This is an excellent device. Those pictures are incredible. As for mainstream, Sony tried that in the past but it wasn't very successful so they now focus on the niche video/photo/audio users. And that's ok because it means it masters those things and isn't trying to compete with Samsung, apple, OnePlus etc. If you want mainstream, get Samsung Galaxy S series. But if you are pro photographer/videographer who wants the absolute best picture and most control, get the Sony.

I think the Xperia 5 V is the most complete phone you can find i have this phone and i s outstanding it is very practical to use and the design is also excellent . But what is ifen more importent is that outstanding batterylife . And then the Photo pro and video pro apps their very usefull with all that manuell controlls also the cinema pro app . I think the Xperia 5 V is very essay to use .
I agree with the telelens, they should have added 80mm or so. For the rest sony phone are hardware wise almost perfect. They shouldnt change much about it. What i do think they should change much about it is the software. and they mostly in user friendlines. 1. Make it so that the basic photo mode while having burst mode on that you can still use the physical shutter button to make single shots (not possibly at the moment i think). in that way if there is like a small half second delay before it jumps into burst mode you can easely make single shots and use burst mode while just holding the physical shutter button, missed mistake in my opinion for such a nice button. 2. Make seemless zoom able to also jump to selfie camera while recorrding a video, super usefull for social media posts. 3. exception button/toggle for the gps/navigation/google maps in the battery saving modes so this way when you are on holiday for example and you gonna roam around a city and you need gps you have best battery life and can navigate. For the rest minor changes are wishfull but i think 3 these will greatly improve the usage of their phones. Photo's are in general amazing so dont play to much with ai processing or whatever. And i am saying this from a sony xperia 5ii long time user.
Bezel is not te most important thing. I bought one, and then found out that it doesn't have a notification led, and it's top heavy, so it's actually difficult to use it with one hand because you're not very mobile because it tends to flip when you try to adjust your thumb. I don't like a button on the back, and don't like to use my pinky to hold it because with a lot of use it hurts my wrist. Almost all reviewers just talk about features and maybe compare battery life or photo quality. I feel annoyed by that. I mean you don't have to tell me IP and headphone jack, etc. I can read that from the specs on the Sony page.
I bought this one after my 5 II died, my 5 V broke after 3 days of use. The 5 II also needed to be repaired under warranty for issues with the modem. Plus the screen still has the exact same ghosting issues on the new one, probably the exact same panel. You lose a camera, STILL have only 128GB of storage for 1000 bucks and Sony tends to abandon their devices after a couple years. With all those limitations and 100% failure rate between 2 Xperia phones, Sony is off the table for phones.
I know it's personal choice, but after having used many different phones with many different selfie camera options : this one is the least favorite for me 😅 I really enjoyed a cutout but not in the middle (OPPO Reno 6 pro) or the hidden camera in Xiaomi 9t. But now having Xiaomi 13t pro as my daily driver - I've gotten used to having it in the middle and totally works fine 👌

I was wachting your video on my Xperia 1VI which have now i got it on wensday. I also have the 5V my son use it alot. Their is one thing that you may like or dislike and that is the new aspect ratio on Xperia 1VI ya is much wider then its predessor and i think when Sony may launch the Xperia 5VI later this year it may will have the same aspect ratio and farther down the line Sony has noe everything in one camera app intigretet their is no more cinema pro or videography pro everything in the new camera app is now more streamlined even for the average user video pro wil come later with software update. So i guess the 5VI will be a very diffrent phone. It can also happen that they will launch the Xperia Pro-C whit a 6 inch screen it this floating an webb.
I am searching for it to get one, but almost every store shows this as not on stock, come on. ts just a joke that I cannot purchase a phone which has been released exactly a year ago?
Thank You! Keep in mind the Xperia has a "specific" aspect ratio, in it being narrow and tall. So if You want something that feels and looks more "next gen" than Honor / Oneplus might be better. But at the end of the day it's personal preference what You like more. (other than specifications and price)
I think OnePlus 12 and Xiaomi 14 are both about the same, but the biggest factor - compact/smaller phone vs much bigger. Xiaomi 14 is much smaller than the OnePlus 12, so if You prefer bigger phones with bigger screen - OnePlus 12, If You prefer something more compact, and smaller - definitely Xiaomi 14 😄

Actually the bezels look big compared to my sony 5 II from 2020... That's what flat sides can do and actually looking closer at it the sides borders of the screen itself are bigger as well, weird... Kinda makes me reconsider buying it
Personally for me it looks a bit outdated compared to the competition. (Visually) It would be amazing if it it had its hardware and advantages but in a more "modern" looking body with smaller bazels 🫣

The 10 V is rubbish compared to this. 120fps in 4K is pretty impressive. 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res audio is no big deal, even my HTC 10 had that 8 years ago & the worlds 1st OIS on both the front & rear cameras.
Fell for the hype, so here are my honest thoughts: Great photo camera Mid video camera So-so phone, you can def get a more customizable Android device. Speakers are plain bad, boxed in sounding. TERRIBLE HEAT MANAGEMENT, recording a 5 min video or multitasking makes it heat up like a b*tch And the screen somehow gives me headaches if I"doomscrool"for a while, something my S23 does not
Nobody will buy this phone, an overpriced downgrade from 5III/IV, Sony shot themselves in the foot. Pro tip: next time try to show the phone, not yourself waving the phone the whole time.
I mean, there is a reason all smartphones, TVs and tablets are getting smaller bezels. The device looks and feels more premium and new, while bigger bezels tend to make the device look and feel much older.
I'm not focusing on specs alone as anyone can read the spec sheet 😅 Visuals, build quality and overall usability is what 90% of people will focus on when getting a smartphone. At least for me (and it seems that many others too) just talking about 3 more frames in a certain game is not something that they will base their opinion on. Anyway there are many other videos for You to watch about this phone so there are plenty of sources You can watch/read from about it. But thanks for feedback 😄
I wish people would stop shaming bezels... Bezels make the phone easier to use in the hand. One of the biggest things I miss in modern phones.
Sony always makes great looking phones. My concern is the number of OS and Security updates.

The bigger side bezels than before are a bummer. I don't mind the top and bottom, but the side bezels shouldn't be increased.

If bezels are such a big problem for you, just stay away from sony smartphones. As simple as that.
