Well done, Sir! I would have eventually collapsed from back strain, from the looks of the bone jarring road/trail surface on the way to the Hole in the Wall. I suffered a crushed L-5 in a bike wreck in 1983.
I have a bad back too from desert racing. Strange as it my sound, that Ural tractor seat is amazing. The ride that day was around 13 hours with 4 of them pounding off-road, but I survived just fine!
@@Uraljunkie I have the 2/3 seat on my GU and after 4-5 hours (pavement) I'm saddle sore! I'm looking into finding an old style Harley seat and making a mounting bracket for it.
@@tn_bayouwulf2949 Have HD Cop seats on my Retros and had one my Gear Up too. Tried the bench (OUCH) and the 2/3 (ouch), went back to the HD. Yeah their big, but when you sit on the makes anyone's butt look small...comfy too...bracket not hard to make. Basically an old seat with the arms cot off, plate welded in the middle and bolt the HD T bracket to it. GoneUraling has a nice fancy bracket that does not use the Ural one at all. Good luck and keep riding.
Well done Alan. You should be very proud of your solo achievement and your recording of it. So many places with great similarity to OZ outback locations. Congratulations.
Thank you, Harry! Yeah.. you have a beautiful country with lots of cool places. One of the few places I have not been to but very much wanted to. Thanks again!!!!!!
@@Uraljunkie We were lucky enough to visit the US, including Hawaii, Vegas, Seattle into Alaska about 9 months prior to Covid. Very lucky we did it then. Pretty sure you will fit right in over here. Good stuff , looks like a real adventure on those roads 👍 You will have to give us a report on how the bike went , did you need extra fuel , what did you need and what didn’t you need to carry 👍
WeIl, the trip was about 1350 miles overall, with lots and lots of rough dirt roads. The Ural worked great with zero problems. The only failure I had was a GoPro mount that just broke in half due to the bad roads... I looked down and the camera was riding on top of the cylinder! Although I had three extra 10L gas cans, the most I used was two on one of the legs. So gas... no problem. I used my camping stuff and food, although one night I was so beat, I didn't eat and just slept on the ground. My cooler came in handy, and I filled it with ice whenever I stopped for gas. One thing that did come in handy was a cooling towel (those towels that cool you down through evaporation). I used it on three occasions in the afternoon heat, and without it, I think I would still be lying by the side of the trail down there. Very good thing I had it lying around. I didn't use my cold weather gear, but if I hadn't taken it, there would have been a freak snow storm with freezing temperatures. The only other thing that broke was my air mattress, which was flat the entire trip, but no big deal since I was so tired by the end of the day. All in all, I was pretty well prepared. Again, no problems at all with the Ural. If I had to do it all over again, I would have taken my cooling vest for the afternoons and packed some extra water in the boot for it. I used everything I took with except for a lightweight tarp (and the cold weather clothes), which I forgot the poles for anyway.
@@edwardferguson.lasvegasnev1612 For sure. I would like to see how you mounted it, especially the way the springs are held onto the seat plate. You can send them to uraljunkie@gmail.com if you have some laying around… thanks!
@@Uraljunkie I've seen them on RUclips.Perhaps the factory installs them individually at the request of a retailer who sells in a hot climate. But the video was definitely for the 2021 release year .
I have seen oil coolers installed by dealers, which are attached to the sidecar and have a little pump spacer under the oil filter... they are quite big and take up a lot of room.

Yeah… when it rains…😬 Actually there are some springs around. Simpson Springs (which I need to look for the actual spring) and up in the mountain that I rode around is Indian Springs which I have driven through but not tried the water. I may go back there this spring and do some exploring…
Loved the ride, looks like a great trip. Safe travels! Great videos, thank you 🙏.

Thanks! I agree with the comms. I used my Inreach mini everyday to let the family know I was ok.

Is it better than the stock tractor seat?

Hey, old man .I see you riding on hot deserts .Have you thought about installing an intercooler under the oil as on the new Ural models?
The new models have an oil cooler? I cannot find any info on that…
