My 2024 cx5 was doing this as well, flare between 2/3 upshift only when cold typically the first few upshifts then it was fine. Turned out a simple software fix was put out in a service bulletin. Dealer updated the software in the TCM, haven’t had an issue since.
All new Mazda automatic transmissions go through a "learning" phase via an adaption software and it takes approx 2,000-4,000KM's here in Australia. The transmissions in 2024 Mazda's are excellent quality and well engineered however they are a "Hybrid" in so far as they use a manual clutch pack instead of a fluid torque converter. If you buy one new and don't know this the transmission software will take a dislike to your "driving style" and behave rather erratically and if this continues it can shutdown or go into limp mode. Either way a CX-5 is a HEAVY vehicle at 1,700 Kg's.
Nissan CVT’s are junk. The only CVT’s I trust are either Subaru or Toyota. If you want a small SUV with a good transmission go with Mazda it has a six speed transmission which is rock solid.
@Arctic5fox well part of having an emergency fund is to able to cover a car purchase. Who says you need a new car. You can get a used beater while you save. 6mo to 1yr of pay should be emergency fund.
I was thinking about a Mazda but bought a basic Cadillac XT4 two years ago. It's been flawless. That being said, I drained and filled the 9 speed trans fluid (5 quarts Dex 6) and it was discolored at 21,000 miles. These multi-speed transmissions (CVTs too), esp. with low and ultra low visc. fluid, are extremely hard on the fluid and need to be serviced more frequently unless you're trading the car before 100K or so miles. I really liked Mazda but decided that GM parts are generally cheaper and more widely available in the US. I plan on keeping my car for a long time now I'm semi-retired.
We have 3 cx 5. 350,000 , 245,000 and currently 98,000 km .no transmission problem with either. All manufactures can have a lemon including Toyota, Honda
Cx5 transmission is flawless! This was a fluke. I have a 2022 cx5 with 35 thousand miles in it. Smooth as molasses! Best car i ever owned, before this i had a rav4 for 15 years. This is better!
This is what happen to my 2023 chevy trailblazer dealership had mu car for an month an didnt want to give me an loaner till called complaining about inconvenience and poor communication on there side.
How much is the monthly cost to lease a CX5? I was considering to purchase one, but not if there is a problem with the transmission. And this vehicle is made in Japan! Sad. Thanks, BTW.
Having inventory on hand is not good. Any company wants to have the minimum possible inventory on hand. That's money that could be invested or used in other ways.
All of the manufacturers are the same. If it is a safety issue such as steering, get the governments safety people to have a investigation.

Thanks you so much for putting this video with all this info ABOUT MAZDA. As I was thinking of getting myself a cx5. BUT oh NO. NOT getting anything from Mazda AT ALL EVER. Your cx5 did not even make a yr and is already giving your issues. WHY would anyone want to buy from this mfg still? NOT me!!! I going with maybe the Toyota or some one else.

Glad your TCM was update-able. My 1st two were not.

JIT (just in time) inventory management. Works well until there's a natural or man made disaster.
My friend just changed his CVT transmission on a Nissan Altima 2016. $5K out of his pocket.

I had a 2016 nissan rogue. If the bill came to 5k, i would've junked the car. I just got rid of my rogue due to the pending transmission issue.

i'm a 2024 cx5 owner too. please show us the tachometer of the difference between new and old transmission . thanks a lot! thanks for your video!
How many miles were on the old transmission? Nice job with the video. Thanks for sharing the information.
The issue started at 400 miles.
@@VacLab Ok, so it was a factory fault. Easy fix. Take it back to the dealership and have it repaired or replaced.
@@theaustralianconundrum you're behind on this series. It took 4 months and 2 transmissions to get it fixed.

Yup. Many others have reported similar issues in this video series.

I have a 2025 cx5 select. When coming to a stop I hear I faint clunk sound, also when feathering the gad peddle at 15 to 20 mph. Is this normal?
No, it's not normal. Take it in for service. You'll have to prove the issue exists though.

This was just a software issue. Quick update solves this
