How Are Foreigners Treated In Polish Restaurant?? Absurd Service

- While I was travelling in Poland after my village tour and interacting with locals I decided I wanted to visit a wooden restaurant to try the traditional Polish food. I arrived at a town called Ustroń, Europe. The town seemed quite busy with local markets and touristic shops. I came across a wooden restaurant so I decided to check the place out. I had traditional soup which was really good. For my main course I ordered beef which had smoked ham inside served with dumplings and the smallest amount of gravy.
Watch the video to find out how are foreigners treated and what do I think of traditional Polish food..

Dzien dobry, recommendations for GOOD traditional Polish food?
All good for You 💪🇵🇱
Żurek, Pierogi (dumplings) many kinds with meat, cottage cheese or fruits, Bigos, Kwaśnica soup, Kartacze (a kind of noodle with meat inside),Schabowy (poilsh version of wiener schnitzel, Gołąbki (minced meat with rice wrapped with cabbage leaves). You can try Kaszanka sausage. Sękacz cake.Polish ginger bread from Toruń.
You must try "zapiekanka" i love this food in Poland, but I can't tell you where to find her.
Mostly an ordinary food stall
I forgot about Flaki.
For me, "zapiekanka" is the most traditional food in Poland.
I am afraid, that you have fallen into tourist traps. It is not a trap for foreigners, but for Polish people from cities. So for good polish food, you need a better restaurant. It was not an original wooden house, but it was built a few years ago in a touristy town surrounded by market stalls with crapy things for a tourist.

The service in entire country went bad. Restaurants barely survived pandemic, and now they are getting around 300% rise on bills for electricity and gas. So they are firing employees and are left with skeleton crews in many places. Waiting time, service, overall experience is much worse than 4-5 years ago. Of course it's not the case in all of places, but I surely noticed it in many restaurants.
To be honest service in 90% of restaurants was always terrible in Poland, even worse than in France.
In America or the UK this would be called an insult.
Unfriendly & bored is sadly common in Poland sometimes i feel as if they would rather have no guests at all.
If you feel unwelcomed as a guest thats a real pain in the but, why spending my money there?

After the pandemic, it is difficult to find good workers. Product prices in Poland are like those in western Europe. It's easy to complain when you don't know the realities.
@@quigonjinn3567 Oh, that's basically all the customer service in Poland. This is just our nature. It comes to more natural approach, not to be always smiled, and having fake courtesy. The title is definitely an overexaggeration. The servers were just busy, I'm pretty sure the bad service had nothing to do with you being a foreigner.
I guess you think that every customer there is getting the same looks as that woman gave him @11:28 and @13:02
No, however busy you are, that is not the way you present food to your customer. But, maybe, they made a mistake in the kitchen, he had to wait very long, so the girl was afraid that he might complain and she cannot answer in English. See how she was looking to his table when later on she was passing to the next table.
@@NoLimitNo In their defence, I would probably gave him the same look. Probably as every other Pole. It's not like we're racist and are looking at you from an upper side - we're just plainly curious since we don't have many foreigners in our country, especially at countyside.
I myself am from a big city and whenever I see a foreigner I just cannot fight the urge to look at him for a split second. So just be aware that this look isn't supposed to be rude.

This service standard is pretty common in random restaurants in Poland. Sometimes I feel like if you just want to eat something out, get it relatively quick and cheap, you better go for fast foods, if you want to try something traditional or “more exclusive” you need to find more expensive and higher quality restaurant. Their service standards are usually pretty good. Going through google review on local restaurants might help you out with finding good place for you. Good luck and enjoy your time here.

Great one again from Ustroń is at the very top of a mountain Równica above the city - you can easily go there by a car too if you need.
There are actually 2 restaurants, one is Zbójnicka Chata which is OK but the great one is called Dwór Skibowki - it has a GREAT view from the mountain and great food.

Rolada śląska (Silesian) is typical for Silesian province, but in other provinces popular as well.
Rolada can be easily made wrong if cook is not experienced enough.
You need to visit "karczma's" that have "hunting dishes" with venison as well. There are polish dishes as well and they are really awesome.

Traditional Polish food is not spice heavy, it's a hearty food that was meant to feed and provide sustenance for the old world which was a tough way of life did not have the access to the variety of spices that we are now all used to. You will find more flavors in the new age restaurants. Unfortunate that the service was sub par as we're known for our hospitality.
The silesian dumplings are made of patatoes and of patato starch.
pyszne jedzenie, takie głęboko mrożone
Firstly, it is not a wild animal fur but domestic cattle fur. I know you may feel being ignored by waitress but this might not be necessarily as you consider. Polish teens from small towns and villages are usually shy. They are not used to speak English and deal with foreign tourists. They are afraid of conversation in English.
I think the service was feeling shy beacuse they didn't know English and also they weren't very happy to be on camera. I think it would have been polite to ask if the team was OK with filming. In busy tourist places sometimes you can wait long for your food, I've once waited for an hour for my meal in a restaurant on Hel and they also did not appologize. So they probably treat like that all their customers: foreigners and Polish. The main problem I see here is that the waiter's role is not only to provide the food but also to make the customer feel welcome. And they didn't even smile at you. They certainly failed it.
Hi André,
Thanks for the nice video from my country. Thanks also for the warning against this restaurant and honest feedback, I will definitely not go there when I am passing through. Well done.
Mate you've got to dodge these generic lager beers and try the craft IPAs in Poland, there are more decent ones to choose from here than even back in the UK! There are micro-breweries everywhere. I guess maybe not in the rural area where you are, that's why they gave you Warka haha.

Hey Andre I think, that the girl who served food was really shy, she acted like it.
11:53 when I was in one pub which I love it is called Buffalo in Kazincbarcika, Hungary. Once, only once I waited for my second course for 40 minutes since I had finished the first course. They told me just after some 25 minutes that the dis did not succeed and they had to make another one. That was the reason for such a long waiting. :) Not I am laughing at the situation. :)
Some etiquette rules for the men: - When entering a building, remove your hat. - Always remove your hat in a restaurant. - Take your hat off if you sit down at a table to eat.
The second waiteres was just super shy I think :D
Yes. Don’t forget people don’t like being filmed and put on RUclips
Possibly. If that is the case, she might thing of other job then waitress. The last time I check, waitress is suppose to comunicate with customers freely. That is like having veterinarian scared of animals.
@@pacechcz normally people do not record waitresses, so what are you talking about... she didn't sign up for being on a video on yt.

Obsługa to jedno wielkie XD... Kosmos.
Come here to Hungary in our town you to wait sometimes for 40 minutes.
If you need spicy then ask for spices, because not everyone lika sipcy food. That girl who put your food on the table edge,I can tell ,she was just afraid of you.

Aight, sooo I would like to say that when I accidentaly saw one of your videos about your visit in Poland I was a bit afraid, how people are going to treat you. But it was surprise for me, and I'm soooo sooo happy that everyone is smiling at you and they are nice and kind for you. And I want to say thank you, because people from around the world can now see how nice our country is, and that the situation with war is not touching us personally :)

U should try "bigos" that's the most popular polish food
Long waiting times may be caused by an incomplete crew of chefs. It's about maximizing profits at the expense of customers' time. The reduced number of customers in restaurants after the pandemic has magnified such situations. Probably normal waiting time is 25-30 minutes.
Tak. Problem jest powszechny w wielu krajach po pandemii. Brak personelu , nawet pilotów brak. Wiele lotów po prostu znika na lotnisku.
I have one piece of advice, if you eat something in Poland in a restaurant, take your hat off even if you are outside.

It was steamed and apple flavoured cabbage what you ate in Hungary. I hope you enjoyed Hungary much, and you'll come back with good feelings.
Karczma is not restaurant, its quite local food. I can recommend żeberka (ribs) or golonka (pork leg shank).
I personally love that food so much. The red cabbage is great. As a child I hated it, nowadays I love it so much. Here in Hungary we love the red cabbage as well. The girl must have not liked it to be filmed. A lot of people these days hate to be in the camera they try to void it and because they do not know English they will not tell you just show you they do not appreciate this. :) I had similar situation with me and my Polish friends in Czech Republic. They simply did not give me anything because we spoke Polish. I could not understand why they did that to us. So we had to go to another place to eat and have something for a drink.

I don't understand what is wrong with the service? Foreigners are treated like everybody else. The restaurant looks nice and clean and the food looks good too. It's not a fast food restaurant, so you have to wait a little. As I see you had your soup and beer in ten minutes. People usually go to restaurant with friends and family, so they feel time differently. It looks like they made the food freshly, so it's took some time. You should Google the traditional foods what you want to try. The staff was helpful and the Polish people are friendly. Not everybody speaks English and not everybody like to be filmed without permission. If your standards are so high, do your research, prepare better, go to a more expensive restaurant and pay more.

You can clearly see food isn't anything special enough to wait an hour for a damn thing. As for service noone even gave him menu and he needed to ask waiter to come to him to make order, which is a terrible start especially consiedering fact they don't have that much people to serve, on top of that waitress didn't even give him plate, just putted it wherever on table and ran away. You can't really even call it service can you?
It's year 2022 if you want to work as a waitress you need to be prepared that people may film and photograph stuff, if you are shy it's just not a job for you. If you are used to this bad service maybe it's time to find some new restaurant and see how different it is when staff actually pay some attention to customers

Well even in Czech restaurants it takes sometimes an hour before you'll get the food. Especially when you order outside of daily menu. And the service lady who brought you the food seemed young. She can be inexperienced or she could be just nervous because of the camera. I mean she could be nervous, because you're a foreigner too, I would be as well if I would be serving Czechs all day and suddenly I would have to switch to English, especially on camera. If your food doesn't arrive too long you can leave restaurant without payment and this is not considered as a trespass. A restaurant is obliged to inform you if some dish is not available within 20-25 minutes.

Putting plate on the side of the table - yeah, it happens when they're in hurry... it doesn't change the fact, that i'ts rude. I hate that too.
I wonder if the waitress was simply shy because she did not speak English or perhaps she thought putting the plate just in front of you (and showing up in the frame) might interfere with your recording. People in Poland tend to be very sensitive that way.
