Never expected this to get over 1.2 Million views over a year later. I just wanna say that yes, Ultraman is a franchise with very (intentionally) silly moments, but it's important to note that it's also a very likable and earnest one. All these years later, it endures as a great tokusatsu series because it's not afraid to continue using practical effects and suitmation, which gives it a charm that just couldn't be matched if it was given the same Hollywood treatment as Godzilla (and it can look very impressive too!). It's a special series to me for a number of reasons, and I hope these videos inspire people to check it out and join me in this rabbit hole.

Ultraman to this day stands to be my favourite Toku series! From the old and campy 1966 one... to the new and campy ones of the present. But no matter how campy, the shows never really feel uninspired. Say what you want about the New Gen, but even if they had similar gimmicks they don't mesh into one being(which is ironic, considering they DO mesh into one being. That being Reiga). Each new Gen Ultraman never fails to be thematically different from one another. Nor do they fall into the brooding hero trope that is prevalent in quite a lot of other Toku shows(usually the side hero). I'm actually slightly annoyed that no matter where i go in toku there seems to be a brooding side hero. The exception being most ultraman shows. Everyone's usually a chipper dude or gal or alien bro or whatnot. Which I will say makes it fun! The villains of Ultraman are also pretty awesome! The cunning intelligence of Mephillas(bar Mephillas II), pure evil manifested in the plot of Gatanazoa, the weird weirdness of Bullton, Baltan(in general), the absolutely terrifying Space Beasts, the deranged Ultraman Jack Fanboy, Mashowa fordedwa(no offense, Mashowa). The list goes on and on for the villains of the Ultraman series! That doesn't mean it doesn't have faults, though. Ultraman has solid ideas in most of the episodes, amazing executions for those episodes! But it also has some less enticing episodes like the mummy one.It's been years since I've watched that one and I still have no clue what even went on there. Ultraseven... is just GOATED. Return of Ultraman, while pretty good, started falling off nearing the mid-end. Particularly after Ultraman Dies at Sunset. Return of Ultraman did indeed have really awesome episodes, but some were really... repetitive? Ace has its merits! That being, it's an awesome show! That being said, Jirou barely even plays a part in the series when he gets introduced(other than being an absolute punk). Much less attempt to replace Minami. Taro is devillishly fun! But makes absolutely no sense. Leo is... a bit depressing at times. 80 feels REALLY slow at the very beginning. Basically nothing happens in the first couple of episodes. I do like 80 though. And...I just realised I went on a rant about Ultraman. Whoops

Sad to see most guys here just talk about how silly this is. I was expecting people sharing their childhoods. Such "low budget monster fight" makes an important part of my childhood.
@IAN HEINE It actually wasn't made with low budget back in the 60s, mind you that Japan just started producing colored TV back in 1960, and Ultraman came out only 6 years after that. Tsuburaya made sure the show itself is fit for the colored TV standards so they put a lot of effort to make it. They even spent lots of money to buy an optical printer for the special effects. It was worth at least $700,000 by today's currency rate and back then only Tsuburaya and freaking Disney owned it.
Ultraman wasn't a part of my childhood, but as I watch this show, a strange and possibly long-forgotten memory of something from the time when I was very little emerges in my mind. It's almost like something from the past life, and image of old CRT TV standing by the corner of living room and 6-year old me in front of it, watching evening programs. This show obviously had a lot of heart put into it, despite all the production limits the team had to deal with. It's truly phenomenal and even if not's tied to me in any nostalgic way, I can't feel anything but respect for it.

I was not prepared for Alien Zarab's voice when I first watched the episode. I was so used to Showa-era aliens having a deep, booming voice (even Ultraman himself had that in the original series in the rare instances of him speaking) that I wasn't expecting this fellow to talk so casually.
Are you sure? I was born in around 2000 - 2009 and i loved this series so much the masterpiece vibe is emitting around me, and this show is fantastic despite my tv being so damn crappy back then 😅

Ultraman does not have the real estate it used to in the minds of children. Also with the improvement in CG, a lot of these older shows might not be suited to the tastes of a younger audience.

I was not prepared for Alien Zarab's voice when I first watched the episode. I was so used to Showa-era aliens having a deep, booming voice (even Ultraman himself had that in the original series in the rare instances of him speaking) that I wasn't expecting this fellow to talk so casually.
And Zarab have the Suit Actor voiced him too,which is also rare
I always loved the original. This one gave me lots of nostalgia. I loved how bizzare it was.

@@leobe2104 Not so much about feeling special, rather what is hot has changed. Kids in China these days are unsurprisingly obsessed with Marvel movies. Ultraman does not have the real estate it used to in the minds of children. Also with the improvement in CG, a lot of these older shows might not be suited to the tastes of a younger audience.

It's because *Eiji Tsuburaya* worked for Toho with the Godzilla crew so he used one of *Godzilla's* suit to create *Jirass* 0:41 and *Mothra's* sound for *Dodongo* and also *King Ghidorah's* sounds for this part 0:34 and 1:46.
