- In this tutorial, I will take you through the settings of the iPhone XR to show you how to get the best results when shooting still photos and videos!
Once we do that I'll also walk through each of the features on the iOS camera App step by step which will be ideal for newcomers to the Apple Phone or those who have updated from an older model.

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, I don´t know why the pictures taken have a resolution of less than one megapixel and sometimes they have more than two. Is ther a manner to select the resolution in megapixels for your photos??. Kind regards.
Something a lot of tutorials leave out is that you can do vertical pano shots (trees, buildings, etc.) if you turn your phone sideways first and then do the vertical pano swipe.

Snapchat doesn't actually take a photo with the camera, it's more like a screenshot of what the app sees from the camera. It's weird

@@LorriKlassen LOL, that's funny I have always been on iPhone since day one, but lately have been tempted by all those Android options from Huawei, Samsung etc. Haven't caved yet, there is something about the way everything works so well within the Apple EcoSystem that keeps me in. Sure they aren't showing as much innovation as some of the Android alternatives, but the experience on the iPhone is near flawless👍I think you'll be very pleased with the acquisition, especially if you have other Mac gear, everything works so well together.😀

Excellent, thx! I want to take an inside to outside view shot but with the both in focus. My usual shots are either one or the other. What settings are best for this, if any?
If you use the portrait photo mode where there is a person in the scene you can use the aperture setting on the top right. If there are no people in the scene the iPhone XR portrait mode doesn’t work so you have to use another app for that. I have used one called Focos which does the job.....

Thank you for your advices! Is there a way to quick access the camera settings directly from tbe camera app instead of going back to the settings app and search for camera settings over there?
In the latest version of IOS 14 which came out about a month ago they did put the video resolutions in the camera up in the top right hand corner so you can tap to toggle between 1080, 4k etc.
My iPhone XR front camera video resolution is at 720p how to change it to 1080 P

Quick unsolicited advice: (super tiny yet important point)
Remember that YOU know this stuff, but we don't (I mean, that's should be the assumption of any good teacher).
So for example at 2:48 you start to explain "Record Video", but you are blocking it with your fingers as you click it.
Maybe leave it blank just for like a full second so that if nothing else we can pause more easily.
That's all, tiny detail. You're doing great work and it is highly appreciated by many many many people !!!!!!!!

How about recording videos during concerts? I would want a HD quality what setting do you recommend? 4k on what fps? I. hope you answer me
You can shoot that at either 4k60 or 4k30. The resolution is equally high on both settings. The only benefit of going with 4k60 is that it can be smoother for fast moving objects and panning shots. Also it can be slowed down in editing for more natural looking slow motion, which you probably wouldn’t need to do with concert footage.
Whenever I switch to video front camera zooms in a lot, how can I change that?
Unfortunately you can’t change this. The video function crops into the sensor and that is why it zooms in about 10%. So you don’t get as wide a shot when you shout in video mode compared to still photos.
A little known trick when taking pano shots is that you can also do vertical panos by holding the phone sideways, then moving the phone up (or down).
That's a great tip. I never thought of doing that. I can see it would come in handy if you wanted to capture a tall building in one shot and you were too close to get it all in the frame. 👍

I'm still trying to figure this out and thanks for the video! It's a great start. I'm looking to take close ups or long distance photos. Does this camera even do that? What phone has a camera that does?
Well not really, the iPhone XR has only the one lens. You can zoom in by pinching on the screen but this is a digital zoom effect so not as good in terms of quality compared to the new iPhone 11 and 12 which have 2-3 lenses at different lengths for wide angle and close up zoom shots.

Do u know how to flip front cam while taking video in xr
The iPhone Camera App will flip automatically. Its showing you your image in preview mode as you would see yourself in a mirror then flips the final image to show you form the perspective of a camera pointing at you. However if you want to flip it, tap on edit and then the crop tool and use the top icon to flip. There is an app called Mirror that does the flip for you while taking the photo, so you can download that to have it done automatically.
Would be nice to have info on taking night photos, but I haven't seen anything on this issue using the XR
Yeah, unfortunately there is no night photo mode on the XR.

The 60 FPS option when I’m shooting 4K generates when inspected in Windows 10 a file where the FPS count is 60.02, any idea why?
Windows might have its own way of calculating the frame rate that varies to iOS file. It is essentially 60FPS. If you open it up in a video editor such as Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve, it will probably say 60FPS exacly.
is there anyway to make the front camera wider? the ipXr front camera is too zoomed in for my liking
unfortunately not, its got a focal length that is much like a 35mm lens so its kind of mid/wide. Ultra wide has just become available on the new iPhone 11. So if you have an XR you can't shoot really wide. The only thing you can do is use the panorama mode to get wide shots, takes a bit more effort but does the job if you need to get more in the scene.

You're very welcome. Alas, the IPhone XR doesn't have a night mode, this was introduced in the iPhone 11 and 12.

On the AT&T iPhone XR, is there a night or low light setting? Just took indoor photos with medium light (and a lit up Christmas tree!) and it all turned out grainy ... will this camera take better shots, if so how . . .
Unfortunately there is no low light settings on the XR. The iphone 11,12 and 13 have low light.

Do you recommend recording in 4K with 128gb storage on the XR. I am worried it could fail it up to fast.
With 128GB you can record in 4k and get quite a bit of video. 1 hour of video shot in 4k might take up 12GB. So if you end up shooting more than 8 or so hours you will need to offload it at some point either to iCloud or using the photos app to get it across to a computer for back up.
Can you please let me know how to beautify watsapp front camera during video calling on iphoneXR.. its really of poor and dull mode
To be honest the front facing camera is not the best on the XR, they made improvements on the iPhone 11 and 12. I am not aware of any real time filters you can apply on what's app so the only thing to do is consider getting a good light. Either a small Softbox or Ring light could work well.

If you download the updated version of iOS 13 which came out last week you get access to extra video editing tools right within iOS. So once you download it and update, tap on the video, select edit and go to the adjustments menu. Good information. However, I'm trying to find out why my iPhone 6 stopped taking hd photos. The wide lens. It has gone to square and leaves a huge black space on both sides. Like I took a pic vertically. Which no one uses. Hope you can help.
That is strange, so when you go into the camera app, can you still select between photo and square modes in the slide menu just above the shutter. If you can and it shot the square image in Photo mode then it sounds like a bug of some kind, in which case i would say you may need to update the OS?
@@Touchtechnologyreview Thank you. It wasn't the camera app at all. You know what it was I was seeing a portrait, but taking a landscape or wide shot. So the fix is in the menu where the short cuts are like a flashlight. It is the portrait orientation lock: On. I guess I hit it when using the flashlight yesterday. So I was taking a picture today in horizontal and when I looked at the picture it was verticle. huh!

When using the camera app to record video the only option is to stop the recording. The you would have to put the edit together in a video editor such as iMovie which is a free app that apple provide.

High Efficiency offer better file size and improved image quality using the latest codec. However they both look pretty good and some people would say it's hard to see the difference. I've seen both side by side and can agree that High Efficiency is superior.

Yes they should rotate automatically. If not you can swipe down on the top right of the home screen to reveal your control centre. Check that the Padlock icon for auto rotate is not highlighted to red, which locks orientation to portrait.

The front facing selfie cam doesn't support 4k. So when you want to shoot in 4k you have to make sure you are using the main camera on the back of the phone......
Is there black background Studio Lighting available for the XR Front Camera?
You get natural, studio and contour. Looks like the same options you get on the XS

No you can't but you can export them out as lower res images. For example if you email them you get the option to export out as full res or lower res images.

TikTok are 9x16 format and no higher res than SD. So you can shoot it the 720p mode. If you are editing in iMovie export out as mp4 and should be fine to upload.
