I love this game so much!! It was my first Castlevania game and it quickly became my favorite series. I remember getting this game at 18 and playing it while recovering from knee surgery. 14 years later it’s still got my heart. I’m so proud too that I fully understand everything the Jupiter says when he talks about this game: about the uncancellable attacks, the real time window scroll and POV style camera in the game, and the lack of EXP system to level up in the game. Thank you so much for this Jupiter, this was a treat!
Lament of Innocence is legit one of the lowkey GOATs of Castlevania, and I'm genuinely shocked this didn't get a rando sooner because it does seem absolutely perfect for the format! Also CRAZY Rando when?
Lament of Innocence memory is actually a bit of a pain to work with. lots of things as floating point numbers that really don't need to be floats. tons of stuff doesn't seem to be where you'd likely 'expect'. It used to have a couple emulator specific softlocks on some cutscenes. and a bunch of the stuff needs to be editted from the iso files to make them work instead of being able to test stuff from editting some things in RAM.
This is my FAVORITE Ps2 era Vania title. Its super duper fun to speedrun, the music goes crazy at the later levels, the secret boss is INSANELY technical and easy to cheese if you're quick with it. The prequel featuring Hector, Curse of Darkness, also uses the same graphics engine but massively overhauls the way the game feels and plays. Sad that they never got around to fixing or making LCK work as more than an item drop tool, and in many cases it was just broken outright. Also you getting the duck item right away killed me. I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle the bosses in this game, they're some of the most infuriating to me and I adore every minute of learning them. Solid to see you playing one of my favorite speed titles! You should check out my 100% all secrets run on Twitch next time you get a chance, I beat the game 100% in exactly 11 hours and 53 minutes including all items, drops, and boss entries as part of a 12 hour stream.
@@Dont_. I always thought thematically it was a prequel even though it took place hundreds of years after Lament, thanks for telling me that! I had no clue! I just thought it being a spin-off story that didn't totally feature Dracula made it less of a natural sequel, but maybe that wasn't the devs intent.
I've seen people clown on Lament for suffering from the polygon ceiling curse, but it's genuinely one of the coolest action RPGs that doesn't actually involve leveling up. The Color Orb Subweapon system is so sick.
This has to be my favorite Castlevania, more than even CoD. Bordering on more than the 3ds ones. It reminds me of God Hand and had so much room to make an even more grand castle with more moved. A shame we'll never get any sort of sequel that has this same skill-based focus than relying on higher equipment numbers. We almost got a sequel in CoD with Trevor mode.
15:25 "Are-heem?" Joachim is usually pronounced "hua-keem" (similar pronunciation to Joaquin), though it is a Hebrew name so I suppose traditionally it would be closer to "yo-a-hhheem" (with a fricative)
Glad you played this game brother with this new mod! How about Curse of Darkness also you like that one?? Enjoy your Metroid videos as well as other Castlevania games man keep this up 💯🙏
Wonder if the Rosario item is part of the randomizer? And yes, Rosario can be carried as an item and can be used anytime you want. But only through using cheat devices.
It is not a part of the Randomizer... I didn't change anything about Rosarios. Technically there are 3 different Rosario items, The game only uses 1 of them though.
I just looked into this. If you were to get a Rosario into your inventory (which isn't possible without cheats) the only way you could use it is if it is at an item duplication point. I will not be adding that to it.(This is mainly because if I decide to make a version for the PAL .iso that would not be compatible) The other Rosario item which could be added into the inventory if anything were to drop it causes a softlock upon using it. @@KyuJuEX099
I had no idea that Constitution and Luck did nothing in this game. Granted I never bothered with CON, but I at least thought that Luck would help with item drops.
CoD is definitively my favorite castlevania, though in recent years i've been warming up to AoS/DoS, Lament looks fun though and i wish they'd just port all the 3d vanias to modern consoles.
Haha oh wow, I remember beating this game like, literally 19 years ago and completely wrote it off as mid. Never liked 3DVanias but it's always good to see them get some love from the community. Goooooood stuff.
Jupiter, do you know the Castlevania Lament of Innocence Alchemist mod? If yes and you have access, do you know where I could download it? It seems that it was deleted a few years ago and it is difficult to find both ISO and PKG nowadays. In fact, I loved the randomizer run, it makes me want to try it too and feel nostalgic about seeing Laments again.
Watching you play this reminded me of the many, many things I did not like about this game. I loved the plot, but actually playing it was a major chore.
About the combo-system, is the 5% additive or multiplicative? As in, is the second hit 105% damage, then 110, 115, 120? Or is it 110.25, 115.625, 121.55 etc?
Still have my physical copies of both Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. Wonder if there's a Curse randomizer? Or if there's a mod that gives a purpose to using the almighty power of ass to claim various random chairs strewn across the game?
Is the statuette a fixed item? That felt like a vanilla drop, but it's also one of the most reliable relics in the game so it'd help make every seed playable. I love LoI, but I hear you on those whip-jumps. The camera just does not work properly for a single one of them, and the timing window is already a little off.
im afraid this looks like the black sheep of the castlevania series imo (aswell as castlevania 64) just watched this vid and i dont think this interests me to play thanks for the vid and no malice intented ❤
I just bought sotn on my mobile phone and it was about the most clunky game i ever played. It was a nightmare trying to stear, jump and fight whit touch screen. Im going to go get a 8bitdo controller tomorrow do someone know if it gets any better whit a controller?
Randomizer created by the 3DVania LEGEND Casj1357! You can find it by joining the Castlevania Speedruns Discord here:

Nice to see some 3D Vania love! Love both PS2 3D games, but Curse is the favorite of mine. Both have some of the best music in the series.

Actually Curse of Darkness is a sequel, both in release date and story. Curse of Darkness takes place after Castlevania III

honey, wake up, JC just revived my favorite castlevania!
White orb and black orb both in the teleporter room? That's just insane
One cool thing about being pretty new to Castlevania is that I did not even know this existed before now, and it looks really interesting!
This is pretty interesting. I wonder what a Curse of Darkness randomizer would be like.
27:30 HAPPY FEET! WOMBO COMBO!
Never saw this game till now, surprisingly good OST and ambience!

lul, watching the frost elemental fight made me think of fenrir strats in kingdom hearts 2
The first ten minutes just straight up solved all combat problems. What a seed!
finally, one of my favorite content creators making content with one of my favorite games of all time. I am at peace, and I cherish this
wow glad you played this my favorite castlevania really wish this was on new gen console so i could experience this joy again
"I'm gonna enjoy it, very very mucho"
I mean the description of the Brisengamen is still technically correct lol. Less MP cost means prolonged use of relics.

Ya know I've never played this Castlevania before but after watching your playthrough I'm gonna have to play it tonight.
This was certainly an unexpected delight
That was great to watch all the way through! I wonder if Curse has a random as well...

I was partially wrong. I could add them if people really want them.
The first of the Greatest Five is here!

Heck yeah more Lament of Innocence. If only because the OST is phenomenal.
YOOOOOO, my second favourite castlevania
You can hold down the sub weapon button for white orb + holy water
Still one of the best castlevania games out there
Ohhh i was just thinking about this game the other day!
This and CoD underrated games in my opinion, LoI is most my fav game in 3D, ngl LoS is good, but old is most comfy and climax!
Interesting, Lament is definitely a lesser Castlevania but it's still a neat game. It's pretty cool to see it get some love.
I just watched a full playthough of this last week lmao
Haha oh wow, I remember beating this game like, literally 19 years ago and completely wrote it off as mid. Never liked 3DVanias but it's always good to see them get some love from the community. Goooooood stuff.

So that explains it. Very good, konami
My childhood! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
2 more years till a curse of darkness rando
It is being worked on.
I. Love
This. Game.

Additive, so 11 hits = 150% damage
Still have my physical copies of both Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.
Wonder if there's a Curse randomizer? Or if there's a mod that gives a purpose to using the almighty power of ass to claim various random chairs strewn across the game?
There is a Curse randomizer (it exists), and there is a 'new' one being developed.
I didn't change the Svarog Statue as I didn't have any good ideas for Golden Knight and you have to beat it to progress.
Peak
Have you ever traveled astarboard?
what is the name of the track played after the first switch? i cant seem to find it on the ost disk
It's part of the previous track, House of Sacred Remains
cube issue
Yoo, there is a rando on Lament, I gotta try that
im afraid this looks like the black sheep of the castlevania series imo (aswell as castlevania 64)
just watched this vid and i dont think this interests me to play
thanks for the vid and no malice intented ❤
While definitely not banger, Lament is perfectly fine as a 3D Castlevania.
I just bought sotn on my mobile phone and it was about the most clunky game i ever played. It was a nightmare trying to stear, jump and fight whit touch screen. Im going to go get a 8bitdo controller tomorrow do someone know if it gets any better whit a controller?
SotN is an absolute classic with a controller, playing with a touchscreen sounds awful though.
