What an awesome piece of machinery that is. When manufacturers took pride in their work and things lasted forever. I love going to our local steam show and seeing old running machinery thats been around for 100 plus years. Thanks for walking us through this.
Your welcome 🙏
Brings tears to your eyes!
Good looking and sounding G, farmed with Green long time ago!!
Thank you so much.
Beautiful, my grandpa had one, man times have changed,
Nice. Love straight piped 2 cylinder JD's. The sound is intoxicating.
Thanks yeah I agree nothing sounds like a Deere! I like to start them up just to hear them run.
One of my favorite sounds, an old John Deere two cylinder tractor. Reminds me of my childhood.
Back in the day this was high tech. Now it's artwork and classical music! Somehow I really doubt 80 years from now, people will be ranting and raving over something made today. Beautiful!
Thank you so much glad you enjoyed the video. I agree 💯!!
"She's a beaut, Clark!" - Cousin Eddie
Thanks that’s a funny and a good one thanks for watching!
Good Sounding G
Thank you so much for watching!
I love it.
Thank you so much
Loved the pt pt sound from these tractors.
Had a 1948 styled with big fenders. Had to hand start a few times. Took the steering wheel off and put a lug in that matched the flywheel center to crank counter clockwise. Takes some mussel but got the job done. Great old tractors. H.
That’s very cool 😎
That was for electric start models only, hand start doesn't have spot for the steering wheel
Right 1948 Model H.
What a Beautiful machine. Thanks and love the sound of that unmuffled two banger.
Thanks for the kind comment
Beautiful!
Thank you
Those Gs had some power!!!
Yes they sure did Thanks for watching!
How many 16inch plow bottoms in medium soil 10 inches deep will the G do? My 37 A will 2 16's in first low range. So fun!
@@Oldways52 The G was rated as a 3 bottom tractor. All depends on soil and if the operator sets the plow up properly.
Nice !
Thanks 🙏
My neighbor had one of those he just kept in the pasture and fired it up about once or twice a year to knock the weeds down it was funny to listen to that thing put put around .
Love them ol’ pop and johns.
Started one of these by hand many times when I was very young.
That is awesome 👏
I remember being at my grandfather's farm as a kid in the '60s watching him hand start his John Deere G's. I was always impressed that he could hand start these tractors. Don't think I ever started one myself, but I remember pulling the flywheel over slowly wondering how he did it. Good memories.....
@@rogermason5833 that’s is so cool thanks for sharing your story.
Please be careful having loose clothing around any equipment!
For sure!!
Awesome tractor... I have one but it has been stuck for the past 40 yrs...
Cool 😎 would be fun to get running.
@lanelukefahr1184 yes. But it is pretty bad shape. Sitting outside for many years has taken its toll.
Anywhere near Wisconsin? I need an unstyled G for my collection...
Nice old tractor ❤
Thanks 🙏
My daddy had one of these old John Deer tractors. It’s the first tractor that I learned to start and drive on our farm. I just didn’t know what year the old tractor was. Your tractor is a perfectly identical to the one that I had to crank up I haven’t forgotten about those pet cocks to open up on both sides of the tracker to help relieve the compression so that it wouldn’t be so hard to crank it flywheel up by hand. 😎
May the lord bless you and your family too!
Also remember that you should never wear long lose clothes when you are cranking the flywheel on your tractor 🚜 always try to be safe.
Thanks for watching and sharing your good memories!
Makes me think of AvE's warning label "Take Heed: Apparatus Predates Safety"
we had one like that, newer model, used the flywheel to run machinery(belt driven)
Sounds like a "Poppin Johnny "!¡!!+ HA HA HA.❤
Gotta love those twin cylinder deers
Nice Mark V Lincoln hiding in the back
Yes that is my Mark V Diamond Jubilee I have videos on here of it also!
@@lanelukefahr1184 I just saw thanks, good stuff!
Very surprised any new tractors made in the war. Maybe very early '42? Our economy was in _total_ war mode with every factory producing war material.
But great looking tractor. I'm sure you are proud.
Yes you are correct about the war time production the only made 600 of these in 42 then shortly thereafter they did a complete redesign
You should not have that loose shirt if it was to snag that fly Wheel. You would be seriously INJURED
Yes you are correct 👍
I threw my back out watching him start it..
Yeah I’m sore as can be.
Now I know why there is daylight savings time 😅
We just keep them parked on a hill... Easier to start... Haha!
Good thinking lol 😂
Good exorsize
Yes
My dad had 2 Model Ds used them to run a sawmill, don't have any idea where they went to, probably scrap yard.
Cool! I have many model D tractors. They are awesome machines.
Standing next to the spinning flywheel in a loose shirt, isnt your brightest idea there.
The JD is very nice and sounds great, but why did you record this in portrait mode? 2/3's of my computer screen is black. Do you view a football game or a basketball game in portrait mode?
I used a iPhone to record this video I don’t have high speed internet and can only upload videos through a cell phone here. If you had a digital camera you could make videos wide angle but I wouldn’t be able to post them on RUclips so I did the best I could.
why did they stop making the spoke wheels? Really cool.
The where too expensive to manufacture!!
@@lanelukefahr1184 They are very strong and would last for decades.
Cool tractor hows steering linkage work ?
Works really good for the most part but they are tricky to adjust.
First thing I thought was tuck in your shirt. Old farm machines didn't have many safety guards. Exposed chains, belts, flywheels and PTO shafts can mame or kill.
Hello, what is the minimum tread width on your G ? Thanks
I’m not sure.
Have you ever ran it on kerosene or distillate, like it was designed to do ???
I have ran my 1938 A that is rusty on number 2 diesel!
Switched over from gas to diesel when engine warmed up on my 37 A and it flat belt ran a 36 inch stationary thresher fine. Kept the threshing bee crew busy keeping the treasher full. We all had a good cheers together after the 3 acres were done
@@Oldways52 that is awesome way to go!
i can see why you want to make sure it's in neutral !
lol !
4:00 why is there an international tractor door?
It belongs to my ih 1486 tractor I have red and green paint. Lol
No electric start?
Haha no not on the old ones
Yes nice but maybe tuck your shirt in 😮
Sorry but that's not a 42 unstyled tractors stopped in 1937 or 38
No sir you are not correct the unstyled A ended in 38 but they continued to produce the G unstyled until 1942 they only made 600 serial numbers roughly that year due to the start of WWII they then changed to the GM and started the styled version after that. This tractor is in the last 600 produced before the switch.
Sorry but Unstyled ended in 1939.
No they continued to make the unstyled G until 1942 they only made around 600 in 1942 until the started in with the GM. The last year for the unstyled A was 1939. I have a book that has all the serial numbers and the years of manufacture and this one was in the last 600 built.
@@lanelukefahr1184 Thanks for the clarification. I see it now on the tractor data posting.
@@lanelukefahr1184Oliver Douglas would like your tractors!
@@brendabaxter4045 yeah he probably would have.
That’s a beautiful tractor, but I would never waste my time to do that
That was all they had to farm with back in the day and it was better than horses. Lol 😂
Nice!
