Pffft, the Rescue Bots Academy episode I mention in this one is actually titled "About a Rock," not "About a Bot"! Doh! That show loved to use the word "bot" in its titles so much it rubbed off on me. 😅
Chris can you do basics of my favorite spy changer transformers mirage
What the reply above/below me says but just mirage in general
I'm from indonesia
Could you do one for the Stuntticons? Did I spell it right?

Whirl is absolutely the type of guy who’d name his daughter after himself.
Optimus did it with his kid.
@@mr.redguard6702 since Beast wars.
@@scripted_valor They never said if Primal and Minor were related. And Lio Junior kinda named himself.
@Infinite Octopaw Yes, yes he would.
@@LordVanOskuro they did several times in og beastwars and in the new prime wars it is heavily insinuated that Primal is Orion prax's kid.
🤔😳 So Whirl is technically a major part in why the war started. Damn McFeely you always blow my mind.
Yep. The Senate's use of Empurata as a way of control gave Megatron all the justification he needed to start the war. You can't get rid of a practice like that (or Shadowplay by Senate order, as in the case of Shockwave) by asking nicely.
God I wish he would say something like ‘let’s give it a whirl’ when someone else comes up with a crazy plan
That would be awesome
maybe RB Whirl is Wrecker Whirl's Cyberspawn, the nano liquid some cybertronians use to reproduce a new protoform bot based on the original, such as the Optimus Primal is Optimus Prime's literal descendent.
Huh, I was thinking about maybe part of his spark somehow get transferred to RBA Whirl
@@gabrielchee8470 Transformers never really explains it due to being a kids series but some of the comics being aimed for older audiences showed one instance of a cybertronian forming a new bot out of his own fluid. The bot was basically a clone.
I am pretty sure at some point they decided to make their own version of Deadpool but without the Fourth Wall breaking, and the result was Whirl from Idw.
Talk about your unknown member of the Autobot. I never knew that this Autobot did not get involved with the original G1 series of Transformers.
9:10 they clearly used a recoloured version of shockwave head in the cyberverse version
Not really, Shockwave's CV head is fatter and a hexagon
Rescue Bots Academy Whirl is one of my favourite Transformers of all time.
(8:42) I have a stupid theory that Rescue-bots Whirl is the scraplets the IDW Whirl adopted.
@With Love from Nevada or maybe it’s just a disguise?
Honestly that makes no sense since she didn't know how to train scraplets. If she's a hunk of em wouldn't she knows how to deal with her own kind?
The idea of Rescue Bots Whirl being a younger sibling/daughter for IDW Whirl is incredibly amusing. Just thinking of a cheerful little girl standing next to...well, *WHIRL* is both adorable amazing xD

Megatron: you know, if we all get along, we can solve everything through peace.
Whirl: that sounds like a great reason to beat the shit out of you!
I read this in Rescue Bots Whirl's chipper voice and was very confused for a second.
Hearing that the senate ordered his mutilation due to him defying the caste system had me wondering why he didn't join the Decepticons and then in less than a minute you gave a probable answer. He beat the shit out of a Megatron who was a prisoner and in restraints.
Was noted in the IDW comics by Megatron that he had basically told his troops to not kill Whirl so he could save him for last after every other Autobot was dead.
"Goku : Dark! "
"I learn to hate in one your your cells! From one of your Autobots!" IDW's writing for Transformers was so good.
That's asking way too much from his underlings? Who'd even know if he was still alive by then.
@@rueceless7580 And than, in LL, we learn that Wirl actually created Megatron out of empathy >.

Didn’t realize how much they tied IDW Whirl with Rescue Bots Whirl together. I kind of love it.
This is the first I've heard about it too! I thought Rescue Bots Whirl was just a successor to Fall of Cybertron Whirl, the combiner team member and Wrecker. Since both characters come from the Aligned continuity. Given that Impactor and Roadbuster were listed among the dead in Prime, I thought Whirl, Topspin, and Twin Twist might also have been part of the Wreckers' traditional high mortality rate. Can't imagine Ruination having that high an instinct for self-preservation!
Which would make young Whirl's locker picture a bit tragic, now I come to think of it.
There’s actually a fan joke about that how these two both are actually related and RB Whirl is actually the daughter of IDW whirl
@@slacknhash she's basically og Whirl's daughter... now that's a really dark back story now that you think about it
@@slacknhash The Wreckers and Ultra Magnus had stayed behind on Cybertron for a while after FOC as well. I'm guessing Whirl saved a young Autobot who'd also stayed behind, then he died and she named herself after him in honor of him.
@@ltb1345 probably similar with Hot Shot since there was a mentioned of another Hot Shot in the Wreckers and there’s a Hot Shot in Rescue Bots. For we know all cybertronians that were born after Cybertron was restored were named after legendary autobots and veterans like Whirl Hotshot and probably Swideswipe and Grimlock.
For me the most epic Whirl moment was when he was miniaturised and left graffiti on the inside of Ultra Magnus in one of the IDW comics

Whirl was an amazing character in MTMTE and LL. Probably one of the series' most stand-out and well-developed character. There never was once a moment where he appeared and never made an impact and the situation fun. I love that he finally got his happy ending with Cyclonus and Tailgate.
Yeah like having fostered some robo fleas
MTMTE/LL remains the best written TF media ever, and Whirl is a big part of why I love that comic so much (though to be fair, I love almost every member of the Lost Light's crew).
Oh, I hated him at the beginning of MTMTE and suspected him of everything. Then he become one of my beloved characters.
"Whirl, will you ever just internalize your thoughts?"
"You can do that?"
Ностальгия....
I did enjoy the IDW incarnation of Whirl like others, and to be honest, I can see him as the true TF-equivalent of Deadpool, minus the fourth-wall breaking.
just Less annoying. lol
Huh thats odd. I never actually saw him as comedic. More cut throat and violent, i kinda liked it....
@@gerbill13 and even more depressing
And probably less effective
@@jordon8658 I think the comedic elements came into play when the other Autobots or Wreckers had to help Whirl curb his bloodlust when confronted with mundane problems.
I've always wondered why Whirl wasn't included much in early Transformers media when he was released. But when "Takatoku toys" was brought up, that pretty much explains everything.
Takara just brought the cartoon to their market and they refused to give Bandai free-advertising. But at least he became part of the greatest unit the Autobots have: the Wreckers!
When you think about it. There was a irl reason Sunbow didn't have the Wreckers. Barring Springer and later, Sandstorm.
@@twistedgaming9185 The Dinobots though...
Thankful that seems to have passed, as Whirl became a supporting cast in Cyberverse. So hopefully that means we’ll see more of him down the line.
I don’t know much about Whirl outside G1. The Rescue bot and IDW definitely sound like the most interesting. Thank you for such episodes and your informative channel and what you’ve done for TF and the community over the years.
The IDW incarnation of him was my personal introduction, and his character development and eventual friendship with Cyclonus quickly became one of my top 10
@@IzzyMarrie I have not read any comics outside of G1. I will read IDW though as I have the app and just finished rereading G1. Only problem is I have no clue where to start with IDW lol.
@@hemnair75 IDW's first run of TF comic books is one long continuity but has three phases. Phase 2 (out of 3) is by far the best, and it has a nice "new reader friendly" introduction to it. The comic to read is More Than Meets The Eye (1-57), followed by Lost Light (25 issues, #1 is basically MTMTE #58).
There are trades for MTMTE and LL, or if you want to read the entirety of Phase 2 including some stuff that sort of ties in, there's IDW Collection Phase 2 trades.
(There's IDW Collection Phase 1 trades too but I don't think Phase 1 is anywhere as good as Phase 2)

IDW did an excellent job of creating, explaining, and depicting Cybertronian culture before the Great War. The politics, functionism (Read; racism), government corruption, oppression, scandals and religious zealotry (not to mention the growing energy crisis) really exposes a society that was ripe for a huge revolution. If Megatron hadn't done it, someone else would have. As they show it in comics, it may well have been Orion Pax as he was just as fed up with the status quo as Megatron was. He also found himself on the wrong side of the law a few times. Anyone who hasn't read the IDW stuff, I recommend the story arc Shadowplay, that small story really shows how IDW established pre-war Cybertron culture. Shockwave and Whirl are two prime examples of the use of the mutilating process of empurata, a heinous and disturbing method of punishment for those bots that wouldn't fall in line.
Always nice to see another flying Autobot. And the single eye makes me think he's the Shockwave of the Autobots
Would like to see the basics on Tidal Wave or Astrotrain
Shockwave not only got the same punishment as Whirl but they also deleted his emotions.
@@Hektols And the result was the responsible of the entire IDW timeline. Whoops
All things considered he is basically the antithesis of Shockwave. Impulsive, irrational, and generally emotional.
Shockwave, if his personality was reversed.
I love Whirl so much, I'm so glad he is getting the love he deserves now.
My headcanon is that Rescue Bots Whirl is actually IDW Whirls daughter and she's secretly just that Colony of Scraplets that bonded with him. Also I love the G1 styled Rescue Bot design, I would love a toy of that.
Agreed
Thats what i was thinking
100% agree!
Oh Yes! This is grate, i love it!
Yes,
I think Whirl may be my favourite rescue bot. The energy and enthusiasm she has is just so much fun. My favourite appearance is an early episode where she is helping Hot Shot hunt down the missing rescue dummy and inventing ludicrously complex and unbelievable theories as to what happened.
Whirl is my favorite psychopath who started a 4 million year war and ended a 16 million year war

So we all agree Whirl is best dad, not just to Lil Whirl, but also to the Scraplets?
I love that comics Whirl and Rescue Bots Academy Whirl gets that sweet picture.
Im not sure if Cybertronians could have offspring but maybe it could be more like a kindship like how some lore have shown new cybertronians naming themselves after already existing ones.
Perhaps a sort of apprenticeship type arrangement,
cybertronians can reproduce in some continuities, it often involves two transformers giving up part or all of their spark to create a new one
@@k.m.sparks1190 Sounds about right.
@@k.m.sparks1190 hey I been actually wondering if there was a continuity like this for some time as I'm still delving into different shows. Could you name a few? (If you remember)
@@IzzyMarrie it's mainly the American G1 continuity
@@k.m.sparks1190 huh. Well, I mean, I still never finished G1 but I always thought G1 never touched on anything like that since they were created in that continuity. So unless it happens in a sequel series
This is one reason why I love "The Basics" - I had no idea that Whirl was created back in 1983 and was actually a part of Transformers for that long. My first introduction to him was with IDW and I thought he was an original creation for the comic series.
I love the irony of RBA Whirl being a future police officer considering the usual trouble Whirl has with authority.
Cyberverse Whirl: "I'm fine!" 😃
(Sees his friends being stuck with Energon-draining masks)
Cyberverse Whirl: "I'm *NOT* fine!!!"😱

Huh, I thought Shockwave was the only Cybertronian with a mono-eye head design, but the Autobots have one on their side as well.
They explained the whole process in the IDW comic. Really cool.
@@saturncrush may i ask, why does whirl or shockwave have one eye, is it something thats important or simply just because they were protoformed differently.

Rescue Bots Whirl is an adorable child and must be protected.
Indeed
She sure is
The thing I love best about IDW Whirl is that since he doesn’t have a “face” in the traditional sense they had to put EVERYTHING into his dialogue.
Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that Rescue Bots Whirl might be IDW Whirl's daughter. Not sure how a Cybertronian could reproduce unless a Protoform were used, but I still stand by my claim.
Apparently the showmakers thought so too. Wait.
*Checks if whirl is in a similar situation as hoist* ok that's a possibility.
IDW Whirl has trauma , Rescue Bots Academy Whirl has spunk and cuteness .I see a duo movie coming up .

Ah, back when Transformers toys used the word 'deluxe' correctly!
The original bio gets me wondering whether it was influenced at all by Murdoch from the A-Team - someone who plays up his own madness for effect rather than someone who is utterly consumed by it.
"Deluxe" in G1 just meant "licensed from Bandai" lmao. Deluxe vehicles, Deluxe Insecticons, etc.
Yeah, but you could argue they also were of greater quality than the rest of the line, so it fit. More, certainly, than to just refer to a size which is pretty much the 'regular serving size' of Transformers today.
It also made sense in the toylines where there was a Basic-class figure below the Deluxe-class. I think Beast Wars did that, with the next one up being Mega and then Super? Armada had a similar system.
Seems like Deluxe is the only term that's been used universally across the franchise. Sometimes making sense, other times not.
I guess it depends on what you regard as the 'standard' size. If that standard is at the smaller end - like scout class - then it could make sense that a size bigger than it is 'deluxe' but, I still would prefer if the term was used to mean something like 'premium'.
But, I'm just fussy about these things. I also have problems with 'leader class' as, often, characters given that size are not overall leaders, but rather the powerful side-kicks of leaders.
@@originaluddite Well that’s the thing, the name has nothing to do with quality or role. It’s just scale.
5:40 So basically, Whirl was technically responsible for the downfall of his own planet.
I’m just imagining RB whirl being the adoptive daughter of the whirl from the cybertron games (since they technically exist in the same continuity)
But I’d say aligned whirl would have been just as screwed in the head as the IDW one.
And I’m just imagining some sort of “parents day” at the academy where whirl jr (as I’ll call rescue bots whirl) is talking about how fun and nice her dad is. While whirl Sr. Chuckles to himself thinking “oh man, she has NO idea all the terrible scrap I’ve done”
I love Phelous's description of Whirl in one of his Transformers videos as "Shockwave's Ski-Lovin' Autobot Brother". 😁
The idea that someone allowed Whirl to have a kid (put a bit of his spark into a protoform or a cold body or however they reproduce) is pretty concerning ngl.
The whole kid part is not officially confirmed.
RBA and G1 Whirl are probably just close at least.
He’s the Autobot version of shockwave at least most incarnations of him appearance wise.
I like to think that Recsue bots Whirl is related to IDW Whirl because why else would RB Whirl have a drawing of herself and IDW Whirl on her own locker?
It's probably just an Easter egg.
I like the idea of a crazy lunatic whose actually a good guy
8:48 I like to have a headcanon that those two are: a) Brothers and Sisters or b) Father and Daughter.
G1 Whirl is a forgotten toy who didn’t get much time to shine,
IDW Whirl was a psychopath you felt sorry for and cried for,
Rescue Bots Whirl was the precious bestie of the team,
Cyberverse Whirl was an optimistic flyer,
Every other Whirl just exists,
A bot of so many faces, it’s no wonder why this bot was so crazy.
To this day I will believe that the picture is RA Whirl’s and the G1/IDW Whirl is her guardian/parent figure. It’s just kind of amazing thinking of lines for him being protective and trying to teach good life lessons to the lil’ chopper.
0:26, in memory of Hiromi Tsuru who voiced Ovellon Gazette/Whirl's pilot - Louise Ovellon whom her voice also ranges from Yoko from Leda - Fantastic Adventure of Yohko and Bulma from Dragonball.
Didn't think the IDW Whirl an' Rescue Bots Whirl were two different characters. So IDW exists in that universe too,eh?
9:03,Whirl in Cyberverse is like a nice guy compared to his insane self in the comics.
My favourite version has been the Cyberverse version ..and his "oned-step" toy from that series is one of the most satisfying of that type of toy. ...I like that he seems to either be a bit of a wally or just really unlucky as well as being a brave warrior, he is a really lovable character in that amazing series (Cyberverse is one of the best modern versions of Transformers, in terms of quality, storyline, pace, action and fun it it leaves Netflix's WFC series looking dull, boring and weak. I would easily put it up with things like Animated).
Cyberverse doesn't get nearly enough love and respect, it's such a good show. I haven't enjoyed a TF cartoon as much *since* Animated, truth be told.
So, Aligned Continuity has now not only 2 Grimlocks, but also 2 Whirls?
Huh. Neat.
Also 2 Sideswipes
Everyone's got a Transformer they'll ride and die for, and mine's Whirl. He looks cool, he acts cooler, and never ceases to entertain us.
In the IDW comics, Whirl got to use the catchphrase of another famous robot. Bender from Futurama.
Bite my shiny metal ass!
Soooo we're not gonna talk about how Whirl basically started the war, by smacking Megatron around, i bet megatron was just aching to bash his metal face in
IDW Whirl and Rescue bots Whirl co exist together? That’s both messed up and adorable at the same time.
Whirl: “Rescue bots Whirl, you were named after the bravest bot I know.”
Whirl: me
BRUH,
I just figured out the existence of two whirls.
Ok so there was this Christmas comic (within the mtmte) bit about this bunch of scraplets knocking on the door and whirl had to look after, at first, a newborn protoform (essentially a Cybertronian baby) and when they found out afterwards whirl took a liking of it because and legit manipulated him into caring about it so at the last panel formed its head and claws like whirls
Its been ages since I've first read about it so I probably skipped some important stuff
I love Whirl’s robotic design and unhinged personality. He’s almost like the Autobot mirror-Shockwave.
Yeah his eye the same as shockwave's, and he's a psycho
His Generations figure needs a rerelease or his Cyberverse figure needs the CAW Deluxe treatment.
With her Rescue Bot version, she was probably the one who bought him back from the brink, since Aligned version of Cyclonus is a bit of an a-hole.
The Generations figure unfortunely has some pretty major issues, particularly a tendency for his claws and parts of his legs to break. Maybe a retool of it?
8:50 similar to how Medix is Ratchet's nephew they're is a theory saying that the Rescue Bots Whirl is the Daughter of the Original Whirl
Whirl, the bot that created Megatron both mentally AND literally.
You should do a basic on Transformers families. Or a video theory. This is an element that always confused me. Also, headcanon, Rescue Bots Whirl is the other one's daughter
I never knew about this particular autobot even when he has such unique desing instead just recolors. Not gonna lie he looks very creepy giving Shockwave vibes with his single eye. Whirl has sure claimed himself and herself fitting place in transformers multiverse.
1:30 literally tactically insane
With everything in mind and reading up on a lot of Whirl lore, I have a fun idea for a potential incarnation for them in a continuity:
That of basically a robot version of the holomatter avatar combined with the IDW incarnation and Rescue Bot incarnation that's pretty much just Tiny Tina from Borderlands mixed with Jinx from League of legends, Izzy from Total Drama, and Max from Sam & Max. With a hint of Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls.
AKA, a super-energetic, silly and psychotic little (12 to 13 years old in Cybertronian years) femme bot with an eyepatch, a helmet with goggles that have a broken lense, a MASSIVE overactive imagination, a crazy grin 24/7, and a *LOVE* for chaos, fun, excitement, and explosions. Also, she's supposed to be a pilot, but since it's Whirl, you can expect calling her a "pilot" to be like calling Ace Ventura a "driver."
And before you ask about the lack of Empurata, she'll get in at some point and look like a little girl version of IDW Whirl.
omg thank you so much for this, whirl is one of my favourite characters from idw
I absolutely find Whirl interesting, what with the bombshell Megatron dropped on him in the comics, and my girlfriend absolutely loves rescue bots Whirl.
What IS IT with Transformers with helicopter alternate modes being portrayed as crazy heads?! Whirl, Vortex, Armada Cyclonus... Don't get me wrong, though. I actually think it's funny; still, why all the kooky copters?!
I thought I knew everything about IDW, and I had no idea Whirl's Holomatter Avatar was based off that female Legends character. I just figured it was something random a batsh*t crazy psycho might pick. XD
Other way around, the Legends character was based on the avatar!
Man it made me tear up a bit seeing the IDW Whirl with the Rescue Bots one. Maybe made him think what it would be like if that horror hadn't happened.
Always had a little bit of joking resentment for whirl
When I was younger I had a transformers OC, a cycloptic light blue with yellow accents jet with good ol clamp hands- I can swear to you I had never seen whirl in my life up until that point
Obv I love whirl hes hilarious.. that action master skyfall who shares his name however..
In my Transformers fanfiction, I'm definitely including the Wrecker Whirl as one of the characters.
So Whirl is responsible for Great War in IDW?, that friend ship of Cyclonus and Whirl reamains me typical buddy movies like bad boys etc…
Damn y’all ever be so insane that you get thrown off of a team of a lunatics
I loved Whirl in Rescue Bots Academy and for some reason I kept on shipping her and Hotshot and I don't know why. I still ship them to this day.
Cool. I ship her with Hoist.
I go on YT and that's one of the first vids I see. Why does the universe hate female characters?
In my head, Whirl has always been the Deadpool of that universe. After the Deadpool movie, I now read his dialog in the comics in Ryan Reynolds’s voice.
8:52 I don't know why, but the (possible) realtionship between the two Whirls in this universe reminds me a lot of Thanos and Nebula's one from What if...? (episode 2)😂.
You know, you ain't wrong.
I kinda want to think Rescue Bot Whirl is the daughter of OG Whirl. Meaning he was able to over come all his anger and become someone able to raise another.
My favorite whirl is the first live action incarnation, as that’s one of my first transformers toys. Fond memories of that figure. I still have him too
Noice
I remember seeing an animation of “the hole” that involved Whirl. He shot at a hole person. . .
Rescue Bots Academy Whirl is the best. FIGHT ME
My head canon is that RB Whirl and Wrecker Whirl are related in some way, either mentor and protege or family in some way, with her named after him.
Technically, he kind of set Megatron on his path of destruction… imagine being responsible for triggering a war that lasted millions of years… 😬
IDW Whirl: The guy who set Megatron down the path that would turn him into the warlord everyone knows and fears.
Whirl started the Decepticon uprising, then he star the ammonites rebellion, what else he is going to start?
I loved Whirl in IDW, and it really freaked me out when my kids watched Rescue Bots Academy. Lol.
