Nevsky is awesome. She's versatile, fairly tough, lots of utility, good AA, and yeah, she is good even at extreme range. And unlike the other Russian T10's, she can't be rushed 'cause she has effective torps.
Subscribed. Also, currently grinding up to the Nevsky, my first Soviet tech tree ship. (Also just got the Moskva as my first coal ship) Moskva is pretty awesome, positioning FTW.
Nevsky is basically the Swiss Army Knife of cruisers. It has everything that cruiser mains would want - reliable guns, torps, radar, decent maneuverability, and radar.
90% of the time in CB, I'm in Petro, Nevsky or Moskva and find them all very powerful, but also different in specialization. They are the best CAs in my opinion.
Keep in mind IFHE on the Nevsky only allows it to pen 37mm plating, which makes it very situational even against BBs. IFHE only allows the Nevsky to pen the deck of British and French BBs.....against British and German battlecruisers it's almost useless (you can already pen their bow armor and IFHE won't allow you to pen their deck), and the GK's icebreaker also makes IFHE almost useless. This means against most other tier 10 BBs IFHE is only useful against the bow and stern (minus ice breakers). And even then, if you aim center mass, any shell that hits the super structure, turrets, or deck won't benefit from the increased pen, while still suffering the reduced fire chance. I personally don't choose to run IFHE simply due to the fact it's a flat nerf against the majority of the ships I will be shooting at, and even against the ships it does provide benefit against, most of the time I will still be mainly hitting center mass where IFHE is of minimal use against most Tier 10 BBs. Unless you're regularly brawling with BBs where it's easier to hit the 32mm bow/stern or British/French BBs become super meta, I don't think IFHE is worth it for simple long range damage farming.
This ship is my guilty pleasure. When I feel tired and just want to farm and not trying to win, I play Nevsky. Yes I use range mode for the same reason.
Don't forget about the AP though. It retains a lot of pen at range, so I spam AP at every broadside up to around 16km. Feels a lot like a Hindenburg in that regard.
yesterday i was in Nevsky, the enemy cv was last ship alive hiding behind an island, our cv comes along and spots, from 21.5k i get 8 ap cits in one shot and kill him, that was nice :P
Isn't the idea with general soviet dispersion that it spreads out wide horizontally, but less so vertically? I could be totally wrong, but it seems good at punishing broadsides, then worse at landing consistently on more angled targets. Is this understanding just straight wrong? Is the dispersion just entirely bad?
5:22 Maybe the sub was trying to home the torp into you so they turn and hit the thunderer by surprise. Torpedo Bending if you will. And it almost worked lmao.
I'm a huge fan of the Nevsky especially for CBs. My only contention with her from randoms is the fact that she has depth charges. She's almost Moskva like in maneuverability. Medium-Heavy Cruisers should not be using depth charges.
The AP is the most underrated aspect of this ship. While it doesn't have improved pen angles, the pen performance at long range does not drop off like most ships. I use AP anytime I see a broadside regardless of range. Most Nevsky players run HE nonstop and miss out on a lot of damage.
on my Nevsky, I dont run IFHE and I do run a Range mod. Most players think that 19KM is the max that Nevsky can engage you. but when they realize that they are still within gun range I get to burn them down to the ground. In slot two, I run improved radar for the extra radar duration and I do run rudder shift. Nevsky is great at open water gun boating and with the rudder shift improvement its able to dodge most rounds. Nowadays, I run range mod on alot of my cruisers over reload. Classic example would be Des moines, 16-17Km range without range mod 18.4 with it. There are other ships with base range longer than DM. Zao is another example of that. With legendary mod its 17.5K . With the Zao I run Eye in the sky and range mod (may swap out EitS). overall great ship
The key to play nevsky and have a huge impact on the game (random battles) is by using range mod and HE spam the battleships trying to push up your flank. Turn yo butt towards them and start setting them on fire as soon as you can. This makes tanky ppl turn around and abandon the flank. Also you should use waaaay more AP than u think. U can citadel DMs at 19km. Besides that u should spec a little into AA, that also really helps to keep the CV away. It cant carry on its own since the damage alpha is too low but its the best support ship imo. I got 60%wr and 2k pr in it at 214 battles
Eventually I completed the grind for myself and really got to enjoy the ship. The radar coupled with short reload and good accuracy made me hate playing against her. But it is a bit OP...... I can say this because as a below average player.... I have above average games in her! lol
I got nevsky not to long ago and it is always a good time playing it the ship is just op imo the ap on it is no joke to you can citidal alot of stuff at max range
Playing Nevsky just like Venezia and Condé. Lighthouse build with reload mod and Rudder mod.3 + propulsion mod. IFHE does not help a lot with 180mm caliber, it just ruins your fire chance
I like calling Nevsky an 'advanced light cruiser' because it has the shell arcs better than most of the heavy cruisers and guns slightly bigger enough than the standard light cruiser caliber. Has good armor, great AA, 8km torps and godly fire chance (I don't run IFHE). Accuracy for me is also super impressive. A solid package overall and farms the crap out of almost everything. I once harassed a Conde so much that he stopped shooting at me LOL. Also, this ship is stupidly fast. Slap the propulsion mod and you'll be juking shells for ages XD
I once engage a sub and successfully killed it. Before he died, he fired torpedoes going away 90° from my ship and double pinged me. I didn't bother clearing it because the torpedoes were going away from me and it would have required a 180 turn to come and hit me. Guess how I died lol
I really liked the concept of the old soviet cruisers. They were fast, with good radar, great range and alot of HP on top of solid guns. But there was this big concealment weakness and the clumsieness which made them balanced. When the split came, WG was like: "Well, lets remove the big balancing weakness but add some more advantages on top." And thats why i hate both Nevsky and Petro.
So im struggling to use Cleveland radar, im trying to get the whole cap using it but it feels like i have to constantly over extend in order to do it, and it feels like the opportunities to use it intelligently is few and far between, any tips or anything would be great appreciated
Dont force yourself to cover the cap with radar, except if your position is safe enough to cover it, im gonna say what everyone always said about american CL "island is your best friend", and since your concealment doesnt come close to radar range, dont play cleve like russian cruiser
Can you put together a video on your off air sacrifices/rituals to the WG rng gods that result in MM like that second game? I haven't seen a game where I"m not bottom tier, have a CV(s), have a sub(s) or all three in so long, you must be doing something right. Thanks for the great content!
Not sure what youre complaining about with the homing torps, it is historical accuracy. Homing torps was a thing during WW2 and it was also a thing that they were really dodgy. I know of atleast one instance where a US submarine sunk itself because a homing torpedo turned around and targeted their own sub. Either way, I think people are playing this game for all the wrong reasons, Im fine with subs and CVs. Its a historical arcade game its not a competitive game.
I was playing my Helena the other day and got a first salvo HE detonation on some random t6? or t5 dd that was in the game, immediately i started to complain about how stupid detonations are and the idea that "realism" is why its still in the game but we have so many arcadey and non realistic things and someone was like "yeah but it DID happen" yeah ok and subs eventually got something akin to homing torps...30+ years after any of these ships last saw service, add ASW to all ships as well as some amount of AA to all ships and remove detonations, its anti fun and anti skill its just dumb.
I hate my Nevsky. I don't have IFHE but i got less fires than PQ. 16% fire chanes and i got 2-3 fires from 100 He hits, what they are instant DCP. The He damage is a joke. 400 in t10. I think a t3-4 CA has the same damage. I try to learn it, but for me is a garbage yet. Maybe because it's a "support ship".
Perhaps an unpopular opinion, I've played since launch, and I hate subs more than eliminating stealth fire, intro of radar, intro of CVs, reworked CVs, power creep in general combined!!!! Sure, better now than when introed, but I find myself gladly throwing away my ship, or even a win, to make them suffer if I have the chance! o7
Seeing 5 ships join up and absolutely plunder a submarine was a real peak moment lol
Truly one of the moments in wows ever
More so the idea the mid-tier managers making decisions on a game they don't play often says it all for me...
Watching subs and CVs die and their sailors drown in the tiers of the devs always warms my heart
Would've been better if ganging up on a CV, but yup
Nevsky is awesome. She's versatile, fairly tough, lots of utility, good AA, and yeah, she is good even at extreme range. And unlike the other Russian T10's, she can't be rushed 'cause she has effective torps.
4:20: Um, what happened is that your rear turrets were knocked out.
Both turrets were red when you thought you locked your guns 😂. Still great video👍
Subscribed. Also, currently grinding up to the Nevsky, my first Soviet tech tree ship. (Also just got the Moskva as my first coal ship) Moskva is pretty awesome, positioning FTW.
I love A. Nevsky. One of my favorite CAs. Great video PQ again! Lets hear more about the new computer build.
Nevsky is basically the Swiss Army Knife of cruisers. It has everything that cruiser mains would want - reliable guns, torps, radar, decent maneuverability, and radar.
Lmao, that submarine encounters was really funny
90% of the time in CB, I'm in Petro, Nevsky or Moskva and find them all very powerful, but also different in specialization. They are the best CAs in my opinion.
Oh snap! A Nevsky One take! How did I miss this?
I'm really curious to see what Unique Upgrade it's going to get.
Keep in mind IFHE on the Nevsky only allows it to pen 37mm plating, which makes it very situational even against BBs. Love this ship. Bit of a glass cannon but insanely fast reload and about 1km/s velocity on those shells.
Toughened-Stalinium glass, mind.
This ship is my guilty pleasure. When I feel tired and just want to farm and not trying to win, I play Nevsky. Yes I use range mode for the same reason.

Wohoo he did it after reminding him that this beauty of a ship has been forgotten :P
Nevsky is my goto Clan battles cruiser lately. Really strong.
Nevsky is my favorite in game. I had to move to Nevsky since the IJN line kept getting the shaft :P
Finaly my favorite T10 cruiser. Nevsky is an awesome ship.(edit: Try using the AP, its very good too)
Great Vid! Thank you Sir!
yesterday i was in Nevsky, the enemy cv was last ship alive hiding behind an island, our cv comes along and spots, from 21.5k i get 8 ap cits in one shot and kill him, that was nice :P
For the first time about 2 weeks ago I did the same in my Baltimore. 7 crits in one salvo against a cv at almost my max range. Boy did it feel good.
Isn't the idea with general soviet dispersion that it spreads out wide horizontally, but less so vertically? I could be totally wrong, but it seems good at punishing broadsides, then worse at landing consistently on more angled targets.

Damn that homing torp!
Nevsky is among my favorite cruisers alongside Zao
Yoshino with range module, call it 25km (but spotting is obviously an major headache)
Hey Potato - Think you can do a one take of the Constellation? Seems like a interesting ship.
I've citadeled zao from about 15km as well. The AP can be devastating.
best video ever
whats that angle thingie in the left bottom corner. is that a mod? or a setting in the game?
It's always made -12% sense that the long range cruisers have direct depth charges. . . It's just so absurd.
on my Nevsky, I dont run IFHE and I do run a Range mod. Well I run range on Moskva too..and also kite like nevsky (for sure in the start of the match) not bowtank mostly. So i dont get burned down :D

I just got it and it really fun to play 🤤

How else could you ever learn Buerre D'Arachides then?
Russian fire chance, comrade. Lower number = better
you didnt lock the turrets they got knocked out by the moskova xd
Isn't everywhere in Saskatchewan the middle of nowhere? :) j/k from an Albertan
I run lighthouse Nevsky and it's 🤌
i play with range mode and wichout IFHE, becuse i like when world burn, 10+ fires per mach thats nevsky

ifhe is really troll
This is unquestionably a top tier ship - Zao can only wish it had these firing angles, range, guns velocity and armour.
You are not lying
Zao has its uses, like the torps, concealment and fire chance.
You must be thinking on the Yodo, now that ship really needs help
You keep complaining about the dispersion but it's honestly quite good...
Well he doesn't like russian ships. He thinks that Wooster is S tier ship...so what do you expect?
2 broken turrets, blame updates XD, Although playing so many games I did not know that you can "repair" sonar pings...
By taking the range mod, the dispersion would tighten up at mid-ranges. To each their own I guess.
This is ship is very meh. Unless they give you broadsides and they you just chunk them 3k/per at 19km
I hate my Nevsky. I don't have IFHE but i got less fires than PQ. 16% fire chanes and i got 2-3 fires from 100 He hits, what they are instant DCP. The He damage is a joke. 400 in t10. You dont have luck. You heave CC RNG.
Alexander junk 30mm pen
Rename to Camping Quality pls
I find nevsky simply so boring to play and the fact i'm put to play it in clan battles makes me just go "uuuurgh"
This guy and his fake laughs is cringe
You keep complaining about the dispersion but it’s a fast firing ship so who cares really.
