how you would do it.
Do you know where I can find this kind of tutorial but for a strapless straight across princess bodice? I am thinking of drafting one for my fashion project as a part of my dress
Super useful tutorial, thank you! One question: How would you add the boning if you wanted it to be visible? I'm planning to make a dress with a bodice that looks like a corset, and I'm not 100% sure how to execute it. My guess: I sew the boning or boning channels inside the top layer instead of the lining, so that stiched lines holding the boning in place are visible. Otherwise I do everything the same as you. Does that sound reasonable?
This was SO helpful and informative. Thank you! If you had a fairly weighty fabric on the outside like brocade, what kind of linings would you use on the inside, and boning layer? And would you still interface the boning layer? Thx!
Glad it was helpful. Even if your outside fabric is fairly heavy, you'll still need something heavier than a lining fabric for the inside layer as it needs to have the bones attached to it, so I would still interface the lining layer. Hope that helps
I'm working on releasing some digital patterns over the next few months, and this bodice pattern is one of them. In the mean time, most commercial pattern companies have strapless bodice patterns available.
I just use a regular needle and sew a little slower than normal. A slightly longer stitch can help too. Sewing boning can blunt your needle, so make sure you switch to a new one when you go back to sewing the fabric so it doesn't catch. I often keep older needles that switch in just for sewing the boning. Hope that helps. Have fun sewing the dress for your friend 🙂

Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial!
Ok this is the tutorial I been looking for! Ty
Very nicely explained, I tend to attach my skirt last but I will definitely try it in this order on my next dress! Love from orange county California!
Thank you. Both ways of attaching the skirt work just as well. I tend to use this way most as it makes future alterations easier. Thanks for watching 💖

Inspiring 👏✨👍
What interfacing are you using? It joins like a dream!
It's amazing stuff! I'll get the name next time I go to my local fabric shop
Thank you so much im from Algeria I love you so muchشكرا جزيلا
Thank you 🙂
What interfacing did you use? Clearly fusable, but how stiff?? Great video!
It was light weight, but medium would work too.
Lovely
Thank you 🙂
What size is the boning used and how much boning did this bodice require?
Are the pattern pieces and lining pieces the same size?
Please teach how to make the pattern bodice

Is there a specific needle required for boning... I haven't sewn for a long Time and I'm just about to attempt a dress for a drag queen friend.
I just use a regular needle and sew a little slower than normal. A slightly longer stitch can help too. So did you interface both layers of the black satin(front and lining)?
I did 🙂
Hello Vicky could you please tell me what number needle do you used to sew the regelene bones. Thank you so much
I usually use either a 14/90 or 12/80
Where can I watch the strapless pattern?
You can use these instructions to make any strapless dress pattern. Most commercial pattern companies should have something suitable.
Can u tell us about the details of the fabric
I used polyester satin, a woven interfacing, lining fabric, sequin fabric and tulle.
Where is part 2?
