Thing about the legendary animals is that the carcass/pelt is perfect no matter what, so you may as well blast the hell out of them. I always use express/explosive rounds in either the springfield or bolt action rifle.
If you use a lasso on a 3/2 star animal when you have it lassoed you can go to it and a kill button will appear if you push it you kill it and it won’t lose any stars pro tip
Got a question, is there a way to get back a legendary pelt, I killed the wolf and the game glitched after I killed it and when I go to the trapper I can't get the reward but the wolf is showing on my map that I killed him

Use the r1/RB button to get an easy headshot with the bow. You literally won't miss even a bird since the arrow tracks the spot you marked lol
