INFJ here! The thougth exercise was well done and accurate. I would just add, that its not just blind imagination, Ni is using clues as patterns, so the girl would be imagining a scene based on visual cues in the area. She wouldpprobably be imagining those rock creatures on the other side (based on the statues outside by the road). She would probably be questioning whether the father is capable of handling any dangerous encounters with these rock creatures. She might be thinking of what is the safest action would be: staying quiet, befriending the creatures, or leaving, and she would create visual scenarios/conversations or actions for each situation. I don't know if an INTJ would have a different approach, but I think it is important to clarify that these scenarious begin with sensory input and/or previous patterns. If she had had prior experience with a cave, that would factor into how she visualizes what is on the other side. In general, the best example of Ni that I have seen in film is the "reality vs expectation" scene in "500 days of Summer."

We need a video on Ni vs Si, these functions are both "preparing for the future" functions imo they get mistaken more often then Ni vs ne or se vs Si
I also agree a video on Ni and Si would be great since they both prepare for the future but in different ways.
Simple explanation
Ni prepares for the future (optimistic approach, but lacks spontaneity to deal with sudden changes, so they are heavily into organizing skills and introspection to get things done in order to have a clearer mind when they have to eventually move forward, which they want to do to reach their goals - there's an intrinsic need for optimization which goes hand in hand with change)
Si prepares against the future (pessimistic approach towards the future, but doesn't lack spontaneity when they would have to adapt to sudden changes due to them being sensor types, but they do not like it either, because they prefer to be comptetent based on their previously learned experiences - there's an intrinsic need for predictability in order to stay functioning and feeling confident in their own skills which goes hand in hand with sameness or keeping up the status quo)
Very interesting! I have Ni as my first function, and rather than visualizing a particular future, I’m usually visualizing multiple potential futures, then trying to place them within the context of a probability distribution. If I hit on one that I really like or don’t like, (FI), I try to work backwards from that future and take whatever actions are necessary right now to either increase or decrease the probability of that future, and sort of play around with the shape of the probability spectrum. I think the first two Terminator movies, particularly the Sarah Connor character in Terminator 2, provide a good perspective of how this process feels/works.
The thought exercise was so hard as an Ne dom (ENTP). I couldn't flesh out ONE world on the other side of the door. I could imagine several dozen loose ideas for what the world could look like but when I tried to flesh each one of them out, my brain hated the idea of only being stuck with one option and I would jump to something else:
"What if it's an frozen world plagued by a never ending winter! Okay brain, let's really try to imagine the ice sculptures... nah TOO BORING WHAT IF INSTEAD OF AN ICE WORLD IT WAS A CITY INHABITED BY HACK COMEDIANS THAT ONLY MAKE PROBLEMATIC JOKES. Okay, let's try to imagine the jokes they tell... NOPE BORED AGAIN, WHAT IF IT'S A MOON PLANET BUT ONLY SKATEBOARDING LESBIANS LIVE THERE!!".
I also had a hard time imagining just being present in the car - my mind immediately went to thinking about the creative process that the animators had in mind.
Anyways, this was super interesting and a fun thought experiment!

It was an easy exercise for me to follow but I had probably as much fun reading about all the places where YOUR mind went, woaww...!!

Although, I can see & value how it could actually be valuable to imagine more than one world in that situation in order to get ready for what's coming, so I would use it if...
OMG, imagine the two of us in that tunnel, 😂 sharing thoughts "out loud" (Or with some sort of screen showing the inside of our minds, with subtitles. Because, NO WAY I'd be able to voice that Ni thing...)
Well, I'd probably stare at you, hyper focus, amazed that you can have so many SO different ideas flowing (I love Ne!!) and I'd be selecting all the ideas from each world you mention that I find interesting - or, in a scary situation, the most probable ones in my opinion - and from there, build that ONE absolutely crazy world packed with what I picture + ideas of yours 😳
It would still have to remain ONE world but, WAO, this picture would end up with an insane variety of elements to it !! ^^ (So ready 😂)
Although, there is no way I'd ever even think of getting bored of that picture! There's work behind it that includes all my "Se observations" of the surroundings for the past few hours, so, it's like, once I start, I can't decide to just give up on what's been built already, that's what my intuition has decided was the "best option" & I stick to it.
Well, until some elements are proven wrong by a new appearing reality, then I adapt the image to build based on that... (Does it ever stop??😂) But, I want, need and will dig deep, that's the fun for me, give shape and details to that image. What I would find boring is NOT to do so actually... ^^

Possible ISFP here! I liked the thought exercise so much that I did it.
I narrowed down to imagining a hotel in a forest near a river with a beautiful scenery.
The wind was blowing, birds were chirping and I could hear the sound of the river in the distance.
The guessing of what’s on the other side of the tunnel is a great example of speculation!
I noticed it’s really similar to what I do when thinking of drawing/ painting.
