- The Locust are creatures who exploded from underneath the Seran surface, many humans were dropped within the first few hours of the invasion. Roughly 25% of the human population would be annihilated during this initial outbreak. Eventually as humans got a foothold, they were able to fight back, but these physical prowess of these monsters, made them difficult to go toe to toe with and as a result, not many soldiers would be left. It would come light, that scientists employed by the COG would responsible for humanities ultimate predator. In todays episode, we will discuss where they came from, why they are more physically capable than humans, how how this has impacted the Seran people!

For those of you that don't know, alot of COG soldiers also died from using the chainsaw becasue, in lore, its supposed to be a last resort. Using the chainsaw on a drone will send bone fragments (depending on where you hit) flying in every direction at mach 2. The Lancer v2 was also a combination of Marcus's and Tai's idea since Marcus saw Tai use a chainsaw to kill a drone and thought "Damn, we gotta start doing that". He then took the idea to Hoffman, and this was the legit conversation. Hoffman, "Thats the dumbest idea I've ever heard, lets fucking do it"
It actually was a powered saw, not a chainsaw.
Never thought of that n yeah i wouldnt wanna get close enough to use it 😆
This is the same government that wouldn't put stocks on their guns until 30 years after the war and it was only because Marcus did it himself in a garage
Hoffman: its dumb, using a chainsaw with absolutely every downside that can kill our own soldiers while doing it.
Marcus: the drones suffers a lot.
Hoffman: let's ducking do it
I don’t believe that Mach 2 statement, I call BS. flying bone fragments won’t be fast than a bullet nor should it penetrate cog armor.
Locust: *excellent eyesight for sniping*
Jackal Sniper: Finally a worthy opponent, our battle will be LEGENDARY!
Indeed.
The battle: Wild West like sniper duel.
Locust: *(Wall bounces towards Jackal then dodgeroll fires and lands a Headshot, exploding the Jackals Head)*
Legendary Jackals are Crackshots (._.) but Drone Snipers are THAT PLUS Steroids and BLOODLUST (._.) literally they're almost the Size of Brutes (Jiralhanae) and will obliterate your corpse into a pulp pile of mush the 1st chance they get (:/) not to mention if you're down they WILL CURB STOMP YOUR HEAD INTO OBLIVION (:O) (._.) Trully the stuff of nightmares... Gears of War I feel was successful not just because of it's brutal and Unique Gameplay but because of it's Horror Elements.
The original Gears of War Trilogy always had Gore but not just violence for the sake of violence... it was War.. and it showed the Horrors of War and Death... and Mortality in general... but it always felt like one of those games that felt creepy and had Horrors around every corner 😕 the kind of game that kept you on your toes throughout every moment never knowing what lies ahead.... the OG Gear of War Trilogy will always have a special place in my heart.. I remember all the friends I had in those games and all the crazy clutch PVP moments.. as well as the Enemy variety the game had throughout the Campaign. Gears of Wars Enemy types were unique similar to the Covenant.. although not a group of Individual Species and Civilizations, it was still made up of diverse Life.. it really made it feel like you were fighting an entirely Alien Race, but yet they were us (:/) didn't mean to go and ramble on about the entire franchise, but to put it bluntly, Gears of War Locust Snipers would absolutely body Jackal Snipers both in a 1v1 and on a Massive scale. Simply put the Drone Snipers have more in they're favor.. as well as being more physically capable than the average Human that would mean Jackals would be overwhelmed and outlasted seeing as how the Locusts are more Resilient and Durable than the Kig-yar (Jackals)(:/)
RAAM being a drone makes him more awesome, not less.
It takes an absolute unit to go from one in a million to THE one in a million.

The Locust are intelligent enough to communicate with Serans it is just they only ever say threats or taunts, there is a comic that shows their military more in depth revealing to be surprisingly well structured but higher positions tend to be vulnerable to cutthroat politics or straight up promotion via killing the guy above you.
Imagine hating a specie so much the only moment you decide to talk to him its menaces
Sraak was bitch made fr. Couldn't pull himself off momma's tiddy so he had a couple real ones go stomp out the grunt work.
"How should we defeat these underground monsters?" "DESTROY THE SURFACE" "wait what-"
Well if you destroy the underground hives then the surface will go along with it so…
15:15 I feel like this is were Raam’s comic really helped flesh them out a bit. Being able to see them talk to each other made them seem less like dumb brutes.
Getting sent back to the New Hope facility back in Gears 5 revealed a lot of missing details for the Locust backstory as a whole. I'm also curious who's death will be canon in Gears 6 after we got to choose who supposedly dies in Gears 5.
The canon death was Del, in the novel it says Kait saved James (JD) though, expect them to allow you to take that decision over to Gears 6.
man it would be cool if they had some code that showed who got picked the most and used that to determine who's death is canon
@@sentane8031 Del’s death kinda has to be canon, considering JD is the son of Marcus Fenix, but I know what you mean. Would be kinda cool

Man your Videos are what got me into Gears of War so thanks. Also love your content.
I remember years ago when Gears 2 came out, I had this whole theory about the Locust being humans mutated from Imulsion and hidden due to the fear of public backlash finding out a 75 year long war was fought for nothing. Years later Gears 5 comes out and confirms most of what I theorized and I was so stunned how close to the story I was haha
I don’t believe you for a second
@@Insomniaawtf lack of belief doesn't make it untrue. Guess you just had to be there
@@Insomniaawtf I must agree with the original post. I remember having much the same thoughts when I played the part of GoW2’s campaign set in the New Hope facility. It heavily implies a connection between the Locust and regular humanity.
@@TitusCastiglione1503 I had this same theory as well when I was little. I was 5 when I first played gears of war.
Literally anyone who read the collectible on Ruth in New Hope would definitely smack their controller and say "the fuckers are mutant humans!" Locust deep down know it too, hence why when they attack the place they have quite a lot of Scorchers. Torch and Burn Op.

Yeah. You'd think they would have it be something of intense and open study because the war is over and time for the next generation to learn about the enemies of the past. It's an important thing to know, not knowing is just ignorance and will lead to downfall.

It still makes me tear up to this day.

Edit: There are a few clips of it and one is at 9:48
12:05 That extra 25 pounds has gotta be from that dump truck you carry around on the daily
Clayton isn't the first to technically face a Locust bear handed, in the comics Michael Barrick died a badass death while ripping one of them apart with unarmed while killing a few more with his bare hands
I highly reccomend the Rise of Raam comics. they really give some insights into life in the locust horde. also they show that the drones are not only intelligent but have a high degree of sapience and independent thought. Drones each have unique personalities like humans do, they are able to express complex emotions and they even have a sense of humor. which begs the question, if humans are turned into locust drones through "processing" do those drones retain their original human memories and personalities? and if so, can the horde expect their allegiance?
@NiggaSniffa2005yea
Which is why the coalition should have never revealed locust turning humans into locust cuz it makes no sense they should be able to remember who they were and that's have revenge on The horde for turning them into locust against their will hence why I'm mostly done with the series since they pretty much contradicted and ruined the Lore especially since it was revealed that sires were the ones that gave birth to the first generation of locust and myraah is supposed to be a descendant of the scientist sadly they didn't reveal it that way and they were supposed to still love the idea of the matriarch though plus processing means they just torture people to death especially working them to the bare bone so fuck tc for ruining gears.
@@Elitesolider1023My thoughts exactly. I really can't get into anything past 3 for that reason.

The reasons why the Locust Drones simply charge towards the enemy, is because they are LITTERALLY cannon fodder for the higher ranks, such as Theron Guards, or even generals
It was a soldier in the comics called barraick ,who rip a drone in half.
Never forget barrack ripping a drone in half with his bare hands while getting shot
About drone individuallity, there's actually a comic called "Gears of War: The Rise of RAAM", which shows infighting and quite lot dialogue and friendship between the Locust.

Roanoke, I don't know if you have alread but I would highly recommend reading the Gears comics. Or just specifically Rise of Raam because not only is there a Drone that makes Raam looks small, but also just because it's some of the coolest, badass, and great story telling from the villain perspectives.
Ah yes
*humanity fighting monsters born of a handful of people's greed again, definitely haven't seen this before*
(Edited for clarity, in hindsight it's unfair to blame the many for the actions of the few.)
Oh boy here we go killing (ourselves) again.
Pretty sure most of the people that died in the pendulum wars weren’t the ones that owned the stockpiles of emulsion. Would you consider the 18 year old Americans tricked into fighting for oil by Lockheed Martin and Wraython “greedy” ? It’s never been OUR greed, just a few hundred people’s greed
Typical humanity. They just ruin everything they touch and give me so many reasons to hate most of them. Sometimes I REALLY resent being part of their ilk. We humans are but a failed experiment that has yet to go extinct.
@@adrammelechthewroth6511 there are 600 people who are making the world substantially worse. We know their addresses

Don't forget ukkon the intelligent sire scientist in gears tactics just in case great game
So glad to see one last new Roanoke video before I leave to basic training.
I read some of the books for gears. One funny thing is how they got the idea for the chainsaw bayonet. Marcus, Dom and Tai are escorting civilians. An E-hole pops under a hardware store. Marcus's gun jams and he is forced to use the knife bayonet on a drone that's already close to him. The bayonet breaks after multiple stabs. The drone then starts fighting Marcus barehanded. Dom and Tai try to help but they can't shoot the drone without risk of hitting Marcus. Tai see's a circular saw on the shelf, picks it up and cuts the drone. Then Marcus says "These bayonets suck. We need something that actually cuts these bastards. Maybe we can bolt that thing on a lancer?"
@@PodreyJenkin138 That is also a funny story in the books. Tai, Marcus and Dom are evacuating people. An e-hole pops up in a hardware store. Marcus turns a corner and see's a grub. He charges with his bayonet but it breaks. He gets into a wrestling match with the drone then Tai grabs a rotary saw off the shelf and kills the drone. Then Marcus says "These bayonets suck. We need something that actually cuts these bastards. Im gonna tell that to my dad when we get back. Maybe we can bolt that thing on a lancer?
Even funnier. Cole and Baird are part of the squad that gets to test them. Cole tries to cut a boomer and it jams. A wall falls on them partially burying them. The boomer is looking for Cole. He pops out of the ground, cuts him up the groin and says "Yeah, your singin soprano now bitch". They get back to the centaur and Baird says "Final assessment. Waste of the tax payers money". They forgot to close the hatch and a grub they thought they ran over falls into the vehicle. Cole then slices it in half and Baird says "Okay, reassessment. Anything smaller than a boomer its awesome".
@@PodreyJenkin138 Sadly I forget. This was events across 2 or 3 books. It's mentioned but not the main plot.
Favorite part of gears is when they see a Sierraipede for the first time but no one knew what it was but they already had a name for it 🤣
8:14 Clayton doing that is legendary!
17:21 "They wear boots to protect their feet"
Are the feet a weak point? Are you implying that they got the soft feet? These big, scaly bastards go all this muscles and thick scales, but couldn't evolve to have durable feet? Rip
Starting with the feet.
So... tickle them at their feet? Shit why didn't I think of that? Death by Tickles.
Considering that the Kantus unit never wear shoes, it's obvious they have tough feet, but wear armor just in case for extra mobility, and protection from enemy fire/hazards. Let's face it, humans wear shoes for protection and added speed, Locust would do the same. Not everyone can run barefoot very well.
I prefer the Locust always being on the Sera. Just a underground species that grew along side humanity. As immolation plague worsened in the Deeps the Locust contacted humanity for help. Humanity promised to make a cure, but failed to meet the due date and in turn the Locust were forced to invade the surface. With Mira, she was a hybrid of Locust and human DNA. When she escaped the Locust adopted her into their society and she slow climb the ranks to queen
I liked the one where humanity actually arrived via a colony ship and it went bad for earth and the colony. and basically reset themselves to an iron age. And the locust were the original species.
@@kaiserkiefer1760 that would make an awesome story. As they adapted to their new home Earth became a distant memory, then myth and, after multiple generations, forgotten entirely.
@@kylewalter3111 yeah my man. I think it mentioned that earth went through really bad event but they may still be out there and super advanced. As for Sera It also explains the larger muscle size of every creature because the planet has more gravitational pull due to it being larger and over time the humans started evolving to match their new home. Hence why only some have extreme muscles.
@@kaiserkiefer1760 It would also explain the diversity of the Locust and the stories in the Gears of War Lore about people being kidnapped in the night by pale beasts

Now question remains: Who beats who in a fist fight? Jiralhanae or A Locust drone? In a 1v1...
Jiralhanae, poor drone never stood a chance against the monkey
M O N K E WINS
Well going off one of the Halo 3 trailers: it is possible for a single brute to hold an entire spartan II up, Mjolnir armour on and all, with just one arm. Going off gameplay, it's possible for them to launch entire CRATES filled with weapons sky-high with, and unfortunately speaking from experience, enough force to kill a spartan II upon impact.
Lambent zerker vs brute chieftain
The Jiralhanae is taller (280cm) , has even more weight (680kg) and their streght allows them to pick up spartans and elites with one hand. Their homeworld has twice the gravity of earth, the big monkes are pure muscle.
A Drone is a monsterized human on steroids.
A Bruta is a Gorilla-bear on steroids.
Their religion is called Trinity of Worms if I recall correctly. They don't just worship one.
You kill one in Gears of War 2, then kill another in Gears of War 5...
You do not kill another in g5
The one in gears five isn't one of the worms
For the COG soldier genes part you talked about they went over that mildly in the comics that one could unlock through collecting the collectibles in the various games
@ 10:47 All I hear in my head now is "Get up come on get down with the thickness!" 🤘
hey roanoke, if you’re running out of creatures to cover, maybe try some from fallout games?
Or go with Blacklight virus and it's creations from Prototype games.
Don't forget the Rise of RAAM comics which shows they have a society and even get drunk. That last bit is important. Also, Daddy Skorge even sent a letter to some drones that you can find as a collectable in Gears 5. They just seem dumb because when they speak Tyran it's broken. But they do have their own language that they speak... well, fluently. They also collect their version of COG tags from their fallen comrades.
Hey Roanoke reakon you could do a video on the riftworm in the future?

Hey Roanoke! I recently watched a movie called Blood Red Sky on netflix, and I think you’d get a kick out of picking apart the lore behind the affliction in the movie! It’s like vampires with what I believe to be a more biological origin than mythical :)
I've always liked their design. Their being so swole that you can see the veins popping out of their biceps told you how strong even the average Drone had to be. It made you feel powerful for either killing them or playing as them and killing others. The Sniper Drone with the welder's goggles was my favorite. He reminded me of Riddick, haha.
11:58, now that you said that, I starting to think that I have that, because I've never once broken a bone, and I've fell off 10+ft walls and had my hands and legs bend almost 90°, and I'm not fat, I'm skinny and my parents always ask me why are you so heavy when you look so light

With each family member killed, Clayton grows stronger.
I wonder how Gears of War would’ve went if Myrrah had decided to be peaceful and make an alliance with humanity to fight the Lambent, rather than attack humanity which eventually led to the near total extinction of the Locust entirely, and did lead to the extinction of several species that called the Hollow their home.
My point, I'm pretty sure humanity may have been willing to help them out if she would let Dr. Fenix have more time. Or at least let humanity try to right a wrong instead of punishing innocents because of a few asshats.
@@Bentastic197 I mean she could’ve had her forces surface in urban areas where there was no human population. Probably would’ve been easier to defend against the Lambent by doing that, as well as prevent the swift spread of the Lambent by having a significant amount of Locust remain above ground, with small border forces below ground acting as advanced recon for the main force above ground. By doing that, Fenix would’ve had enough time to perfect the Light Mass Bomb so it would only affect and destroy Lambent cells, rather than dusting anything that had Lambent cells within the body.
Ahhhh yes......Swolder time with locusts
Michael Barrick overpovered drones aswell in the montevado Gears comic book , he literaly ripped a locust apart in his hand.
Rise of raam gives a. Lot of insight in their culture. There are some drones that get “breeding rights”. Locust even have their own alphabet and language. Military ranks etc
You know it’s legitimately sad that most apocalyptic threats to our species are usually brought upon by our own hands; Truly we are own worst enemy.

This is a channel I watch the ads and don’t skip them for because I like the content so much
Are you going to do the spiritual successor of Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, “Back 4 Blood”?
I personally have crashed lots of times and fallen quite alot from more than 6 to 7 feet drops. I now know why I have probably not broken a bone in my life, and it takes alot more effort for me to stay buoyant than most in water, I know how to tread water and different swimming techniques but I always seem to sink below the surface.
Maybe I am just lucky and bad at swimming, but maybe not I'm only 5,9 and I have low fat and average muscle mass but I way more than expected and my BMI never seems to make sense and comes back inaccurate.
So it all makes sense now.... Apparantly I'm a Gear.... But I'm more UIR tbh,
Juicy! That’s an intriguing explanation of the extra Locust heartbeat. It’s less resource intensive than having two hearts, but still adds more organ redundancy than humans have.
As for Berserkers, I think they’re only blind and dumb because they’re kept in ultra-dark prisons for most of their lives. They’re clearly cunning and more vicious than most Locust, so the Berserkers were likely too dangerous to be left free. Myrrah and the drones would therefore lock up the Berserkers from an early age, which would stunt their eyes and social development, to the point that they can barely see and cannot talk. Any Berserkers who could no longer breed would be sent to the surface as troops.
And Boomers are just mentally stunted by whatever makes them grow larger. Which means that RAAM and SRAAK could’ve had a half-expressed Boomer gene, which made them larger without affecting their intelligence. Now that’s scary.
I definitely like exploring and explaining mutants and trans-human enemies in Games. The locust and half the shit in Resident Evil being prime examples. This is a time I'm also exploring Vampire lore and non-modern "humanoid monsters" such as Lovecraft and early sci-fi human-like beasts. I must request Twilight Vampires and Werewolves/Skin-Changer physiology Explained.
Yes, I hope you read it. Twilight has the oddest and most introverted take on Vampires that seems both impossible and upon some inspection, believable. My theory is that they have been taken over by a silicon based "fluid" akin to a plasmodium and can resist most damage, being so tough. Extreme strength or force can break them apart but only destroying or burning kills the body.
Just about the Locust of Gears and their "schlocky and radical evolution" in the series, I did like them esp. in Gears 1 and 2. While Gears 4 and 5 just "over-does" them in a kind of over-evolved, exploited way, I think the reality in-franchise that they're man-made freaks is deep. Mutants including Witchers, weaponized vampires, etc. always go bad or act in their own power. The idea that a transhuman army is linked to some genetic telekinesis to a ruler and if said ruler/Queen dies a related female must take her place is both extreme and believable. I like a simple theory in this too: Myrrha was a narcissist who hated the humans and so she used the Proto-Locust and experimented on them with Hollow Creatures' DNA and her own. She created a kind of hormonal or pheromone control method. She may also have tinkered around seeking immortality or a successor too.
Likely she set up the Horde to function without her but it would be interesting if this "hive mind" could be systemically killed. After all, after Gears 3 this problem + the new and further mutated Locust was the problem. ... This is interesting. I suspect surviving nations and settlements have enough power to beat back a Swarm threat. The key is either making peace or totally destroying the hive-mind "matriarch" command, even as a gene in the "hive" itself.
"Serve the Queen" - Raam, General (from killer instinct)
Honestly I'm the same way. In reference to around 12:00 when you're talking about your build. I'm 6'4 300 pounds but looking at me you would never guess I weigh that much. Most people guess 240/260. I'm not extremely overweight but I do have some chonk on me. Never broken a bone in my life even though I've taken some pretty harsh falls/injuries in sports. Maybe I'll get checked for this, double bone density thing.

Could you do a Gears of Lore episode on "Ukkon" from Gears Tactics?
I'm interested to hear about your explanation for not only HOW Ukkon can speak proper intelligent English, but also how he's able to regenerate unlike normal Locust variants.
In Raam comics the Locust can have compete sentences and their military structure and hierarchy is more complex. They just didn’t want to talk to humans and all. The regeneration is most likely from his experiments.
He was the lead locust scientist
I think it’s meantioned that Ukkon used to be human and was essentially a intelligent Sire who had very unusual reaction. His regeneration was from these experiments.
My man doing all my favorite games. It seems like every few months I find new ones.
So it’s funny me and my brothers often theorized the drones seemed more human than the other types of locusts.
Could you do a video on the biochemistry of how grunts utilize methane for the respiratory system?
I only played Gears 1-3. So I understood that Mira was working with Fenix to try to end the Lambency (which started the whole war in the first place. It wasn't the Locusts wanting to exterminate Humanity per se, but more so survive the infection that was destroying their ranks).
But with the added background that:
A) Mira (being Human which I always had questions about) was one of those children at the facility in Gears 2, survived AND was able to reproduce still, thus producing the first iteration of Drones and becoming essentially their Queen Mother.
B) Because of her exposure to Rust Lung, which is just the Human form of Lambent infection before expiration and turning into a human glowie, and because of genetics (considering that the Locust are essentially a genetic mutation brought on by Rust Lung) it now makes even MORE sense why Fenix's anti-Lambent weapon on the secret Island in Gears 3 was able to not just kill Lambent infected, but Locusts too.
However, Mira always seemed more the nefarious type (I, for some time, thought it was Fenix's mother who'd gone missing when he was a child, and somehow she had life prolonging capabilities brought on by whatever the Locust had... Trust me when I say that it wasn't feasible, but it was the best explanation, and as to why she already knew so much about Marcus and his Father). Gears 5 seems to provide light on the fact that she's not just some evil woman, but just an individual doing what she does out of both desperation and tragedy, being the victim of human experimentation...
You should read the gears of war comics if you haven't already. It will probably help with your knowledge about the locust. Not saying you don't know what you are talking about, but there is so much more that gets explained, mostly about the main characters but there is a lot of other stuff about the locust too. But this was a very good and educational video about the locust.
I love physiology and enhancement videos. Please do some about certain races from Star Wars and Warhammer 40k like the Wookiee’s and Orcs.
I also absolutely loved the Halo, Titanfall, and Warhammer Gene-Seed videos you did. Human Enhancement is incredibly interesting and I would love to see how you would elaborate on how you think we could do that in real life.
I second a video on 40k’s orks
Roanoke, please make a video about the TaoTie from the great wall.
Every time I see a vid from Papa Ro, my day just gets slightly more easier for me to deal with. Thank you, Roanoke! :D
You know… thinking about how some locusts are just converted humans, for all we know General RAAM could’ve just been some guy who wanted to grill.
The bell hasn't worked since the tower burned down and Quasimoto has been living at the homeless shelter
I'm begging ya Roanoke, do a video on the Orks from 40k
2021 is full of surprises. Gears of Lore!!! On the Locust Drone! Yes.
What's next? A Dead Space remake?
>BOOMER
>Impacted intelligence
>Why am I not surprised?
Crazy right?
@@RoanokeGaming Ceazy how nature do that
Hey Roanoke! I as looking through your channel and couldn't find a Species/Anatomy explored vid for one of my favorite alien species of all time: The Hive from the Destiny games.
Since the next big DLC is centered on them, I think it'd be cool to see your take on what exactly is going on with my favorite screamy bug people. Rock on!
I'm glad he agrees that the Swarm is nowhere near as cool as the Locust.
