You're one of the few youtubers I put my quality on the highest level for
That may be the single greatest compliment I have ever received 🙈 Thank you!
Congratulations to Alexa. Because i am in junior division, i dont know about your achievements. Yesterday i saw the leaderboard and your team are qualified to Yale. That is so good and also your vlogs always be exicting for me. Have fun in Yale in November.
Thank you so much! I'm so excited to be doing this all over again and I hope you get to live the experience vicariously through the vlogs! :D
Chauncey's Laugh will always be the best laugh in the whole WSC
Agreed XD I once did a Chauncey Laugh compilation, I think! It was hilarious.
Wait there's a compilation?!
show me please.
If there's enough demand perhaps I'll upload it here :P
Lol😂Chauncey's laugh is pure gold
One of the best instances of "laugh is funnier than the joke" 😂
Hope to see you in Yale(If I would pass) XD
Hope to see you too!! I believe in you, you can make it! :D
Klarisse is my spirit animal.
and everytime I see: This is an academic competition I swear. It's so hilarious, but so trueeee.
Right? XD I love so much how WSC doesn't take itself too seriously--we are learning together and debating on important topics, yes, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun :P
HAHAHA 1:49 is iconic
yep HAHAHAH
Truly terrifying :") And to think, a few minutes previous, my team had breathed a sigh of relief when we compared our debate trees with Sze Ann Pang's and found no common rooms. Too soon. :")
4 months of studying into 1 month of failure line got me so hard 😂
OMG I ALSO LOLIPOPPED AGAINST NANYANG AT THE KUALA LUMPUR ROUND!!!!! :0
It's all part of the experience~ XD
i loled so hard with the nanyang girls
i cried so hard with the nanyang girls HAHAHA help

4:33 YOU FILMED MY TEAMMATES
2 seconds later: THAT'S ME OMG
Congrats on qualifying for Yale! M eagerly waiting for the next vlog!! Also, was the challenge too difficult? Btw, m going for the Athens global round.. Junior division..
Thank you so much for the congratulations and support!! The challenge is always difficult 😅 (yet fun!). Best of luck in Athens; you're gonna have an incredible time :D
You went to my school's booth! I didn't get to see you :(. The fair was so crowded, it was impossible to get through.
Aww, that's too bad! Would have wanted to meet you :( Maybe at ToC/in a future globals though? :D
Hopefully I can meet you at the next global round. I saw you at the ball but I was too scared to say hi. You were dancing with my teammates.
Chauncey's laugh was like the best 😂
Chaunceylaugh compilation video yeah? :D
totally :)
I see me at 1:09, the guy looking down hahaha
But whyyy did you not say hiiii D: vlogbomber :P
Alexa Loste too busy dying inside, sorry. You gave me a medal onstage though ahahah
Aww congratulations!! I was sooo happy to share in such celebration :D Would've wanted to properly talk to you though!
Great vid as usuall!!!!
Thank you so much!! I truly do appreciate it :D
Are you attending again this year?
Our team debated against Klarisse's and they were so gooooood
Yes, they are!!! So proud of my PICAPacas. Especially Klarisse. Klarisse is my spirit animal.
oh myyy.... sorry but may I know who you are??? cuz I think that you are mistaking me for another potato named Klarisse hehehe
Also damn Klarisse's 'Bruh essay' beat out mine. How does that work.
nobody knows
Perhaps her grader was astounded by her creativity and conciseness! :)
i know Mai Chi too!! She learned at our school i guess?
Hope to see u in ToC if I qualify in Athens...☺😊
Hope to meet you as well!! I believe in you, you can totally make it! :D And when you do, let's meet up in ToC!
lol if i ever debated with nanyang- we don't have to start the debate - i'm fine getting a lollipop. isoke. HAHAHA
haha same though! We technically won 2/2 debates because we never had a chance with that first one to begin with :P
klarisse is my spirit animal
Hello, love your vlogs. I’m new with world scholar cup and will be attending the global rounds in Australia. Do you have any tips for first timers?
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching :) Most of the tips I'd give are pretty commonplace--make collaborative documents for your team to share notes on (my team loved this app called Quip), organize mock debates with other teams and get as much practice as you can (the debate event has a maximum of 4000 points per scholar, compared to Writing & Challenge which have a 3000 point threshold), adopt a strategy when it comes to answering Challenge questions (some scholars have a limit to how many 3 or 4 or 5 bubbles they shade, some scholars only shade a single answer per question).
One thing I'd especially advise you to take embrace is the extremely collaborative community of WSC, which is quite uncommon in other academic competitions. There are tons of resources and communities available online, which will help you become more academically competitive and simultaneously make friends with other scholars. For starters, check out OnePwaa :)
Hope you have an amazing globals season! Best of luck.
omgosh you guys met Nanyang girls school on debate! O.O
It was terrifying but greatly enlightening! Full WSC experience :P
Alexa Loste Hahahaha. Btw, my schoolmates are at 2.25 of your vid :P
Lol awesome!!! Also, can't wait to use the PICA logo animation :D
Hahaha do you like it? I made a stupid mistake on the animation tho >.
I LOVE it! Couldn't even notice the mistake. Thank you so incredibly much for making it, I opened it this morning and it absolutely made my day :)
you know you're screwed when you see dem yellow jackets
Ahhhhh I miss Hanoi! I remember that I got inside an elevator in the hotel we were staying at and Izzy just walked in and I had a silent mental breakdown about the fact that I was in an elevator with her 😂
Aww omg!! That must have been soo much fun, I totally relate :D I ran into Burch at our hotel after Scholar's Ball; he looked so exhausted but it was so great to see him!!
Do you know how many points a team needs to get to yale?
No, I don't, sorry :( But in previous years, the points threshold varied from 25,000 to 27,000 points per team!
What was the essay topic? 😂 I love the fact that she wrote "bruh"😂😂
It was a Literature prompt!! A bit creative, yeah, but not enough for me to dare to write "bruh" (but apparently enough for Klarisse lol) XD
@alexa my brain has a weird sense of humor and judgement... but at least it works hahahaha
Do we have to wear uniforms to the academic competitions?
Eman fattani preferably yes :)
Not required (unless your school does) but smart formal attire is recommended! PICA uniform for Hanoi Globals was as follows.
- Day 1 (Opening): Casual attire (We'll be in an auditorium for the Opening Ceremony, but the Scavenge may be outdoors. You may opt to pack lighter wear for the Scavenge to change into during lunch.)
- Day 2 (Academics): Smart semi-formal attire: White button-down, slacks/pencil skirt, flats/school shoes, PICA jacket (or blazer). If you wanna wear something cultural to Scholar's Fair, pack that too!
- Day 3 (Bowl): Smart casual attire + PICA jacket
- Day 4 (Ball): There are 2 types of scholars at the Ball: Dress Your Best and Dress Your Comfiest. Personally, I'd go with the first if only for the experience of "ball" and also nice photos but it's really up to you!
- Day 5 (Closing): Smart casual attire + PICA jacket
Thank you lovee
😉Klarisse is my spirit animal 😉😆😆😆😆
Klarisse is brilliant and hilarious 😂
hey , i know u just went to hanoi global rounds , need some information about that , like the difficult pats , scholars challenge's paper's pic etc . can u tell me more about it.
If you do mind, I'd also like some 😂💞
Hiii guys so ummm... I don't think that we are actually allowed to disclose info about the tests and such (like for example the test questions) as that will be quite unfair... and also a minute form of cheating hahaha. That's why they always ask us to keep our gadgets away once the academic events start. But if you'd like a mental image of how the scholars challenge questions will be... it would help to have this image in mind: 1 big circle and 1 slightly smaller but still big circle. Have these two intersect each other a lil bit *note: just a lil bit*. The first big circle represents everything in the curriculum (whether or not you studied it) while the slightly smaller but still quite big circle represents everything that will come out in the challenge. (This diagram is also true in the case of the scholars bowl). Hope this help!!! (≧∇≦)
thanks , hope that helps
I didn't read this comment properly and thought it only asked for what aspects were hard. Regardless, thank you much for the advice. Also, I also doubt you're allowed to disclose information so that's completely understandable about where you're coming from. So sorry it came out that way 😳
Hi guys! Klarisse is right on the rule against sharing motions/prompts/questions. I also have my own rules against cheating in general. We can learn together and achieve great things without sacrificing our Scholar's Honor :) But, if you just want to know what I found difficult: the challenge is always, well, challenging. Specifically, I found the Science and History sections must difficult, though this may definitely vary in future rounds. Personally, the tip that I would give you would be to explore the themes beyond the cases given in the curriculum :D They give a great place to start but WSC always goes beyond the surface so you should too! Hope this helps :) Best of luck!
i felt like i was good at writing bcuz i got 8th at regionals (2950 score) but then i didn't even get a medal in globals for writing feels so sad.
can u give me some tips?
Don't let a bad writing score bring you down too much! At Prague mini-globals, my team placed 2nd overall in writing; then in ToC, not a single one of us won a writing medal :) It can really depend on your grader and your topic/style. That said, here are a few tips:
Writing1. Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box! It’s fine to stick to the “traditional” structure of a persuasive essay, and write exceptionally, but you should also consider exploring different ways to persuade through writing, as in this essay by multi-round Champion Scholar Chauncey Lo: facebook.com/groups/alpacascholars/permalink/747186292081784/
2. A great way to score well is to stand out! I often include an element of narrative or descriptive writing in my essays to hook the reader and keep them interested. Remember that your essay grader has probably read dozens of essays on the same topic before yours, so you really want to differentiate yourself, in a good way, of course!
3. Incorporate material from the curriculum into your writing, if you can! One thing I notice a lot of scholars do is use their precious 15 minutes of research before the actual writing period to google new evidence, new examples, etc., but before doing so, be sure to look through the research material you already have because oftentimes, prompts actually span over multiple subjects and are not simply limited to the one they are filed under! It’s also a great way to show your mastery of the theme and the curriculum itself.
thanks for the help!
can't beat them yellow jackets :P
I wouldn't even dare try! :P
Alexa Loste should probably turn them into a WSC meme
I have been qualified to the global round and I'm going in july
Congrats and have an awesome time! My globals experiences were some of the best days of my life and I really hope they'll be yours too :)
