The story of The Hanger Project: www.kirbyallis... - Хобби
Kirby I’m in my sixties and it’s a pleasure to see a well mannered young man such as yourself. Your professionalism and passion is to be admired. Best to you , your family and the hanger project.
Thank you, Nelson!
Kirby, your content is one of the best on youtube. I think you have a lot of passion for your topics and you come across as an absolute expert. For those of you who really want to learn how to take care of your wordrobe, there is no better place.
wolfgang9008 Thanks!! Spread the word for us!
I agree
He's not one of the best, concerning shoes alone he's the best...let alone the entire line of documentaries and reviews for every aspect of gentleman's style. What sets him apart is the incredible thoroughness of care for your wardrobe investments.
Loved this video even though I’m viewing it 6 years after its creation. Thank you for everything you do for the dapper gentleman!
Slowly encouraging my hubs to start paying attention to these details. He’s loving this channel.
Ma'am. Your. Husband. Truly. Values. Your. Care. And. Concern. !!!
Im on the other spectrum, I have to convince the Mrs to be cool with the hobbies
I was very happy to see a straight man caring about his appearance. Looking sharp, sir.
What an honest man you are Kirby, hope your business does well.
Kirby, thank you. You've answered all of the questions that I had regarding shoe trees. I'll be replacing my shoe trees which are obviously to large. Thanks.
Hanger Project cider trees cost 35 bucks and the similar set at my local store goes for 120! 100%happy with the Hanger set. I ordered the XL and they fit my size 12 wide Allen Edmund shoes perfectly.
Yes i agree Kirby your videos are simply excellent as is your personal style
I really enjoy learning from you
All the very best
Thanks, John!
I hope to one day get to your caliber of dress. Everything is quality and so well put together.
3:16 excellent and very in-depth analysis
Another excellent, informative video Kirby, thank you.
Some shoe trees are just as beautiful as the shoes
Purchased my first, roughly $40 pair of cedar shoe trees in Asia, and I thought they were pretty decent. But now I'm thankfully and regrettably seeing all the major differences that make them pale in comparison to the ones shown in the vid. Just shows that a higher price tag doesn't always equate to better quality. Will snatch a few of these shoe trees once I'm back home in the States.
This was a great educational video! I've been using newspaper until now. I will go out hunting for a cedar wood shoe tree today! Thank you!
You are very well spoken, thank you. I didn't realise that one could tuck-in the flap of one's jacket, thank you for that. M.
Hi Kirby, I love your channel and I watch them over and over again. I can't believe that some men have to be told how to shine their shoes. I learned everything about men's clothing and grooming. My Father was a very well known tonsorial artist in my city of Providence Rhode Island. I learned how to shine shoes, shave, tie a necktie, fold a suit jacket and so on by watching him and my Grandfather. These things are so important and necessary. You are providing knowledge to men who have no clue what to do. I can't get enough of your videos and I find what you do is very noble. Thanks so much for everything. Sincerely, Steven Degli Angeli
Love your details the on functionality of a shoe tree, a must have Element when caring for well made shoes, just recently purchased my first pair of Crockett and Jones, and decided not to wear them, until I bought the shoe tree last that was made for that shoe,
I recently (a few days ago) found and started to watch your videos and have made made a purchase. I acquired a few pairs (LaSalle, Delray, etc) of Allen Edwards shoes and was interested in "bringing them back to life". Your videos are very informative.
Hi Sir Kirby i’ve just watched 5 of your videos and i already learned a lot about being well dressed, for me the best is how you take care all of your shoes 👍 and i’m only searching youtube for a different kind of knot on how to tie my son’s shoes. Thanks and more power to your programs Happy New Year to you and the Family ❤️☮️✝️🇺🇸🇨🇦🇵🇭🖖🏼🙂👽👍
Thank you! Search for our Berutti Knot video! And make sure you subscribe!
i love your channel, i'm a young man 32 that just got accepted into university i study music and i am a jazz guitarist and i've always wanted to dress like the jazz masters that i love, miles davis, kenny burrell and so on, i had some successful gigs so i made some cash to invest in some classic menswear, working hard to get to the point that i can go to savile row choose a tailor and get some suits made i'm very much into tweed to be honest.
your channel is a great help and inspiration
thanks and keep up
Great video. I appreciate your pragmatic approach to this subject. It’s about the design and the fit. Definitely a diminishing return per $1 spent after you get beyond the $35 price point.
I am LOVING your videos.
Thank you, useful shoe tree sizing info.
Hi Kirby. I don't have many expensive shoes, but I love taking care of them. They are used daily. I use nourishing cream followed by wax around the toe area. My question is "Do I always need to remove previously applied wax every time when I apply cream to the toe?" Thank you and good luck!
I really enjoy your videos. Your soft, eloquent comments are real pleasure to listen. It is a fresh breath in today's world to have somebody like you available on You Tube. Great job. By the way I have a question for you which has nothing to do with the content of this video but I have seen on other video. I have been teched by my parents long time ago that it is inappropriate to shake other man hand with other hand in the pocket and in general keeping hands in the pocket being in the presence of others is not correct (lack of respect in some way). I have noticed that in USA this trend is very common at least based on what I see in TV. What is your opinion?
Lasted shoe trees really are the cream of the crop. I can't speak about shoe trees from bespoke makers, however I own a few pairs of St Crispin's MTM and for 1/3 of the cost of bespoke you can get a lasted shoe tree with many features of bespoke.
BEXLEY PARIS sells great cedar split toe shoe trees for 15 dollars a piece if you buy five. I use them for all my high-end shoes.
Hi Kirby, thank you for the great video
After watching the video, I knew that I just ended up with a larger pair of shoe trees for my shoes. These shoe trees still fit, though, just take more time to get in the shoes.
But this pair of shoe trees is expensive and I cant return it, so my question is: will they cause huge damage to my shoes in the long run? Thanks.
I'm staring at the Goyard suitcase
Kirby I just bought my first pair of Thursday Boots Executive Oxford after seeing your RUclips video review on them. My question is, should a new pair of shoes be polished right out of the box or should one first break in the shoe for a while before applying conditioner and polish?
Quick question, well I have two questions. First question would be regarding a link to set Medium sized Shoe Tree since I wear the same size shoe as you. As well as if you are free sometime this year to grab lunch or smoke a cigar? I currently live out here in Dallas TX and am currently studying for my Instrument through Commercial ratings to be a Professional Pilot. Not sure if you'll ever see this, but I can only think it best to say thank you by purchasing one or the other.
Thanks for all the info Kirby. My question is that if the Ceder shoe tree absorbs moisture, is it necessary to put it out in the sun every once a while so that it can loose that moisture?
Wood cant take Full Sun they will broken, you home humidity is too moisture ? If no Just put on home some place , Normal regular home no need put outside.
Hi Kirby! Thanks for the video - super helpful for beginner shoe nerds like myself. I wanted to ask your opinion on using regular shoe trees (like the $36 cedar one) for boots as well? Ankle boots and knee high boots. Do you think they should work just fine or is it crucial for boots to use boots-specific shoe trees? They’re much more expensive it seems (on your site at least). Thanks so much!
Dear Kirby,
Thanks for such a great video. On a side yet related note, what is the best product to moisturise and nourish a shoe's lining and interior to prevent tearing and damage from perspiration?
Thanks again!
I'm not Kirby but Leather Honey works well for me. Saphir has their conditioner, rejuvenater, but it is for the outside.
Fantastic video, I have dress shoes in EU size 40.5 but only shoe tree choices are 40 or 41 should I do size up or down?(shoe tree has split front and spring on the body)
seeing shoes on top of a desk gives me mental breakdown
joke aside - very high quality content
Thanks for the video ! I thought that the the entire say...almost half of the front of the shoe needed to be fully filled in to help smoothen out the creasing because I notice in my shoe's there was some room near the creasing. I noticed you said it has to basically flatten and straighten it out rather then fill out, is this correct?
Great video as always. I have about 6 pairs of standard Jos a Banks cedar shoe trees, no split toes. I was lucky to pick them up on a crazy deal years back when they were sub $10 each. My question is would it make sense to slowly upgrade those shoe trees to the split-toe shoe trees you recommended?
Brandizzle88 I certainly think it would be worth upgrading. Even if it’s just a pair a year. Shoe trees are incredibly durable. There is no reason you couldn’t use them the rest of your life.
The Hanger Project That's a good idea! No need to go all in at once.
-Brandon
Hi, congratulations on your channel. It is very good. I have been learning a lot.
My question is; Do you have plastic travel trees only in Red color? please advise.
Keep it up. You are the best.
Great info, but the presentation is stellar.
If I am a teacher, poor and old, what shoes should I buy and how should I maintain them so they can last for ages? Greetings from Mexico City, Mexico!
Buy no shoes, get a sugsr mama to buy them for you !!!
Shake your money maker for her 😋
Check out thrift stores and Ebay for used high-end shoes and learn how to restore them. Check out this channel as well as The Elegant Oxford (now available in Spanish).
Great video. I'm looking at the Wellington Cedar Shoe Tree on your website. The heel portion looks narrow. Didn't you mention that that isn't a good thing?
What shoe tree would you recommend for a dress boot?
Once again great content Kirby, can u please explain how to mend nicks and minor cuts from leather sole as one of my fav shoe recently got nick and a fine cut on the sole. Thanks
Kirby, thank you for the outstanding videos. I have a difficult time finding quality shoe trees. Can you recommend a quality craftsman?
Kirby's online store carries quality, reasonably priced shoe trees!
Can boot trees fix creasing, or are they only for preventing it? Thanks, I really enjoyed the video.
Hi Kirby, when inserting shoe trees in shoe. Do you let the front split or do you bring it together before sticking it in?
Hi Kirby, I have two questions. Firstly, is it recommended to leave shoe trees in the shoe permanently when not being worn?
Secondly, I wear, I own a lot of boots. I find boot trees very hard to come by and when I do find them (usually when I travel through Europe) they are very expensive. Do you think it ok to use standard shoe trees in boots until such time as they can be replaced with full boot trees? Best regards
KurJan&Urbano what kind of boots? With like Chelsea or chukka boots, it won’t hurt the shoe if you use a normal shoe tree. And yes, when you’re not wearing it, tree it. With like, western boots, I know a lot of people use trees for the shaft and not the upper where your foot is. I have also seen some who use trees with no regard to the shaft
Yes the other commenter was right. Long term storage with a cider tree will deter bugs eating your shoes up. Not much likes cider in nature but it smells nice. Boots with regular trees will keep the main body right.
They're better than not using them. I use the Red Wing boot trees (quite expensive for what they are) and they work well. I'm going to give the Woodlore ones a try in the future given they're almost half the cost (and probably make them for Red Wing)
Kirby I’m a huge Gaziano & Girling fan and have a half dozen pair. Their shoes trees and gorgeous and more than proficient but they are outrageously expensive @ close to $200 USD. Who makes the best cedar tree for the money in your opinion?
Kirby, excellent information and polished presentation! The one question I had been searching for an answer is: what is the difference between the double barrel with adjustable side and a single barrel with split toe. You address the latter but not the former. Thanks!
Hi Kirby, great video! I have a few pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes as well as your fantastic Ultra shoe trees. What is the difference between the Ultra shoe trees and the Allen Edmonds full toe shoe trees and would the full toe shoe trees from Allen Edmonds fit non AE shoes even though there is no split toe on the AE full toe shoe trees?
Hey Kirby,
How would you go about removing a cream polish + wax. For example, I applied a darker brown cream to a mid brown shoe. I'm not entirely sure I like the end result. How would I go about safely recovering the initial finish (i.e. remove the polish)?
Kirby, what are your thoughts on using cedar shoe trees on both leather and non-leather athletic shoes?
Off-topic: What do you think of on-seam trouser pockets? Do you prefer jetted ones?
Hi Kirby, a very informative and great video. But I do have a question from personal experience. I own a few pairs of shoe trees. When I bought them, the salesmen said that I shouldn’t leave them in my shoes too long. My shoes would get flat he said. Is this true, or can you store the shoes you don’t often wear with shoe trees in them? Because I think the purpose of the shoe trees is to not let your shoes bend. Hope to hear from you.
Jonne Noorland Totally untrue....
Hello Kirby,
Hope that all is well.
I have collected a good amount of shoes by now, and I was wondering: do you need a pair of shoe trees for each pair or can you have three or four, put them on when you're done using the shoes and, some days after, put them in another pair you've worn?
Thank you in advance :)
Duarte BC
Damn! Nice shoes. I've always thought that wholecuts look a bit weird on account of the line where the laces go (I can't remember the correct term) just terminates in the middle of the leather. The brogueing hides this very nicely.
May I ask what shoes are you wearing at the end of the video? I love it!
That was great. Here in Prague, shoe trees are all of the same type - probably the same manufacturer. They retail for about 35 euro. They are all made in China. As the purpose is to keep the shape, and manage moisture, I'm surprised that some high end brands ( eg Crockett and Jones ) have their highest priced shoe trees lacquered ie not natural wood. The lacquer will form a waterproof barrier, and defeats the moisture management goal. Remember, the moisture on the inside of the shoe is sweat, ie it is salty. It's the salts that do the real damage as they will continue to dry out the leather after the shoes are touch dry.
Wow my comment was featured. Thanks!
COMPNOR-97 Thanks for your comments!
What should I do to avoid white layers near the folding.. Who can I get a perfect shine
I have a question about the shoe trees. On the Woodlore site I saw boot shoe trees. Is it worth investing in boot specific trees or just use the same regular shoe trees for both? I tend to wear primarily boots and rarely more classic shoes or sneakes and also favor Chelsea boots
Hi Kirby,
I recently read that occasionally sanding cedar shoe trees will refresh some of the desirable qualities of the cedar. Would you recommend sanding a shoe tree?
Robert Pearson I’ve tried it once or twice... but never found the benefit worth the work. We do sell a cedar oil that can be used to reoil the wood, which is more effective and easier. But the only benefit is aeronautic. Wood just as absorbing, but not as aeromatic.
I have a question about the video. I wish you would be able to demonstrate the benefits of the "Garment Brush" in a video, I mean a dusty garment maybe wool that has never seen a brush and the process to really see how it works and the before and after shoot.
Very nice video. Informative
I think is too late to ask.. but I just bought a new pair of Dean Chelsea boots from Paul Evans. Im having a lot of troubles finding information about boot trees and there are only a few companies that sell it, the price is almost as twice. I ended up using a regular shoe trees for my boots. I wonder if I should take a boot trees instead. Nice videos !
I was able to get 4 pairs of affordable quality cedar tall boot trees by combining a mult-buy discount and a new customer discount.
Great video. I have a question. I own your wellington split shoe trees. I just bought my first pair of dress boots (Allen edmunds dalton wing-tip boots) are the wellington shoe trees okay? Or do you recommend the boot shoe trees with the high heel (not sure if that is the correct term for the back section of the shoe tree)
Thanks in advance
The shaft!
Hello Kirby..... Is there a right and a left shoe tree or can a generic tree be used in either shoe? Thank you and Happy New Year.
Can you do a review of amiral gloss?
Hello Kirby! many thanks for all your videos and because you sharing a lot with ass. I have a question about shoe tree, kan i let the shoe tree sitting in the shoe a few months or will shoe tree damageing the shoe?
Thank you so much
I got a 6 pair set off of Amazon for like 50 bucks. They look identical to those. They’re also cedar.
Is there any thing against the sparing use of essential oils as a part of the process? I am thinking a couple of drops on a make-up wipe in each shoe in the gap between the heel and toe parts of the tree.
Take a shot every time he said "I look forward to sending you a pair of our soverin grade shoe laces."
Gotta keep the lights on somehow!
Ooooooooh ! A free pair of shoe laces ! Is it Christmas already ?
Can you do a suit/garmet bag & hangar video, Discussing benefits of cedar hangars and higher end suit bags.
Hi Kirby, how about dress boots? should I use the same shoe trees? I did not see many for boots on the market.
I have a couple old pairs of leather children's shoes. They have sagged a bit and I was wondering if there was a shoe tree for these, quite small, shoes to give them some shape back? I also have an old pair of leather skates and was wondering about shoe trees for taller shoes like a skate or boot? Thanks!
Kirby, what if I rotate by shoes daily. It is still important to have shoe trees?
💜 Awesome, thanks for this! ✌ 💜
Kirby,
Did you ever get your cowboy boots from the fitting about 6 miss ago?...I watched the fitting video last week but can't find the finished boots
-Ryan
ryan robicheaux he’s still in line for his pair
Should I tie my shoes when the tree is in the shoe? Also should I shine my shoes with the tree inserted?
I always tie my shoes after I insert my shoe trees. And I prefer to shine my shoes with the trees inside. You need something to rub up against. You can either insert your hand into the shoe or use a shoe tree.
Just bought a pair of chukka boots. Do I insert the shoe trees before or after tying the laces? Or is it fine to leave them unlaced with the shoe trees inserted?
For double monks and for loafer should I go with split toe or a full toe shoe tree
Hi Kirby, is there a way to take out creases in shoes if they have never had shoe trees inserted?
you will need to get the leather to soften up, probably using steam or warm water and then let them dry with shoetrees inside. watch some restauration videos online, you'll see
daft mell thank you
Is it bad if you use the trees if they are super tight as you mentioned? Ordered a 2 pack off of Amazon and they are quite tight
is acetone liquid useful in cleaning and refurbishing show-upper?
Lirby, I have several pairs of relatively ($1,000+) expensive snip toe cowboy boots. Does anyone make a shoe tree for snip toes or is a split toe tree just fine? I really enjoy all of your videos even though I seldom wear street
shoes.
Thank you!
What kind of shoe tree should use for leather trainer ?
You play this song on a lot of videos, Kirby. I must know who plays it!
How do you polish a shoe that is either hand-painted or has a color gradient, for example a darker tone towards the back and the toes? Should you use polish in the lightest color of the shoe, multiple colors or even black on none black shoes to reapply the darker tone?
TheAestheticGod neutral Is safe
I would like to know how long may a shoe tree stay in a shoe ? Will there be any damages if it stays for a long period of time ?
If I purchase second hand shoes and would the foot impression from the previous user on the cork bed adjust to mine with usage? Or how else to fix that or minimise it without having to recork?
Any recommendations for getting shoe trees for dress boots? I find that sometimes it can be hard to slide the heel part into the shoe and some shoe shops like church's have recommended using travel shoe trees with a narrow heel. Thank you
Will you ever carry boot trees? Very hard to find.
I have trees for all my dress and formal shoes but I can't find trees with the volume to fill out casual Derbys (e.g. Barker 'Nairn') or for work boots, not even the critical part of the vamp which flexes when walking.
Are there any videos or methods demonstrated for correcting shoe creases?
Check The Elegant Oxford, on utube!
I've just discovered shoe trees , can I get rid of creases using shoe trees?
I think you missed a great source of shoe trees, especially for the young, who are just beginning to establish a wardrobe, and are a bit short of cash: the goodwill, or other thrift store. There are people in this world who think that when they can no longer smell the aroma of cedar, it's time to buy new shoe trees. They send the old, "worn out" shoe trees to the goodwill stores, where we, who have a piece of fine grit sandpaper, can, in just a few seconds, have them smelling like new!✨ Just don't tell too many people, or our source for good, but cheap shoe trees, will dry up!
Have a very happy New year!!
