This was a great demonstration. Being deaf, I couldn't get the recommendations - just see how they looked in action. It was very helpful. I wish I could read what you said about each of them, though. Thanks again, --Maggie
Tap the video. Top right corner you see three dots. Tap those. You see captions. My brother is Deaf so I understand in depth instructions. Not trying to be mean.
I have also noticed that the TYPE of paper really affects how certain colored pencils work. There is some paper where my cheap pencils work amazing and my expensive pencils don't work well and then there is some paper where my expensive pencils work better and my cheap pencils perform poorly. It really depends on the paper more than anything else. The paper in this particular coloring book is very shiny and smooth so it tends to make the color look a lot more diluted. It has more to do with the paper and less to do with the pencils themselves.....
yeh, it true. And color have different quality even they are from the same brand. My marco have some colors are very nice while some colors just bad :))).
This is very true. There are some books i wouldn't touch with Prisma's because the lay down is just so frustrating, other books i love using my student quality pencils with. It does come down to paper quality.
Hi! You may want to prime your papers with a transparent gesso such as these, for example amzn.to/2bxULDH or these amzn.to/2bsDY2H, amzn.to/2ceNf0j By using gesso you get more benefits than with the best of papers and you can even color on it with oil colors. So possibilities are limitless and you get wonderful results now matter the paper :). All artists prime their canvases too anyway, for better durability. Hope this helps. Maybe you would like to also have a look at my new fantasy colouring book for all ages, “The Five Magic Realms”, just released on Amazon amzn.to/2aN5M1K. The original Romanian version, with my autograph, can also be ordered via e-mail: gizella_popescu@yahoo.com
I love my Raffiné pencils because my aunt got them for me and I love her so much. It's a souvenir from Vietnam. Even if I upgrade to better ones, I will use them occasionally.
Usually people would just do swatches but you did a coloring with the different brands of coloring pencils which I find really helpful. Thank you! Keep up the good work ^^
Peta --- Thank you for your video on the different brands of colored pencils. It was a real eye-opener for me. This reminds me of painters who either love working with oil or those who love working with acrylic. I happened to like both the Prisma Color Pencils and the Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils. I could see the blending abilities of both pencils, right away. I am new to using colored pencils. Yes, I have used them throughout my lifetime, but, not with the new coloring books for adults. I loved your coloring example of all the pencils you talked about. I could see the difference and when you were done the picture looked amazing. What this video did for me, since, I am just beginning to start doing adult coloring, helped me to decided which pencils to start with. I think, I will start with the Crayola Colored Pencils. I think, for the price and my little experience in this adventure, I feel this is the right choice for me, at this time. I need to find out, whether or not I am going to enjoy doing adult coloring books. :) Peta, you have inspired me. Again, thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for such a great review of the various pencils available in the market. I just started coloring again just a few months ago...I had no idea there was such a thing as adult coloring books. My husband had actually heard about them and bought a couple of books as a surprise. As I was researching the available options for coloring media...I realized I had a much more daunting task of choosing which pencils I should purchase...it could be quite overwhelming to the beginner colorist. I so wish I had found your You Tube site sooner. I just purchased the Polychromos this past Friday...and your review was spot on. I have terrible arthritis in both of my hands and my hand just did not get tired nor was it sore after using the new pencils. You are amazing and so talented. Again, thanks for such a great video.
I am a 16 year old artist, and I was searching all over the Internet to find videos on comparing color pencils by there quality. finally now I know what color pencils to buy. thank you so much for the help😁✍
thank you so much for taking the stress out of figuring what each set of pencils will look like, this was a huge help and I truly appreciate your time and knowledge for beginners like me!
Those older derwent artists are softer, more opaque and more pigmented than the new green barrel ones, although they come in a set of 120 now, and the additional colours are amazing :)
This is the most helpful video I have ever seen for choosing color pencils. Thank you so much! I now know what set I will purchase first and what sets I will add in eventually:) Who knew my childhood crayola did so well in comparison, thanks again.
so glad that the Marco Raffine are good ones, becouse I just order my a set of them with 48 colors .plus I know thaw can I'm also pick up some Crayola ones since their my favorite to color with .
First I want to thank you Peta for a comprehensive well done video. This was tremendously informative to anyone wondering about choosing colored pencil geared to adult coloring books and not just artists. Your style and information was fantastic!! i look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work!!
So informative on all the differences in the different pencils . I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video from start to finish and will now be able to choose the pencils for me. My personal favorite was the Micador set. Your shading technique was a very big help to me. Thank you for a great video.
This video was amazing Peta! Thank you for all your hard work. I own almost all of these except for the no name, micador and Raffines and I agree that the FC Polychromos are the best. They lay down color so beautifully with hardly any pressure, and no wax risidue like the Prismacolor Premier. I just love the Polychromos so much! Worth every penny!
Cause they work better. Have you tried 7+ layers with crayola it just doesn't happen. Though ignoring the lightfast problems Derwent is also nice not quite the same level but close.
What a lovely way to review pencils. I have a mandala coloring book but haven't been inspired to try it until now. I thought it amazing that you were able to keep track of just the right spots for the colors each time you switched pencils. It was a great look at the different kinds of pencils. Thank you 🌹
This was the first colored pencil video review that I watched when I started my adult coloring journey. I ended up splurging on the Polychromos and have loved them ever since!
+Danny Nguyen you wont be disappointed. especially for $20! just have to print off a colour template for them as some.of the ends f the pencil.colours look the same.but the colours are very different
I'm a little newer to actual art and I was wondering and debating between the Polychromos and the Prismacolors. This helped to clear up which is better for me. Thanks Peta!
Thank you Peta! I've gotten into adult coloring and have been going bananas trying to figure out what colored pencils would work for me. I started coloring using Crayola and then bought Prismacolor Premier and WHOA! Totally different - Crayola hard and still my go to, Prismacolor - too soft and I've noticed I'm constantly sharpening and going through these pencils like crazy. I'm heavy handed and press hard when I color, probably a bad habit I developed from using the Crayolas in the first place. However, I still love to color and wanna get better. I realize now that I need a harder core lead with lots of colors and still deciding which route to go - Prismacolor Scholar (60 colors, harder lead, heard great things) or Faber Castell Polychromos (sound awesome, but so expensive). I have a birthday coming up and need some boosting to go for it and invest in some quality pencils....Faber Castell Polychromos here I come :D Thanks again Peta! You are an amazing artist!
Well done! Thank you! This is about the best demonstration of multiple types of commonly used pencils in a perfect side by side comparison. While my personal favorites are the Derwent Artist for its natural colors(online ordering mostly) or the Prismacolor (easily available in most hobby shops where I travel). What I use most often is the Crayola. Averaging 280-300+ days a year in the outdoors they are the easiest to find most anywhere in the US. They're also rather friend friendly and budget friendly ("Hey when you drop off the grocery supplies next month can you add a 24 or 36 pack of Crayola pencils while you're at the store?") If I were making my living with my art I'd stick with the Derwent, Prismacolor or Polychromos, but most of my work over the decades is just for me or for fun. Thanks again for a great video!
Dear Peta, I love watching your tutortials how you describe what you are doing no matter what kind of video you recorded I love every one of them. Since I come from Germany your English is so nice to listen to and makes it so easy to understand. Thanks a lot. You were telling in this video, that you were looking for a sharpener that doesn't break the leds off. I bought a sharpener years and years ago and can tell you these experiences: First of all a hand sharpener waggles around unless you keep the pencil in the same postion all the time. It won*t worl properly because you need to grip the pecil every turn around again. That makes the pencil change the position in the sparpener and the sharpening process not in line. An electric sharpener will keep the process up in the same position for the pencil until it is sharp and has a very fine pointy tip. It wont break! I am even able to sharpen the very breakable prismacolor premiere's which have very very soft led until their tip is highly pointy. They never break in my sharpener!. The only thing you should look for is a sharpner with a spiral knife inside. An electric sharpener that turns a small sharpener inside around the pencil is useless. The cutter has to be a spiral knife that takes of the wood very precisely. I hope you can understand what I mean and wish that you find the right sharpener for your needs. sincerely Ulle btw I love Polychromas at best and combine them with the prismacolor pencils. I have a set of colleen coloured pencils which I use since childhood. Their pigments are very deep and allthough they are a low budget pencil I find them high quality since over 40 years :)
Hi Peta; Such beautiful colors, no matter which kind you are using. I want to color just like you when I grow up. I'm 74 by the way, lol, so I don't think that I ever will grow up, but I have learned so much about coloring and mixing different colors by watching your videos. Just awesome. I have watched some other people's videos, and although a lot of them are good, they just don't take the time to explain things and show us how the blended colors look on the actual picture. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.
As a beginner who just wants some nice pencils for coloring books, this is BY FAR the most helpful video I've seen! I feel like I can make a purchase with confidence now, and get pencils I'll enjoy without breaking the bank. Thank you :)
Thanks for the great review and demonstration! Prismacolors is all I've ever used, but after watching your review, I feel is worth trying a set of Polychromos.
I recently got a set of Caran 'd ache Luminence pencils. Incredible. They say they are a wax based but they have MASSIVE loads of pigment because they do not lay down like a wax based pencil. They take some getting used to after Prismacolor.
Thank you for reviewing all of these different pencils. Since watching this review I have purchased the FC Polychromos set a few pencils at a time and the Marco Raffine Fine Art pencils. I would love to see a review of Marco Raffine's watercolor pencils sometime. I haven't seen anyone review these particular pencils. Jerry's Artarama has the complete set of 36 pencils for just $15 right now. Also maybe a review of water brushes, clear colorless blender, and paint brushes for use with watercolor pencils. Thank you again for reviewing these coloring choices. Looking forward to watching more tutorials, color-a-longs, and reviews.
Peta, I have to compliment you on your videos. Your attention to detail is incredible and very appreciated! Your videos are very well thought out beforehand, organized and presented. (I've learned so much from watching them and just wanted you to know how appreciated they are!) ***May you reach 100,000 subscribers very soon! ;)
Peta, that video was fantastic and so good to hear a fellow Australian accent. I am 74 y.o. and have just recently gotten into colouring books. I am addicted!!! So relaxing. Your video is so informative and I am asking Santa for some Faber Castell Polychromos for Christmas. My other addiction is making cards. Thanks Peta.
Thank you so very much for this insightful video. It is the last one I will watch before ordering my Polychromos! You really said a magic word for me - ease of use for those with arthritis. Most might not believe that ease of use would be such an important issue, but for me it is significant. Thank you again. I am learning so much from your videos and it has enhanced my coloring greatly. Blessings to you for sharing your talent and gifts.
I've used Prismacolor for 10 years and I recommend the KUM (Germany) sharpener for keeping a point on them without breaking. I know when I've used a cheaper sharpener the points are fragile and break. A good sharpener really does make a difference with Prismacolor pencils. As far as them wearing down quickly there is nothing I have found that works for this because they have such soft, creamy leads. The color saturation is so pigmented with very little pressure though, you can't beat it - they're my favorites..
I just discovered your videos, love them, and hope you make more soon! I recently got into coloring and I've become obsessed. I decided to purchase the Polychromos, based largely on your recommendation, as well as many others. I recently discovered an additional benefit to owning these pencils. The paint on the outside of each Polychromos pencil matches (quite exactly, in most cases) its corresponding color at full pressure/saturation. This isn't the case with all brands, and allows me to more quickly choose a color palette, or determine if my chosen palette looks good together. All I have to do is look at the cluster of pencils next to each other. The swatches have still been helpful for seeing what each color looks like when applied more lightly. Thanks so much for all your videos, they've been very helpful!
Very great info Peta & the demo was absolutely Fantastic,my favorite is Polychromos colour Pencils i've try almost all of the Brand you've demo but to me Faber Castell the 120 colour Pencils are my Best friend. Thank you for this excellent video!
Thank you for taking the time out to show us the difference between each of the different brands of coloured pencils. Here in NZ the price of good quality pencil sets are very expensive. Using Ebay & Amazon etc websites are just as expensive with the shipping costs. One day I am hoping to purchase a really good set & your video gives me the option to chose which one I would prefer! Thanks again..I just love watching your videos, especially the blending techniques
I also use the Micador pencils and gave a set of them to my MIL to colour with. They are great for me as I have a few hobbies and are decent pencils for the price. This leaves me more hobby spending money for fabric and thread for my cross-stitching ;)
Hi Peta, I loved watching this. FC Polychromos win every time for me too. You must have a sore hand after this marathon. Thank you very much for doing this comparison for us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I have learned quite a lot about not only the color differences, but also how I can better blend my colors. Many thanks.
For the Prismacolor Premier pencils, I use the Uni KH-20 Hand Crank Wooden Pencil Sharpener. It has two modes, sharpen and extra sharp (which sharpens a bit more off) which you can switch between them using a button it has. It's a hand crank (obviously) but it's the best sharpener I've ever used for Prismacolors. The next best thing would be a metal pencil sharpener but that's a lot of work if you're coloring something big so the hand crank sharpener helps a lot. Just wanted to share based on my own experiences. Great video btw!! I loved it!
Hi 8 years later……..the FaberCastell Classics are one of my favourite budget/student grade. I find I can layer with them until the moon turns blue…..I think I stopped at 8 layers the time I did it. Awesomeness and to think they were always in my house and I never thought of using them until recently. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you so much for this demonstration, this really helps me in choosing which pencils I want to use. I think I will choose a budget brand since I am new to the adult coloring books.
There is nothing wrong with Crayola. It isn't the material you use but how you use them. :) Although there are some real junk coloured pencils but why bother with them when Crayola, which are really quite good for student quality are so cheap and freely available.
I have a jar with odd pencils, and 12 Crayolas are in there. I never feel like, "toss it back" for a better pencil. I use them, but not very much. I am interested in many crayola products for coloring pages. They are a time honored standard! And you can let anyone use them and not go OCD on them. Poor friends we have! Hahaha!
Thank you Peta for showing us the performance. Also thank you so much for the general idea/concept itself! I plan to use this comparison method in future myself with my differet types of pencil brands I own. In every new coloring book is an image that I like the least, so that will do serve this purpose for good. So I would also have a comparison at glance how they will work out in that particular sort of paper. All your videos are so much worth watching providing valuable content or great inspiration. Keep up the great work and all the best from Germany!
Wow, Peta, thank you for the detailed side-by-side review of so many different colored pencils. I bought Prismas over 15 years ago when they came in a nice box and pulled them out again recently when I got into colouring books. Maybe I have the ones made in the U.S.? Still, lots of breakage, oh the waste, but the lay down is nice and I love the colours. I did get Polychromos also, a bit of an adjustment and (sacriledge!) I find myself not as in love with the colours. Prismas have a range of lovely French greys, I'm a little surprised at how much I love them. But I'm still learning the Polys. You know, I like your final results with the no-name set, that section looks a bit like stained glass to me, but it was interesting to see how hard you had to work to achieve that look. So, a testament to your colouring skills and that it is the artist more than the tools. Now, I'd love to see you review the Tombow Irotijen's, maybe they could send you a set so that you could demonstrate them for us? Also all Caran D'Ache, especially the Luminance. What would it take, a write in campaign to those manufacturers :)
Hi! long time viewer from Ecuador, first time commenting hehehe! I have been binge watching your videos for the past few weeks and the one I wanted to watch the most was this one. I have been coloring since I can recall being able to grab a pencil between my fingers and was a little bummed when a few years ago it seemed like coloring books were not been produced anymore but now I feel like I am in heaven every time I open amazon and see all the new options we have available. I have used different colored pencils but for the last few years I settled with a set of crayola which have been awsome and have lasted for a really long time considering the treatment I have given them. A few months ago I had the opportunity to purchase my first set of prismacolor and I got hooked! It was a 48 color set which now belongs to my dad since I upgraded to the 132 pencil set since it gives me more options and I still combine them with the crayola ones until those run out. Loved to see how you compared them all!! Keep up the good videos!!
Thank you for this very nice review! I first thought that it will be difficult to do a review of such a big range of qualities, but I really liked the respectful way you treated the budget pencils. I personally only have the Prismas and the Polychromos, but I don't think that is a reason to look down on the budget pencils. And of those, I liked the Australian brand best, too. By the way, I am German, and the Australian brand is available in the German Amazon store beginning at around 20 Euros.
This was so so helpful!! I have always used Prismacolor and just ordered the Polychromos, Irojiten and Caran D'Ache Luminance sets (they arrive tomorrow and I can't wait!). I ordered the Polychromos after watching your videos bc the Prisma's have such breakage issues and while I love their color I'm wasting money bc I sharpening them down to nothing. My daughter wants a new set of pencils and after your video I think I'll just stick with Crayola. She was using my old set of Prismacolor Scholar pencils (they have harder cores) but has lost many of them. I may have to do the same comparison that you did (I even have that same book). Thank you very much for doing this. It is very helpful and much appreciated.
Thanks Peta, I have learned a lot from many of your videos. I got a pack of Marco Raffines and am very happy with them; much better than the cheap pencils I had.
I'm so glad I found your channel! You have great demos!!! I personally use Derwent pencils but I will consider the other brands when buying new pencils, defo! Thanks a lot! Can't wait for the next video!
I haven't seen anyone do such a thorough demo and review of so many brands! Thank you! This does help me, although I was disappointed at the hardness of the Polychromos. I could hear the pencil scratching when you were coloring the light green one. I don't think I'll be buying Faber Castell. Now I do love the softness of the Prismacolors but so many people say they break easy. I wouldn't buy the Raffines.
thank you so much for this review. i had been considering buying some new pencils and wasn't sure whether to go with Faber Castell or Derwent Artists. You have helped me make up my mind
Dear Mrs Peta Hewitt, no matter where you are, should you ever read this, please know that you are thought of and missed by a stranger who once found happiness and herself thanks to your amazing personality and your delightful videos. Tonight i pray for you and send you and yours love! Thank you for touching my life all those years ago. Be blessed! hugs
Great review! I'm a very young artist and I've been looking for good quality colored pencils for years now. I've been drawing since 6 years old! Thank you! I really like Faber Castell Polychromos a lot!
Holy Smoke! I recognize your voice from the facial exercise videos you make!! So, here I am again... back to Peta for more advice, information and demonstrations!! I've been enjoying your presentations for a long while and just wanted to say Thank you Peta! Keep up the great work!! 👍
Great video, Peta! Finally got round to watch it all the way through. I'm currently in the process of mapping out my artist grade coloured pencils that I've been slowly accumulating, so that means swatching out my 72 Derwent Studios (identical to the Artist pencils except barrel shape), 60 Polychromos and 72 Prismacolor Premier pencils. I swear I'm only crazy enough to do this- obsessive and artistic in equal measure! I want to be able to directly compare all colours- I figured it'd be cool to see the whole spectrum of those pencils to see where the overlaps are and where potential gaps are. I've taken inspiration from you and plan to draw and colour some identical pictures as well to see how they differ in application. I certainly have my work cut out!
Thank u so much I ordered some Marco raffine pencils that are nice to begin with eventually I'm going to move on though to prismacolors or faber castelle.
Wonderful review! I use Polychromos and love them. They are easy to layer and blend, especially for a beginner as myself. They keep a point, are smudge proof, lightfast, and don't break like Prisma. I use a liquid blending pen to pull the colors out more and fill the paper. They have their eco ones that are cheap, but still great for intermediate quality.
+Ashley Jones (Skipeople) Me too. Had seen Peta color a page with them and saw a video where they compared them with Prismacolor and I was just hooked on the polychromos. Saved up and bought the big set of 120 pencil in a luxurious box. They are the best. Have tried them with paper stumps and blending solution too, very nice. They are oil based so you can paint with them.
+Astrid S Same! Just splurged on the stunning 120 set in the wooden box.... very impatient for it to arrive now! So glad I chose to purchase the full set!
+Smoke And Quills I have them in the wooden box and they are so beautiful! The box is made of real wood and when you open it its so easy to see all 120 colors and it really protects the pencils. You are going to love them!
annabanana1984 Yep, that's the one. Do you also have a smell of wood when you have it open, leave the room and come back everytime? I do, my craftingroom is upstairs and each time I go down to the kitchen to get a drink and come back i smell it even befor I get up the stairs again, very nice smell,
+annabanana1984 Sounds amazing! I'm sure I'll be super happy with them. I think it's definitely worth paying more for the extra protection of the box as opposed to faffing around with the tins and you just can't go past the display element of having the wooden case too - makes finding just the right colour that much easier, as you say. I can't wait to use them!!!
Lovely video. Calming to watch. I am now late for work! Years ago I won a set of 24 Crayola Blendable pencils and shoved them in a drawer. I dug them out recently and tried them now I'm doing a lot of colouring, and they are really good. They blend very well and they are soft and rich. But I don't think they make them anymore sadly. I love my Koh-I-Noor Polycolour pencils, they are lovely. I find my old set of Derwent Artist colours to be too hard for me to want to use much. And I have FB Polychromos that I love. I'm itching to try Caran d'Ache Luminence, which are supposed to be the best of the best.
What a great video I use Prismacolor pencils and so far haven't had a problem with breakage. I do use a Prismacolor sharpener which has two slots- one for a sharp pointed tip and the other is for a little duller tip. Maybe that's why.
Thank you, Peta, this was very helpful. One thing I would have liked to see added was the type of medium because oil based pencils like Polychromos and Raffines perform differently than wax based like Prisma and Crayola. I'm fairly certain the Derwent are oil based but I'm not certain about the others and it does make a difference when you are choosing which colored pencils to buy. Thank you again for all of your fabulous tutorials, I have learned so much from your generosity and talent and do appreciate you sharing your skills and your time.
Sweet, they do layer nicely with the wax on top. Even when I try with everything in me, I still manage to color too hard so oils are far better for me. Thank you very much, love your videos, they are a godsend. Cheers.
I also have the Farber Castell Classics but I bought mine for 8€ (48) and I'm really happy with then Because I'm just starting to kinda learn to colour my portraits so they are pretty good for their price!
Thank you so very much. it was an amazing demonstration. I have could see immediately how well the polychromos blend. I also use Stadler Ergosoft. They only offer 24 colours but they are smooth, good to colour around edges and blend well.
Hi! Thank you for the in depth comparison. I do own the prismacolor( at considerable expense,) and the marc raffine as well as assorted budget pencils. Love your work please keep it coming.
Just a tip for buying Prismacolors, get them off amazon or any online shopping site. I am getting the full set of 150 for christmas for around $90 usd. At the store it was $200. I'd say it was a good deal.
Indigo if you live in America you can get them off dickblicks for that price otherwise if you live in UK or Ireland you can get them off amazon UK but you have to pay shipping if you live in Ireland. Hope this helps xx
An interesting video, I too think crayolas work well for their price but they're hard on the hands so I don't use them. I do want to purchase some oil based and am wondering if the marco refine would do. The polychromos are so expensive.
Get the marco renior. almost as goodas polychromos but you can find them on ebay for $50 with postage for a set of 72.. I wish someone told me about them before I bought my polychromos.
+Angela Radomi I LOVE my polychromas. Excellent investment. Prismacolors do wear down much more quickly then Polychromas and the Fabar Castell have such rich color. For the Artist quality I need highly justified the price difference.
This demo was priceless. I've seen many comparison videos, but they never did a side-to-side application like this. Thank you so much!

@@longestcategg7097 this commenter is correct - no closed caption is not available for this video… very disappointed.
I have also noticed that the TYPE of paper really affects how certain colored pencils work. is there any way to know what pencil to use for a particular type of paper, or is it just trying and error? ..
try small sketch and see how it does
Hi! You may want to prime your papers with a transparent gesso such as these, for example amzn.to/2bxULDH or these amzn.to/2bsDY2H, amzn.to/2ceNf0j
By using gesso you get more benefits than with the best of papers and you can even color on it with oil colors.
I have to get up in an HOUR for school, WHY AM I WATCHING THIS??? I hate myself sometimes. great video tho.
katie mcgonigle me to got to go to mma class
big mood
Hahaha funny
Usually people would just do swatches but you did a coloring with the different brands of coloring pencils which I find really helpful. Thank you! Keep up the good work ^^
I don't even mind this being so long because it's so relaxing to watch you color with this music.
Peta --- Thank you for your video on the different brands of colored pencils. It was a real eye-opener for me. This reminds me of painters who either love working with oil or those who love working with acrylic. I happened to like both the Prisma Color Pencils and the Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils. Thank you so much for such a great review of the various pencils available in the market. I just started coloring again just a few months ago...I had no idea there was such a thing as adult coloring books.
I now know what set I will purchase first and what sets I will add in eventually:) Who knew my childhood crayola did so well in comparison, thanks again.
i can't believe i actually watched this for an hour. it wad so satisfying watching it omg
so glad that the Marco Raffine are good ones, becouse I just order my a set of them with 48 colors .plus I know thaw can I'm also pick up some Crayola ones since their my favorite to color with .
First I want to thank you Peta for a comprehensive well done video. This was tremendously informative to anyone wondering about choosing colored pencil geared to adult coloring books and not just artists. Your style and information was fantastic!! i look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work!!
I just got the Prismacolor 150 count premier pencil set as a gift from my parents! I absolutely love them! Thanks for all this great info!
I use prismacolor at my tattoo shop, for all my flash art! They always seem to have the best brilliant effects...
Worth every penny!
prismacolors and the polychromos were the best ones
LONEWOLF because they are more expensive than the others
Chiiro Cáo Not necessarily. A 24 pack of prismacolor is 8 dollars.
Cause they work better. Have you tried 7+ layers with crayola it just doesn't happen. Though ignoring the lightfast problems Derwent is also nice not quite the same level but close.
Thank you! 😅😂
@@neitz5775 wtf it was that cheap back then
What a lovely way to review pencils.
I recieved my marco raffine pencils today and I love them!
Really? I just bought them, now. :D
I can't wait.
Yes! They are amazing and SO vibrant!! Blending isn't too good but manageable! :)
TazD3vilzz I hope they're worth the 20 bucks.
+Danny Nguyen you wont be disappointed. especially for $20! just have to print off a colour template for them as some.of the ends f the pencil.colours look the same.but the colours are very different
TazD3vilzz I can't wait for them to get here. How long did you have to wait?
I'm a little newer to actual art and I was wondering and debating between the Polychromos and the Prismacolors. This helped to clear up which is better for me. Thanks Peta!
Thank you for such an in depth demonstration, and comparison. I absolutely loved the rich colors of the Australian pencils, and the Prismacolor.
Very good demo to compare these side by side in a coloring situation rather than strips of each as you get with many demos, thank you
Thank you Peta for that wonderful comparison! It was nice to see how the different brands compare.
Great demo. Appreciate honesty regarding features of each type of pencil. Enjoy all your videos!! Keep them coming.
Well done!
Dear Peta,
I love watching your tutortials how you describe what you are doing no matter what kind of video you recorded I love every one of them.
I hope you can understand what I mean and wish that you find the right sharpener for your needs. sincerely Ulle
btw I love Polychromas at best and combine them with the prismacolor pencils.
I have a set of colleen coloured pencils which I use since childhood. Their pigments are very deep and allthough they are a low budget pencil I find them high quality since over 40 years :)
Great video, thank you.
Polychromos are my favourites pencils, too, I bought them a few months ago and I love them.
What a great way to compare pencils! This was a delight to watch. and I learned a lot. Thank you!
As a beginner who just wants some nice pencils for coloring books, this is BY FAR the most helpful video I've seen! I feel like I can make a purchase with confidence now, and get pencils I'll enjoy without breaking the bank. Thank you :)
This was one of the best reviews I have watched! Thanks for sharing this video, I learned a lot and enjoyed watching.
Dang Peta....even what you colored with the cheapies is pretty! 😉💖
So informative! I liked seeing the brands next to each other on the mandala to compare how they performed. Thank you!!!
Peta, I have to compliment you on your videos. Your attention to detail is incredible and very appreciated! Your videos are very well thought out beforehand, organized and presented. (I've learned so much from watching them and just wanted you to know how appreciated they are!) ***May you reach 100,000 subscribers very soon! ;)
338k as of this viewing. She surpassed your hopes... 😉
I have that Marco raffine colored pencils and its soft and easy to blend
you are so good that you make all of them look great!!!!
Best pencil comparison I've seen. I just discovered your channel today. I love your sense of color and the beautiful blending work.
Totally agree with you on the polychromos, I absolutely LOVE them, and they are worth every cent!!
+Chloe Crawford If all i had were Micador pencils i would still be happy. I personally think they are the best of all the budget pencils I have tried.
I loved it!
Thanks for sharing. It's always good to know alternatives.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.....it was so informative... Your style of teaching/sharing is right up my alley!!!Thank you again!
I use Crayola because I'm broke but they do work pretty nicely
There is nothing wrong with Crayola. It isn't the material you use but how you use them. :) Although there are some real junk coloured pencils but why bother with them when Crayola, which are really quite good for student quality are so cheap and freely available.
Pinecone I have more expensive sets, but sometimes I use my Crayola. It connects me to my childhood.
Michael Dust that's what she said  oh god I'm too cringey for my own good
I have a jar with odd pencils, and 12 Crayolas are in there. I never feel like, "toss it back" for a better pencil. I use them, but not very much. I am interested in many crayola products for coloring pages. They are a time honored standard! And you can let anyone use them and not go OCD on them. Poor friends we have! Hahaha!
Traitor (Soz had to. But Derwent are the best + my best friend is only 11 but owns almost all the derwents)
I loved your demonstration. It a great way to show how the inexpensive to the most expensive compare. Thanks for a good review!
I was reading comments to learn more while listening then i saw a comment that this video is almost an hour and i was like, oh no. But great video! 🌸
Good review and demo, Peta, thanks for sharing all the pencils and examples!
+Dede Willingham LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
Dede Willingham Hello, I subscribed to your channel.
I am on a budget and use Crayola and Sargent Art. Both are fine for me.
This woman is the Bob Ross of colored pencils
GreyAeria LOL yes
Great review and information! Really appreciate you taking the time to do this for us. Looking forward to your next video!
Love this your video. truth is the tool is only as good as the person using it.
Sage words.
Be blessed! hugs
Out of the brands you reviewed, I have Crayola for a cheap option and Prisma Color for a more pricey option and I like them both... :)
Great review! I'm a very young artist and I've been looking for good quality colored pencils for years now. I've been drawing since 6 years old! Thank you! I really like Faber Castell Polychromos a lot!
Thank you so much. This was really useful to get an idea of the differences of the myriad choices of pencils there are out there.
Holy Smoke! I recognize your voice from the facial exercise videos you make!! So, here I am again... back to Peta for more advice, information and demonstrations!! I've been enjoying your presentations for a long while and just wanted to say Thank you Peta! Keep up the great work!! 👍
Peta, One of the very best presentations I have seen on demos. Thanks
Love your colouring the mandala I love Fabre castle xx
Only you could make $5 pencils look professional xD
EverGreen Lps i know right I'm just stirring here like are u kidding me she is insulting them I'm so jealous 😒
combine blend with other brands
+Linda Tschappat Hi Linda, Derwent Artists are wax based but i have no issue using both wax and oil based pencils together.
I have Faber Castell and Marco Raffine, they are perfect for colouring.(From my expirience)
does marco raffine easy to erase?
well kind of.It is smooth.
thanks, I have a plan to buy it 😃
no problem :)
Klara Cavrag which one is better? I can onl get one of them
Very helpful!!! Thank you! Think I'm gonna go with the prismacolor pencils! So vibrant!
Just a tip for buying Prismacolors, get them off amazon or any online shopping site. I am getting the full set of 150 for christmas for around $90 usd. At the store it was $200. I'd say it was a good deal.
Anime_Wolf I'm getting 72 for around €37
Winnie Pooh please share where you're getting them from? X
Indigo if you live in America you can get them off dickblicks for that price otherwise if you live in UK or Ireland you can get them off amazon UK but you have to pay shipping if you live in Ireland. Hope this helps xx
Thankyou very much 😘x
Amazon is currently selling a set of 72 for about $37
An interesting video, I too think crayolas work well for their price but they're hard on the hands so I don't use them. I do want to purchase some oil based and am wondering if the marco refine would do. The polychromos are so expensive.
Get the marco renior. almost as goodas polychromos but you can find them on ebay for $50 with postage for a set of 72.. I wish someone told me about them before I bought my polychromos.
+Angela Radomi
I LOVE my polychromas. Excellent investment. Prismacolors do wear down much more quickly then Polychromas and the Fabar Castell have such rich color. For the Artist quality I need highly justified the price difference.
I'm so excited, for my birthday I'm getting the Faber Castell polychromos which i've been wanting for over a year and a half c:
to expensive
time is also a price
Great piece of art. I appreciate the details and specifics. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Hey peta, did you ever use Caran D'Ache pencils? Can you please review them if you have used them
