We saw James Wood play in Syracuse last weekend and he was just late on a fastball that he slapped down the left field line and he gave the biggest smile and licked his chops waiting for that pitch again. My girlfriend immediately said, "Oh he's gonna be great with that attitude!". Hope all the best for him, just not against the Mets!
Speaking of the Clevinger trade, you mentioned that player to be named later in the deal... that player was Matt Waldron going from Cleveland to SD. Kind of colors the perspective on that trade differently now.
soto extension with the padres fell off when the owner peter seidler died, he was the guy signing the big checks, even boras said that the owner told him that he wanted soto to stay
The Clevinger trade didn't "blow up" on San Diego. Sure, Naylor is the man, but Matt Waldron was the player to be named later. Cleveland sure would like him right about now.....
As a Padres fan, i dont regret the trade for Soto at all. It hasnt worked out yet, but at least now we have an ownership group doing what they can to win it all. It's still a trip that Darvish is a Padre.
13:49 this is pretty interesting too but we could what if a lot of Padres trades to death tbh. I think AJ reloads his talent pool in the draft and based off what needs he covers in that, he'll put together a few potential packages for the trade deadline.
That Soto trade was sad to see but it was the right move especially after seeing what happened to Strasburg. They have a great upcoming team. I am going to put money on them next year to make the playoffs.
As a Mariners fan I am petrified! We are bottom 5 in every offensive statistical category and dead last in BA .218 I mean cmon! We have a shot to make a deep run in the playoffs. I’m just tired of all these fineness/savant moves on offense. Let’s get management to spend some money and get a bona fide star in the order. At least getting cano back in the day showed me they were at least trying
Because ownership wasn't trying to win like they are now. That's all I at least wanted. Every player that even looked like they would be good got traded. Giants, Dodgers and Yankees aren't selling out every game if they had the records the Padres had over the years.
Its so hard to grade the padres trading because they continued to move pieces and keep trading. Seems like they do a good job of getting some talent to stay relevant
Unless the cubs go on a crazy run, which I don't think will happen nor do I really want it to happen since I think they're ultimately not very good, they'll sell at least an outfielder and maybe two. I'd also like to see them trade Taillon while he's pitching well. Nico has underperformed lately so if they sell him, a real possibility, it would be for cheap. They should sell. They need to get some of these contracts off the books so they can build around these prospects
The Mets are such a funny team to watch. A top 5 offense in MLB, an average rotation, and a horrific bullpen. If they could add even 1-2 solid bullpen arms they'll be a playoff team.
Rosey, you were asking earlier in the season about whether the Astros would sell Bregman, Framber and Tucker… because it’s an interesting thought experiment, not because it was actually likely to happen. As an Astros fan it always sounded crazy to me.
So I don’t know if I will be the difference in anything, but when the Astros were 12-24 Chris is absolutely right that he had basically declared the Astros dead… their streak was over yadda yadda yadda… BUT, I also remember Trevor saying that he didn’t feel that he could give up on the Astros, and that they weren’t really that far behind for as bad as they had been… and if anyone could do it , the Astros were the team…
Houston still not healthy. Tucker, Verlander, Garcia and McCullers on the IL. Sucks that Javier and Urquidy not coming back but hopefully the rotation gets settled in July and August.
it's a pro and a con because other teams will probably give our prospects a better shot in terms of value in order to convince them the trade is good. Even getting our mid tier ranked guys.
Not defending the trade for Kelenic, but the Ms dumped $20 mil+ in salary. Used that money for Garver and Polanco. Someone should tell Plouffe just how teams without money (sadly) operate
Mariners were THE most profitable MLB team last season. Stop acting like the M’s are some poverty franchise. They have money, they’d just rather line their pockets or do yet another stadium renovation than spend that profit on players.
@@bentley230 would LOVE for the Ms to spend! I blame ownership 100% for the shortcomings! Just pointing out for the GM it’s not as simple as “dumping a bat for 2 (bad) arms”.
As a padres fan, I regretted that trade as soon as they did it. Wouldn’t have to spend on Xander. Idk The team woulda been better off long term and currently
@@joshy.josh.11 The Padres went from a top 3 payroll to under the CBT in 1 year because of their debt and losing their TV deal. The MLB gave the Padres 40M of the 50M lost on the lack of TV deal for 1 year, had record attendance, and still lost money. The MLB isn't giving them 40M this year and attendance is down slightly. The Machado, Bogaerts, Musgrove, and Darvish deals are only going to get worse too. This is why when they spent all that money people were apprehensive.
Yes the Padres 100% regret the Soto trade because it set off a long chain of events that are going to lead to their team being terrible for a decade plus. They got rid of 3 really good young cheap players in Abrams, Gore, and Wood. Abrams and Gore alone were worth more than the 1.5 years they got from Soto. Trading Wood too makes that trade terrible. That deal also made them trade so many other prospects and make large signings like just to keep their championship window alive. The offseason after the Soto trade they extended Machado and signed Bogaerts which are the 2 worst contracts in the MLB right now. When trading Soto to the Yankees they only really got 1 decent starter in King for 2 years, a decent backup catcher for 1 year, and one really good prospect in Thorpe. They shipped out Thorpe plus more out for Cease who has a 4.24 ERA this year which is looking like another bad trade. They traded even more prospects for Arraez and are looking to trade even more prospects at the deadline too and will further trade more prospects. Next offseason Padres have very little money to spend in FA after committing so much money to Machado, Bogaerts, Tatis, Musgrove, Darvish, and Crone. This combined with the fact Arraez, King, Cease, Suarez, Profar, and Higgy are all FAs within 2 years is going to be a disaster for the Padres.
How can people even say that right now? Padres were a game away from going to the WS with Bell and Soto being massive contributors... CJ Abrams has a .723 OPS in 295 games lol and is rated defensively as one of the worst SS in the game. Gore has a 4.50 ERA in 48 games for them. James Wood (its early) but a brutal start to his MLB career as well. What has Luke Voit, Jarlin Susana, Robert Hassell done for the NATS?
Rosey, you were asking earlier in the season about whether the Astros would sell Bregman, Framber and Tucker… because it’s an interesting thought experiment, not because it was actually likely to happen. As an Astros fan it always sounded like crazy talk to me.

If they don't give 2 horrible contracts to Machado and Bogaerts then they would have had the money. Seidler was the reason they couldn't extend him.

soto has always wanted to goto free agency not sure why for years all we talk about is extension.
Decent take on the Padres
Rose calling E5 at the start is already giving me a good laugh.

Gonna be hard to convince them to do that after giving JRod over $200 mil. He looks horrible this year.
I’ve decided to pay attention to Abrams playing short for Trevor’s sake this series. He had one awesome play and one costly routine error lol
Before the Padres were good, Petco used to be about 70% Giants fans, 15 % Padres fans, and 15% empty seats lol
Facts lol
15% dodgers fans lol

Never seen a giant fan down here
Its so hard to grade the padres trading because they continued to move pieces and keep trading. Seems like they do a good job of getting some talent to stay relevant
Chris makes great points, but as a padres fan, I have to thank Trevor for making me feel better about giving up those top prospects for soto
Padres Got Waldron in that trade and he’s a nasty 5th pitcher 😉
lol no, scouting is easy for AJ preller, they’ll reload

Alright Yadi in the Cubs gear is fucking cursed

With as bad as Juan Soto is in the outfield I don’t understand how his OPS is always high, rigging for NYY
Fielding metrics doesn't affect ops...
i don't think you understand how OPS works. i would suggest google.
Padres aren't concerned about soto, dude doesnt have true stats lmao he plays in a college stadium 😂
Soto’s stats this season are better away than at home
Mariners could use kelenic rn
Houston still not healthy. Tucker, Verlander, Garcia and McCullers on the IL. Sucks that Javier and Urquidy not coming back but hopefully the rotation gets settled in July and August.

Yes he’s an overrated clown
I dont love the dressing up. Attention seeking behavior rubs me the wrong way
