    One of my favourite money saving tips is collecting all the veggie scraps as you are preparing vegetables, throwing them in a bag in the freezer. When the bag is full, I make a veggie broth to use in other soups and stews. I even refreeze the broth afterwards in smaller portions when needed in recipes. I do the same with bones after I roasted a chicken. (Apologies if it’s already been said in previous comments)

    Dried beans can also be pressure cooked to cut down cooking time. 20-30 mins on pressure cook. Saves money in energy too.

      and less waste. Though it's nothing to just toss a can of beans into the pot after rinsing and do some cooking (and I have several in the cabinet for "just in case" additions to a recipe that needs more fiber/ bulking up), I cringe at the idea of all those tin cans going to the dump. Sadly, no real recycling programs around here, but after this fall cleaning, I'm going to find a good spot to set out my recycling bin so when "the junk guy" comes around, I can have bags of it ready to go again.

    Great list!
    My extra tip no. 1 would be to learn in what way you can use the parts of your food that you would normally put into compost or the trash. E.g. cauliflower leaves and stems can be used in the same way as the florets, they just may have to be cooked a minute longer. Same goes for broccoli, fennel etc. The stems of more soft/delicate herbs, think parsley, basil, coriander, can be used as well - just make sure you chop them up really well.
    Extra tip no. 2: regrow lettuce and spring onions. Just save the last two to three inches, put the freshly cut bottom into water until roots start to form and then put it into some soil. I usually get three more rounds out of every head of salad and bunch of spring onions that I buy.

      Amazing tips! I'm just gonna add - save the skins and cut out's of onions, garlic, carrots etc. - freeze it until you have a lot of them and then make an amazing veggie broth out of them!

    It’s amazing how many people don’t know how to shop and buy purely out of convenience. These are all wonderful tips that the average young person today likely doesn’t know. I’ve received comments in the grocery store line from people surprised at how much I was able to buy for the total cost and how healthy I eat. Something that stuck with me when an older couple was teaching me how to shop for groceries after my mom died was “shop the perimeter”. Basically, I start at the perimeter of the store and shop produce, meat, dairy, some deli, some bakery, and just a few of the center aisles after I shopped the perimeter. This pattern alone has changed the way I eat and how much I spend. Price comparisons from store to store is another one. Back when I could get a week worth of groceries for $125 for a family of four, I took that amount on three separate weeks and shopped three different stores in my area. It was amazing to see the difference of how much I was able to buy or how little. We only buy seasonal fruits and veggies fresh and everything else is frozen. I do look at and shop the prepackaged stuff in the frozen aisle and the convenience Whole Foods to get meal ideas! I use the other side of my list to write them down. We also opt for less coveted cuts of meat and have always bought whole chickens because… Hello! You can make bone broth after you eat the meat!       Most young people don't have time to put this much thought into shopping. I have the time but already knew all these ideas cause I have more time to sit there and think at the grocery store.

    My suggestion is purchasing your protein & planning to use the leftovers in another meal. For example when we have a pot roast, we always get a roast that will yield enough leftovers to make roast beef hash. Another leftover is homemade spaghetti sauce & I make lasagna with the leftovers . You can do the same with chicken, bake extra to turn into a casserole or use in a salad or soup. Also you can easily freeze these to have another day. There are a lot of meals you can make with spaghetti sauce. One other thing is double your recipes, like chili, soups etc & freeze the extra to have for another day. Then all you need to do is thaw it & heat it up. So after almost 50 years of cooking for my family, these are ways that I have learned that will save a few dollars & make my time in the kitchen more efficient.

    You alluded to this, but you could make a simple price chart for your most-purchased fruits and vegetables, and even other items. Write them on an index card or your phone alphabetically and create a little chart of their prices at the stores you visit. That will help you to spot a great price quickly and stock up. You can alter your little chart as needed. I find it useful.

    The only other tip I would say is ship Monday and Wednesdays for best sale days. Get to know your produce person at the store. And be very mindful of which grocery stores you shop in. I have one shop for produce, once for house hold goods, one for nuts in bulk. They are all just within a mile or so of one another but prices are very different at each one

    I watch a TON of you tube videos. This by far was the most practical and really helpful. I do all do these tips but to hear them again in one video is nice. And I think so many people need help with their budgets and food shopping. Thank you for getting out the message we can eat good healthy food on a budget ❤️

    All great advice!! My tip would also be to give yourself time to learn how to implement these changes! It may seem overwhelming at the beginning, but at some point you get into a good routine that suits your life and diet, and start to know what good prices are for different types of food and you can be confident in your choices. The inflation has kind of forced me to learn how to save money on food while still managing to take into account the other things I care about when it comes to food: quality, health, and ethics. Besides saving money I am more creative in my cooking, trying new things, and eating more seasonal too! It is awesome. I feel like I have learned skills for life!

It’s important that you seek the righteous and Holy path of the Most high God so that you may inherit eternal life and be spared of Hell fire. You can begin a new life in Christ and have a genuine relationship with him, please repent. Jesus changed my life and he will change yours too🥰, He is coming NOW! not SOON- when you least expect it!, therefore repent and make sure you are prepared. May the Lord be with you eternally💕🙏🏾

    I would add : use ALL your ingredients !
    - You talked about chicken and bones: use the bones to make a broth.
    - Use the scraps of the vegetables to make broth too.
    - Cook the stems of brocolis and cauliflower.
    ...
    We waste a lot of food without noticing it 😉

Downsize as needed. 3 bunches fresh broccoli chopped small (stems are my favorite), cover with marinade: 237 mL cider vinegar, 14.8 mL sugar, 14.8 mL dill weed, 14.8 mL Accent savory spice mix, 5 mL salt and pepper, 5 mL garlic salt, 355 mL vegetable oil. Cover in bowl and shake. Baste from time to time. Refrigerate 24 hours and serve. Bon appetit!

    I can my own foods. It's very cost effective & you know what is in your foods. I also make my own broths & stocks & grow my own herbs. Oats make a great filler for meatloaf, meat balls, Salisbury steak/gravy. You can do a lot with potatoes, brown beans, and cornmeal. Chicken & dumplings are cheap.

I have been implementing a lot of them for some time now and i am encouraged to apply some others mentioned. I am very frugal and my fave tips were eat in season and buy cheaper foods. This is one of the things that drew me to your channel. Your love and passion for nutrition meal planning, lifestyle and certainly finances especually these days with rising costs.

    Collecting points is a great way to save too! in Canada Loblaws companies have PC points which are a great way to earn points to spend at any of the stores (superstore, no frills, maxi, shoppers, extra foods) and they give you points offers based on what you regularly buy, Sobey/safeway also has airmiles (currently) and is switching to scene+ points this fall which are also a good way to collect points toward your groceries!

    Cooking from scratch is key for me. Tomato sauce & one ingredient= food. My leftovers are always repurposed to salads, pizza or omelette. Beans and lentils are my favourite. Great video ❣️

    Frozen produce is not only cheaper but also higher in vitamins and micronutrients (according to studies). I love a good frozen fruit and veggie smoothie ❤

    I am only cooking for myself and I only eat small portions. What I do like to do is: I buy frozen vegetables like brussel sprouts and only defrost what I need for 1-2 days. A bakery nearby sells slices of bread. So one can only buy what they need. The following advice seems odd: I have no car and must carry all my groceries home from the supermarket. Therefore I order a bunch of tinned food and other stuff that you can eat a long time like noodles. I have food at home, don´t need to go to the supermarket and be tempted to buy by all these delicious foods and packages every 2 or 3 days. I also like beans. Also and this seems cruel: Lower your expectation. One get full with only noodles and tomato sauce or potatoes with cream cheese. There is no need for a big meal with meat, potatoes, vegetables and sauce and dessert. Sorry for any mistakes. I am German. English is my second language.

    Frozen fruit is such a win. Frozen banana is like ice cream when eaten straight from the freezer. And frozen blueberries are like sorbet. And served on cereal with milk turns the milk lilac which is really satisfying. No need to defrost.

    I appreciate you saying people should eat less meat. I of course think people shouldn’t eat meat, but, so many people say that being vegan is expensive, when actually it’s the meat, fish, and dairy that’s the most expensive!

    Good information for saving money. Eating less is one of my goals and I am not doing too good!🥴🤭 Also, using a small stockpile that we accumulated slowly when things are at a good price really helps us save. We date the canned food and put the newest in the back of pantry.
    We vacuum seal meats for the freezer and date these. We use gallon sized bags so we can reuse them. Every little bit helps us.

      the only thing that's really helped me with my "eating less" goal (recovering B!nge eater here) is making my own frozen meals. I got a bunch of those partitioned microwaveable and reusable containers and after Thanksgiving, made about 16 turkey or ham dinners to last the rest of the month (with labels and dates, of course). It's harder for me to overeat when I got just enough right there in front of me. I'm also doing my best to keep sweets out of the house--even pumpkin pie (whimper)--because they cause me to overeat big time.
      Got a whole skinny cabinet space dedicated to those container bins and the like, and smaller ones for sauces or side portions. I was happy to finally be putting all those things to good use and enjoyed every bit of the prepwork. Can't wait for my chest freezer to come in because then I can organize better and have more room, especially for the dry pantry staples that can be frozen like flour (my neighbor gave me that tip--saves room in the cabinet while preventing those awful bugs from coming out).

    One thing we do is join a bulk grocery store ie Sams for certain items that we/someone would buy a lot of: yogurt, eggs, veggies etc.

    Eating healthy isn't necessarily more expensive. A bag of Lay's chips right now at my local store is $4.69, and 1lb of strawberries is $5.99. Most people think nothing of buying chips and pop but their jaw's drop at the cost of produce. Frozen, as you mentioned, is often even less expensive. Also, baking at home lets you control sugar-- most of my recepies (which are just whatever I've come across in life, I'm no chef or anything) can have sugar cut by 1/4 to 1/3 and I swear you cannot tell the difference when eating. Much more cost efficient than buying pastries at the store, and you can avoid or have less preservatives, less sugar and fat. And there's copy cat recepies of basically anything you can buy in store, even name brand stuff like Oreo's.
