    1-Buy your tomato paste in a tube. It stays unrefrigerated in cabinet and most are better brands, Italian, of tomatoes.
    2-Invest in an Aerogarden for growing herbs indoors. Smaller, less expensive, no work.

    • @arbonneladyTN
      @arbonneladyTN 5 месяцев назад +2

      I teach personal security, shredding receipts used to be needed. A receipt would show the whole card number you used, most do not now. So always check your receipts for your credit/debit card number.
      I would never upload a receipt to any app. They track more than your buying habits.

    I cant remember if I already said this on your last saving video so sorry if I did. But I will buy beef bones and instant pot them (used to just boil them) and when done I strain the broth into a large casserole to cool. The broth becomes a jelly i transfer to a muffin tin to freeze and theres a layer of fat on top that I skim and baggie up called tallow. It has a super high smoking point so terrific for frying! The jellied broth is terrific for all cooking and really good for sipping when its cold. But i baggie them up to use later!

    Why would that app give you points for uploading receipts? Because you are now the product for other advertisers. Just like stores use the product SKU to know what's selling and popular, uploading receipts to that app tells marketers what you're buying and what's popular. My guess is that folks will start seeing ads for competitors' products. But whatever points you're getting is nothing compared to what the app's owners are getting when they sell your data.

    Eggs have their own much more reliable use-by date than that printed on the carton. Simply TEST each egg just before using them by submerging them in water (at least twice the depth of an egg). If they sink and stay sunk, they are good. If they drift up even a little, they are "turning" but still use-able, and if they float directly to the top - don't even crack them, just throw out or feed to pigs, wildlife, etc. I've come across one or two eggs in a freshly bought carton that were already at chuck-out stage when the carton stated they had weeks left to go, so I always test first. You have to be careful with eggs because as they age, the air bubble in them becomes larger (the shell is porous) which then oxidises the egg turning it rancid (?). So you can tell how fresh an egg is by how well it sinks as opposed to how old it is by how well it floats: due to its enlarging air bubble. I don't know if there's a difference between fertile and unfertilised eggs (in Australia, they're generally not fertile), or room temp or refrigerated eggs (I generally put them in the fridge when unpacking the shopping), but I believe this testing method is the best for eggs.

    • @arbonneladyTN
      @arbonneladyTN 5 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly! Before we got our chickens I knew about the ‘float trick’.
      I also learned that stores will take cartons that have 1 or 2 cracked eggs to the back room and repackage the eggs to make full dozens, thus messing with the sell by/ use by dates!

    Good video. I know my grandmother and mom would can various items and we never threw it out, even if it was over two years old. Always checked to make sure it was still sealed and the lid was still dented in, in the middle. They both would can meat, like beef, and chicken. The only exception they had was for canned pork, nothing over a year old. I’m still alive. Why on the receipts, they can track your purchase items and history which they share with their partners. You might see an uptick in emails and ads you will get. Have a great rest of your week.

I am particular about what I use rebates on vs just buying whatever but I save a lot throughout the years especially when combined with store sales. My best deal ever I think was on bacon! It was on sale at Walgreens, yes, Walgreens. There was $2 per package rebate and after the sale and rebates, it was $1/lb. The rebate “reset” and I ended up with 10 pounds of bacon for $10!

    The best way to decide whether or not eggs are fresh enough to eat is to do the float test. Place the eggs in a deep container of water; if they lie on their sides on the bottom they are very fresh, if they stand up on the bottom they are still fresh enough to eat, and if they float to the surface you need to toss them. The expiration date on the carton is useless.

    I always get so excited when I see you guys have a new video out. 😅. I got from amazon these trays that hold one cup worth of food for the freezer. The have bigger ones also that are 2 cups. I use it all the time. I don't use a whole jar of Pasta sauce or something like that and I put it in there and freeze trys. Then monster frozen I just popped them into freezer safe zip luck bags.

    Great video. You can also take cilantro or parsley and tightly wrap it in a paper towel and put in a zip lock bag in the fridge. It lasts a lot longer. I’ve never tried your method but that’s good to know as well.

    I needed shade on my back porch I put up a trellis on the side I wanted to block afternoon sun and planted pole green beans. They grew beautiful and bloomed and I had fresh green beans and home canned 20 pints. Instead of planting flowers arround my deck I planted zucchini, which I also harvested-it also bloomed and was beautiful. Last I planted miniature sweet pepper plants in planter on the deck with some flowers and harvested and froze peppers

    The receipt apps give you points because companies want to get an idea of what is being bought in your region. Some of them are pretty good. My mom gets restaurant gift cards with hers.

    I think concerning the app with the ticket scan, that it works in the way that they collect information about what you buy. Then they sell the info to others so they can send the right comercials and stuff.

    We grow our own herbs and tomatoes over the summer. I cut and freeze them on trays (tomatoes too) and use them all winter. You can do that with peppers and onions as well. I do keep green onions in the fridge in water.
