Thank you for mentioning ENVIRONMENT! I think many people don’t know how powerful an element this is in being able or unable to change unhealthy behavioral. I know that ultimately a patient has to participate in their own recovery - but there are cases that saying this amounts to “blaming the patient” because they do not have the willpower to initiate their own recovery. It’s like saving a drowning person by standing on the shore yelling at them to swim harder 😖. I’m looking for groups that educate families of patients on how they (the family) can better provide an environment conducive to a person’s healing (maybe how people around the patient can avoid further deepening the patient’s self-criticism by adding their own (“she’s so stubborn, “she wants to be sick”, “she doesn’t want to do anything for herself, so there’s nothing to be done”….. ooh, I just got this comeback to that statement (by a healthy family member eye-rolling about a sick relation) - well why don’t YOU (the healthy person) do what the doctor recommends (exercise 30 mins every day, or give up drinking sodas, or eat 5 servings of veggies)? I feel that family members who do not try to adopt the healthy behaviors recommended for their sick relation actually contribute to further decline of the sick person. 😢. Thank you for having enough empathy to think about why patients don’t do what you recommend, and by checking this out by doing it for yourself. I think more doctors should bother to learn this self-honesty & humility. What else can I do to help my family understand that they can be a powerful force in healing our very ill mother?

A great advice - BEAUTIFUL. I realised myself actually recently that the nagging voice inside, the inner critic is it the centre most of our pain, and behind the neglect and lack of self-care. We have to replace it with self-compassion.

While I think this is great advice for anyone who is having trouble sticking to an exercise routine, if I may say so the headline is a little misleading, as it has nothing to do with stroke specifically. Anyone who has just had a stroke or is at risk of stroke, who is searching youtube for a video they think my tell them what kind of exercises to do, is going to get absolutely no help from this video, despite the first four words of the title being 'Exercise and Stroke Prevention'. Also, if it was truly about 'Barriers to Success' it would have explored a range of actual barriers, for instance people being worried about over-stressing their body or raising their blood pressure, putting them at further risk of stroke. Instead it was a general point about the doctor's personal journey about finding time to fit in the daily exercise. I'm sure you do great work but please be aware people on youtube search desperately for these things, and misleading headlines don't help them find the life-saving info they need. Just saying,

Turn to Jesus people he died for your sins, Repent of what the New Testament describes as sin. Believe the gospel obey the teachings of Jesus documented in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus is the only way to be saved, be baptized by faith in Jesus you can live life with him as your example. If you need prayer i'll pray for you. If you want to keep contact with a brother in Christ i’ll keep contact with you. The love of God is beyond our understanding. God bless..,.,
