In the olden days the empress’s were fully aware by the fact that the emperor’s will have many mistresses. They were often thought how to act in those situations. However nowadays I think it is absolutely disgusting for the king to have a mistress and openly cheat on her in front of everyone. My heart goes out to the queen and even the mistress who have to to endure such things.

She's the first consort in over a century. King Rama X's father, grandfather, and uncle had no consort, and in fact, polygamy has been illegal in Thailand for a very long time. Only in recent years has King Rama X decided to bring back this law to legally own a mistress.
