    The main difference between Morgoth and Sauron in their style of dwelling was that both Utumno ("Hell") and Angband were fortresses dug into mountains and then down deep into the earth; Morgoth used Arda itself as his shield in all times, and ever preferred to dwell in the darkness of the lands into which he infused so much of his great power. Sauron, however, was more ostentatious, as were his servants. The fortresses of Carn Dum and Barad-dur were mighty and towering displays of dark and cruel power and strength, that rose high above those who approached in dark majesty, and dread - and to a lesser degree so were all the fortresses of Sauron. The Maiar who had been known as Mairon had an ego, and a sick love for lording himself over and terrifying others and it showed in how he preferred to present himself vs his old master; for Morgoth was always more cunning than Sauron, more willing to hide his works so as to do the greatest evil work with them at just the right moment.
    I think this was a great weakness of Sauron, and that Utumno, and Angband probably put Barad-dur to shame.

    Hey friends, I've used a new setup and mic to record this video, so it might sound a bit different to my past recordings. It still requires some fine tuning, and so hopefully the quality will keep improving in the coming weeks! I'd also love to hear your thoughts on Mordor; Do you think this land ever recovered after the War of the Ring? And how did the fortress of Barad-Dur compare with Utumno and Angband, the fortresses of Morgoth?
    *ALSO* I forgot to mention that I'll be posting another video on Mordor in the few weeks, discussing its locations and geography cause the topic was too vast to cover in a single video!

    • @Toviyah

      I think maybe the land didn’t recover because like it says in the books that after the Sauron was defeated the world never recovered until it was made again but it also could become like it was before morgoth destroyed because he and Sauron where gone. Due to the volcanic ash of Mount Doom, I think it is very likely at least the eastern and southern areans of Mordor, around Lake Nurn, would become a very beautiful place over time. The soil is likely very rich and the people who were given that land for their own would have no problem growing food with the smokes and darkness and foulness of Sauron and his servants departed from that land. I do not think, however, that the lands surrounding Barad-dur would likely have recovered and would remain a dangerous place of pits, and heat from the earth, and perhaps fumes still from the fire that had fueled Amon Amarth.

    Sauron's greatest attribute was his patience. He knew that if he could not destroy someone by might, he could take his time, corrupt them slowly or watch them ruin themselves over time, because his will was immovable as adamant he could wait, he would be there when they had weakened to try again. That more than anything else made him deadlier than nearly any other enemy.

    Mordor is one of my favorite realms in Middle-Earth and when it comes to playing lotr games, I’ve always wanted to visit it. It’s the reason why I love Shadow Of Mordor and War. Even though we know much of it from the films, the realm itself is still unexplored and it’s full of mystery and untold horrors. I hope that we see more of it in the future with Amazon’s lotr series since we’re probably gonna see Sauron’s rise as the Dark Lord. Also, I hope that we get a brief glimpse of Sauron’s ruined form underneath his helmet.
    Also, good news!! Thanks to New Zealand’s brilliant efforts in containing Covid-19, production on the series has resumed! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

If he had the power to do so would he even do it and succeed power back to his old master? And if he came back would Morgoth be able to defeat Sauron (who has the one ring)?

    • @GeekZoneMT
      @GeekZoneMT  4 года назад +26

      He definitely remained loyal to his master and promoted Morgoth's worship, though I believe his end goal was to control Middle-Earth and shape it according to his desires. I don't think he would have been able to bring Morgoth back out of the void (and if he managed to do so somehow, I don't believe that they would fight one another) :)

    • @egonieser
      @egonieser 4 года назад +16

      Sharon's ring was a part of his essence, he didn't have more power as a being because of it, but because he could use it as a means to imbue other physical things/beings/structures etc with a part of himself. E.g. making foundations of Barad-Dúr indestructible, enslaving the spirits of others via lesser rings tied to him etc.
      And no he could not bring Morgoth back because Morgoth was banished by powers far greater than Sauron's. The Valar are higher beings of power than Sauron and while with enough force and armies he could technically even invade and destroy Amán after he is done with middle earth, he still lacks the, how should I say it... Magical power points to break the spells/banishment of Morgoth, only a being of equal or greater strength to that of the Valar could do it. If Morgoth didn't lose most of his spirit essence and power due to his erroneous ways of wasting it on similar things Sauron did (remember, many of the beings Morgoth made were done by giving them a tiny bit of his own essence and energy e.g. Dragons, Many foul beasts, as he could not create new beings, only Eru can do that, he could only breed them with help of his own spirit essence), he couldn't then be banished as he was still mightier of the Valar and they wouldn't have the power to banish him or he could break free.
      Sauron did even worse by imbuing a large part of his essence in the ring, and while the destruction of the ring certainly didn't kill him, it made him weak enough to never be able to remake a physical form in Arda ever again, and he would have most likely just join his master Morgoth in banishment, and the Nazgùl would be free from the ring's influence and would be set free to go to halls of Mandos where they would be judged for their deeds as they were still spirits of men, same like the oathbreakers but weren't remaining because of a broken oath but by being trapped by the ring.

      @@egonieser While I agree with your statement that Sauron's power was no match for that of the Valar, I disagree with the one that the ring didn't make him more powerful. In fact Sauron had realized Melkor's mistake of having projected his power into his evil creations, and hereby having slowly lost most of it, and he (and the elves) invented the rings exactly to avoid that mistake! In Tolkien's world all the spiritual beings (the Valar, Maiar, and the elves - I'm not sure about men though) were born with a certain amount of creative ('magic') power that they could use to create/preserve things in the world. But this power never regenerated, so the more and greater things they created, the less power they have left, until they finally ran out of it completely. This was why Varda and Yavanna couldn't recreate the two trees, for example, without the Silmarils. This was why Melkor got weaker and weaker after he had to recreate his evil servants again and again as the Valar kept destroying them. And it was one of the major factors of the decline of the elves and their world too in the 2nd and 3rd ages, as by that time they have left very little creative power to preserve what they still had, not to mention to recreate what they had lost.
      Sauron, however, has found a way to overcome this limitation! He developed a 'technology' in the form of the rings of power, that allowed him (and the elves) to regenerate their creative powers! A spiritual being who had a ring of power in his/her possession could spend an infinite amount of creative power without losing any forever, since whatever they created/preserved with the help of their rings didn't lessen their creative power. The rings allowed the power they spent to regenerate! So, while the One Ring didn't make Sauron more powerful on the short term (as it only contained the creative power that he had put into it), it did make him much more powerful on the long term (as it allowed him to use all that power again and again, the power that he could have used only once otherwise). This is why it made sense for Sauron to put most of his creative power into the making of the ring, an act that obviously made him much more vulnerable. And this is why this 'technology' was so alluring for the elves that they cooperated with Sauron in the making of the rings of power despite their doubts regarding his true identity. Because they wanted a regenerating source of creative power above all else in order to stop their own decline and preserve/bring back their former glory! Just what Elrond and Galadriel did in Rivendell and Lothlorien.
      And because of the above, after a while, if he ruled Middle Earth for long enough in possession of the rings of power that provided him with unlimited creative power on the long term, I'm not sure that he wouldn't have a chance even against the Valar, who would had spent most of their creative power by that time. I think that this was indeed his plan. And Galadriel, for example, could have achieved the same, if she accepted the ring! With her own creative power + most of Sauron's creative power that he had put into the ring, she'd have been more powerful than Sauron ever was, and with this power always regenerating thanks to the ring, she also might have surpassed even the Valar in power, although not in wisdom. An interesting idea - the whole world ruled by a currupted dark elf queen. :)

    A great video 👍. I think Morgoths fortresses of Angband and Utumno were more powerful and larger (deeper) than Barad Dur...since EVERYTHING in the 1st age is extremely strong compared to the 2nd and 3rd ages... Even the elves. So if Angband was almost indestructible by them then, then it must've been really powerful.

Given the volcanic runoff, its likely that the farmland there was some of, if not the best place to grow food in middle earth. The idea that the entiwves were found and taken there as agricultural slaves in the 2nd age is also somewhat intriguing. Maybe the new amazon show will feature Nurnen at some point.
