Dear Malin, I want to thank you for your channel. I'm re-watching your videos over and over again to distance myself from tragic news from my neighbour country - Ukraine. My heart is broken but each time I feel overwhelmed, you give me peace and joy with your content. Lots of love ❤
Thank you for the feedback 😊 I'll stay working on it! I think my way of eating and cooking has changed a lot over the years. In general I think I've just become a better cook and maybe that's why my recipes are a bit more complicated, I'm not sure 😊
Budget meal plans or any meals plans would be wonderful. I tend to buy the same things over and over again and make the same dishes. I would like to know an easy way to plan my meals and then shop for the items and not waste anything - on a budget would be a bonus!! Thank you - love your channel!
thanks for the helpful and detailed feedback, I'll definitely keep all this in mind as I plan for future videos! we also used to buy the same things over and over but now with planning we try new dishes prompting us to buy different ingredients. I look forward to sharing a video soon and hopefully it will give you some good tips! :) x
Thank you Malin, excellent advice. In addition, depending on where one lives, foraging may be an option for some. In my area, this summer so far I have foraged plums, cherries, mulberries, raspberries and blackberries (8 cups worth just yesterday!). As with your suggestions of bulk purchases, wash & freeze or even dehydrate.
Thank you for the great tip! We love to forage too and have picked plenty of blueberries this year as well as porcini 😊✨ Hoping it will rain after this heat wave we're having subsides and that we can head back to the forest to search for more mushrooms, would love to pick some chanterelles!
Hey there! Loved your video on "Vegan on a Budget: Top 10 Tips"! As a fellow budget-conscious vegan, I'm always on the lookout for clever ways to save some green while enjoying delicious plant-based meals. Your tips were so helpful and I can't wait to try them out. Keep up the fantastic work
I really enjoy this video, Malin. Thank you so much for your hard work, I hope you know it is appreciated. 💛 This was a very informative and engaging video that taught me quite a bit for when I go to the grocery store with my family. A budget series would be interesting as well. Thanks again, Sophie.
hi sophie :) I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful! will definitely be planning some budget meal and meal planning videos for the future to share with you all.wishing you all the best and lots of fun with your food shop and cooking! :) x
I think what happens to me sometimes with low cost meals is that I don’t add a lot of variety of produce so then I feel like I’m not getting enough vitamins or minerals.
That's a good point! In this case I'd suggest to make sure you're eating some greens every day and something red/orange - I've heard this covers a lot of our vitamin and mineral needs. Greens are fantastic for vegans with so many good nutrients, especially dark ones. Maybe you know this already 😊 When I try to cut costs I usually go for the cheaper veg like carrot, beetroot and other root vegetables so that I can buy more but for less money. Of course what's cheaper depends on where we live though. Also it could be an idea to switch it up from week to week so that even if you don't have a great variety every week you have different things over the course of time. Just some ideas 😊 Wishing you a lovely Sunday!
In Europe, heatwaves are getting more and more common. We are going through a big one now, here in Belgium. I would love to see a video on plant based food and drinks that are perfect for this type of weather. Love your videos! Hope you and your family are staying safe.
thank you for your suggestion! :) this sunday I'll be doing a live cook along where I'll be making summer rolls with peanut sauce. these are great for hot weather so if you're around join in! the week after I'm planning to post a what I eat in a day and since we are also right in the middle of a heatwave it will be centered around food for hot weather as well :) hope you tune in and many thnks for your suggestion! x
I get too excited at farmers markets. All the fresh food and colours, I always buy too much. Luckily our local market delivers, so it is easier to not overbuy. However, I tend to then buy the same things and make the same meals. New meal ideas are always awesome, especially coming from a different culture (I am Australian) x
yes I'm definitely the same! luckily we can freeze when the eyes were hungrier than the stomach. not so good for the wallet though, haha. glad you've found an effective solution to this problem! :) I'll keep your note in mind and look forward to sharing more recipes with you all soon :) x
Great video and vegan tips. I would also encourage that if you have the space to grow some of your own plant foods in containers salad crops, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, radishes, onions, shallots, garlic and herbs are all suitable for containers.
Thank you for mentioning the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen. I haven’t seen many vegan RUclipsrs showcase it. I think the using the 2 lists is a great method for prioritizing which organics to buy. Budget meal plans and a series on low cost vegan meals both sound great!
Glad it resonated with you! I think it's a very clever list but just realised that maybe it's specific to the US? I'll have to look up whether we have a Europe specific one!
I love your videos! They are so calming! At least as there is no advertising through out it. Love to see your budget friendly meal ideas ❤️ love from germany
glad you like the videos :) will definitely make some budget friendly meals to share with you all soon! unfortunately ads are one of the ways we can keep going with the channel as it makes us some revenue. much love x
Hello Malin! Great tips 😄 I made your lemon risotto the other day, and added somme fresh peas. This was juste delicious 😋 Love your recipes, they are so inspiring !
hi camille :) glad you liked my tips! and what lovely news that you made my lemon risotto and enjoyed it :D that makes me so happy! peas sound like a perfect addition! x
I really enjoy your videos - progress is so obvious 💪👏. And I love these tips!!! To save money you can combine 1 & 2 = buy in season and freeze yourself 😋 (it’s less plastic too 👍) and eat edible plants around your home, like young stinging nettle or bishop’s weed, forest berries and mushrooms 🤤💚 🌍
so glad you like the videos and see us making progress zofia, thank you! great tips that you're sharing there, we love to forage but living in the city it's not always the easiest. this year we've picked blueberries and porcini so far but missed out on the nettles. next year! :) wishing you all the best! x
Great video, thank you, Malin! I love the idea of cheap vegan meals but I also would like a video about quick meals and snacks for those times when we do not plan ahead and start thinking about food when we are already so hungry!
Beautiful, helpful content! As per usual! Please do a sprouting video, a video on produce that is ripe in each season, and one on wheatgrass. Thanks! Oh and those were great ideas. I would love a meal planner and a low cost vegan meals video.
glad you liked the video nancy :) and many thanks for your suggestions, I'll definitely keep them in ind going forward! however I'm no expert at wheatgrass so probably won't be doing that one but I know @shisodelicious on instagram was sharing how she grows it at home, so go check her out :) x
Good Eatings You are sweet to remember my name. I predict your channel will grow so much this next year you will have no hope of knowing names! Thanks for the suggestion too! I am so rarely on Instagram these days, I did it so faithfully when I was producing and directing (& choreographing) shows in order to promote them. Just a working girl in the time of COVID. I will get back there one day.
Hi! I do shop at a local "Asian" market, but they also stock foods from a lot of countries. So that's great. However, I do check ingredients VERY closely as they often are not nearly as clean as I like to eat. They often contain msg, artificial flavorings and preservatives, etc. Some do not, but I recommend checking for yourself.
Great tips, I also like using frozen veggies and berries. Would love to see some low cost meals! I’ve found that the food prices here in Sweden are so different compared to the US and UK.
Yes frozen is so good to keep on hand, especially in the winter time! I'm going to get working on some more cost meals for sure, seems many want to see it. And yes unfortunately I think food is more expensive here, would you agree? I don't have experience of the US but I find it more expensive than the UK for sure. At the same time it leads me to water less as it costs me more 😊
I live outside Chicago in the US and grocery prices here vary greatly depending on the store. Unfortunately farmer's markets are very expensive (in my experience, at least) so I typically skip them. When I need to be budget minded, I can buy enough groceries for my husband and me for about $60/week by going to the cheaper store (a produce market/"European" grocer) I buy mostly produce and other whole foods. But we can also easily spend $150/week by going to typical supermarket/American style grocery store and using more convenience foods
Good Eatings Yeah I think especially things like fresh fruit and vegetables are more expensive here in Sweden compared to other European countries (but we also import many products so that could be why). I’ve watched videos from the US where they meal prep for a week for a very low cost and I don’t think I can do that here, but I’m trying!
Megan Anderson I’m a student and I meal prep for the whole week every Sunday. Usually it costs me about 50 to 75 dollars a week but that’s quite a lot when you get about 300 dollars every month for studying. I’m trying to find more budget friendly options, for example chickpeas are so cheap and have a lot of nutrition in them. I haven’t checked out the farmer’s markets here but I would like to. Here we have some more budget friendly stores like Lidl, I try to shop each product where it’s the cheapest price so I go around to different stores.
that's a pleasure, glad you liked it zilia! I forgot to attach it, sorry! here it is: www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php depending on where you are in the world you might want to search for an area specific guide as well :) x
