Are the parts in stock?
You received a sub and purchase of the plans from me !! I have no immediate plans to build.... but for 25 bucks, I totally want to support fellow garage project channel and builder !!
Love it! I just ordered the plans. I'm no newbie when it comes to CNC machinery, having built CNC routers and milling machines and I knew it was time to get a CNC plasma cutter in the Wet Coast Fab shop. Rather than spending the time designing and figuring it all out, I pulled the trigger on these plans! I can't wait to start building it and putting it to good use, perhaps using the machine to cut out non-3D printer component replacements for the gantry, etc.
Just got plans and kit with z axis kit very good quality I'm ready to get my steel and but I am going to increase my overall size to cut 36 x 49.5 sheet so I iam going to order 2nd kit to fully support grantry like the crossfire pro table . Plans are very simple and thought out. Order and build today
You just answered my question, thank you! Sitting here thinking, "How & why did they come to the decision of 28x30" size, and how could I make it at least 4x4ft?" I get 4x8ft sheets, so it'd be a real pain to cut down to fit this table size.
@@branchandfoundry560 well as they said cost was mo of the channel and the water pan only one i don't mind buying 2 pans I found vevor 32x32×2.5 stainless . Iam all in for $1500 as for first time cnc build and want to do router too not willing to spend 5k for plasma and then 5k + for router as I have fabrication tools don't want to do full 4x8 tables don't mind 2 /4x4 tables that I can move around they have limited space. I do too but don't mind loosing like 5x10 is for 2 tools i
Have small sign company so 4x8 or 3x8 ,2x4 seems pretty good for me and learning curve.
@@bobrossi1185 Thank you
Thanks for all you do and share! I'm looking forward to plans or a kit for the Torch Height Controller.
I'm tempted to buy this almost solely for the tube notcher. It would save me so much welding time on my exhausts if i didnt have to fill in my poor fit up 😂
I can't say enough good things about these plans. I always wanted a CNC plasma cutter but wanted to stay in a small budget. This was truly the best option out there. On top of that JD's Garage continues to add upgrades to the CNC table such as the pipe cutting feature and recently added the floating head for Z axis and never charge additional for the updated plans. They even started work on a THC and I am 100% in once complete. I used this plasma CNC table almost 5 or 6 days a week and just love it. I had a blast building this and JD's Garage was always there if I had questions. Thanks Guys!
How much was everything for the project? total cost
@@RW0- u notice they never mention that? ever?
@@schlomoshekelstein908actually if you just click on the link, you can buy the plans which I thought were pretty cheap really. They also mention the approximate total cost of the unit which is obviously well priced given the materials used. Looks like a solid, well priced machine. I will be buying the plans and building this beast. 👍🏾
@@schlomoshekelstein908it’s different for everybody as it depends on your location, how much you can scrounge and where you buy your parts. Do your own research, it’s not hard. If you’re on a tight budget, Aliexpress is your friend! 👍🖖
Not mention how much cost all
So bought your plans, have printed off and looked at vids etc,Fantastic effort to compile all that to be able to purchase it for $25 cant wait to start printing off parts and the build, beyond happy with purchase cheers David New Zealand
What you buy for $25?
Hello, I am in the process of building my "JD's Garage" plasma cutter. I purchased the plans and the 3D printed components. I have ordered and received all the other components, I just picked up all the hardware (nuts, bolts, washers, screws) and all I need now is to go get the metal. I love making and building things (hobbies). I am a hobbyist. I am in now way claiming to be an expert. I just know I am going to have fun building the cutter and using it.
Question: Can you do "tiling". cutting out a project piece longer the the work area of the cutter? Or, should I cut smaller pieces and use tabs and slot for registration to be welded?
Also, do you have a FaceBook page for the plasma cutter. This would be an area for others who have built the cutter to ask questions from the community, and to share their cutter and projects, ideas, tips & tricks.
I’m very interested in this, and think I’d like to do it, but was wondering if you’ve thought about how to make this scalable? In other words, can I build the small size you have plans for, then scale it up to a 4’ x 4’ or 4’ x 8’ or 5’ x 10’? Can the axis be made “modular” so you don’t have to rebuild an entirely new table for increased size? Looking forward to your response. :)
This is one of the best idea to build! Thanks for it.
I'm following you for quite a time now and absolutely love your projects! I will be soon acquiring your plans for the plasma cutter, but one quick question - how are you producing the GCODE for notching?
Just use fusion and do a cut-out.
Use your x axis or y axis to rotate the tube...
They have a "soup to nuts" video demonstrating a blank Fusion 360 to making a bracket, to setting up the "tool" - to the actual slicing - that creates the GCODE.
Can y’all please make a video on operating it. Especially the z axis touchoff and height adjustments . I’m having trouble making it do what I need. Thanks
I just buy a Langmuir crossfire. And I wish could see this channel before.
Love the videos I bought your plans. Keep the videos coming
First, this is brilliant and I'm going to start this journey soon. Second, the only question I have is the type of filament you're using for the 3d printed parts? I can print PETG, but not sure if you're doing this in ABS or another UV resistant material. Cheers!
I have mine almost complete on the assembly side will start the electronics by the end of the week. i hope the THC will be ready soon. Thanks
Hi JDG will like to buy the 3D printed Parts kit but will this kit also include the metric plans ??? thanks !
yes, it came with both
Hey thanks GOD for people like you, that makes others like myself with less money possibilities enjoy having a machine like that and be able to accomplish something they could only dream of!!!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Any tips on tube cuts as far as code examples or changes needed in drawings / code for that?
Do you supply dwg files so we can cut the pieces out with a plasma table? I have a buddy that could cut the pieces out for me to enable me to build this. Also the files for the 3D printed parts? I have a 3D printer.
My questions too an one of the reasons I have not bought the plans yet.
I've had my plasma cutter for sometime now and as you say it works flawlessly. And I must say your kits are of the highest quality. Thanks for the video!
What plasma cutter did you end up using?
@@pablogoyaz9765 I have a Thermal Dynamics 50A and a 50A no name Chinese plasma. Both work fine.
I am watching this from South Africa,i am willing to build my own cnc plasma cutter, where to buy the plans, and suppose i dont have 3D printer ,is it possible to ship those 3D printed parts to South Africa?
For that you would have to ask JD directly.
@@piwengema4534did you manage to come right, I'm also in sa and want to do the same
Omg that CNC tube notcher is brilliant!!!
How much roughly are these builds costing people ?
$300 - $500 depending on axis options
Outstanding!
i have a hypertherm powermax 45 xp without the cnc remote connector. do i just bypass the trigger wires with a relay or something with your setup? thats the only question i have befor i buy your plans and get started.
I would love to see a tutorial on how to do the pipe decorations like your JD's Garage on a pipe... Is it easy with Fusion 360?
How big a table can you build will that arm support
I've bought the plans, the 3d parts, and everything I need from Amazon for the table and z-axis except the 25 608ZZ bearings linked on the BOM sheet. They have been out of stock or too low of stock this past week or so that I've been checking. Do you have any other bearings you'd recommend?
Do you have plans just for the rotary attachment? Also do you run THC on your z axis?
Machine is done now how about video on openbuilds software to run machine this video was nicely done
Do you provide the drawings in mm and cm as well?
These plans seem like a very good value! I’m interested to know what kind of stepper motor controller you’re using.
So how much does it cost to build ?
How about complete start to finish tutorial on your kit
Hi, I am interested in buying the metric plans, when a new revision comes out or an add on such as torch height will be be given the lastest version? Thanks
Is there a metric version of the plans?
Sure is
Hi Jd, i just found your channel, gotta say this is awesome been wanting to put one of these together for some time now, looking forward to following your instructions on my very first one. gotta ask, do you plan on upgrading to a bigger table?
Do you happen to make a kit that caters for the metric sizes of steel in europe? E.g 1- 1/2 square is 38.1mm and its 40mm square available here
Sure does both 65 and 75mm
25 bucks, and its in METRIC!?!. Take my money.
Thank you by the way, this feels like something I a father of two toddlers will actually be able to do within a year or so =D
i thought for a second i was watching a William Osman video with that intro music
Hi, which software do you use to program the tube cutting? thanks and great plasma..
The main thing holding me back is the Ardino, do I have to program it or just wire it up to controllers? I want to buy the plans and parts just gathering information before I press buy.
The software programs the Arduino, no geek needed. See the software video. Openbuilds Control.
I better purchase what I can before you get bought out by a big corporate giant....then these videos and you web site will be no more...I've seen it happen....awesome CNC
For those that have built one do you have a
Ballpark cost for the complete build?
Just ordered the plans, everything looks great!
Printing first parts as I type this, Ordering steel on Monday, can't wait!
How did it turn out?
@@jethrosnyman8928 The build itself went great. The plans are well written, when JD comes out with another project I'll buy that too. without hesitation.
It's functioning perfect, but I haven't had time to learn any of the CAD & post process stuff yet. Not JD's fault, I'm a welder not a computer guy. Once work slows down a bit I'll tackle that part. Big thumbs up!
Great video, I'd like to do a project like this. Minus the plasma cutter and computer, what's the approximate costing to make this? Metal, controllers and all the misc parts..etc. thanks
I'm interested in seeing or hearing more about the rotary axis tube notcher.
Hello, its excellent project What is tube cutting software?
Can you build a 5x10 with these plans?
what is the size of the cutting are of this plasma cutter
If you have any doubts about purchasing the manual kit, do you have a step-by-step guide on how to do everything? including programming?
What is the cost for this? And what size plasma ?
Im very interested in the tube cutting setup. I want to incorporate rhis into my pool cue crafting.. Can you or anyone please share info helpful for rhis sort of tube or shaft system. Of course id be using this with router instead of plasma. Im new to cnc so i dont wven know the lingo what type of cnc is this? Thanks
Super cool!
Any suggestions around what type of plasma cutter to avoid? Ie avoiding HF arcs d/t emf noise? Is a pilot arc system ideal/necessary?
Great video thank you so much for the material
Belt technology has come a long way in recent years. When used correctly they will last and extremely long time and can hold better accuracy than lead screws. We have had the table for just about a year and have used it in a wide variety of conditions and have not been able to measure and loss in accuracy. The life of the torch tip will make far more of a difference on accuracy than the belt wear ever will.
@@jdsgarage701 Great, thanks for the info I wish you a good fortune
Your point about belts is sound, but this isnt a cnc/router machine. Belts would be a poor choice for a cnc/router machine because of the force required to push the router bit through material. In this case the belts are just used to position the "print head". Also belts are fiberglass reinforced, so they dont stretch.
@@tazanteflight8670 Alright I see, thanks a lot for that, however I have a theory, because of my obsession with CoreXY, is it doable to build a 1.6m x1.6m CNC plasma machine? Because for that I will need about 12 meters of belt. A friend of mine suggested instead of belt to use Chain, cause it's rigid and reliable and he says they last forever (sort of), now the reason behind my theory is; a CoreXY CNC plasma is 1 motor less which means reduced cost but still efficient, precisionwise it's solid, however the elephant in the workshop, is there a 12 meter+ belt in the market and when it's long does it perform the same as when it's somewhat short, in this video it's 28" X 32" which is 71.12cm x 81.28cm I want to go a bit higher than that. Sorry for long post, thank you very much
@@red_juan IMO corexy is a mistake. Using "binding force" to position a printhead, is bad science. Positioning should be as precise as possible, so dedicated, and simple X, and Y axis drive will always be more accurate. Also a long belt, or long chain will have a lot of slop. Using tensioners to reduce slop, will only stress the stepper motors. It is interesting, and neat that corexy "works", but it is not logical.
great, thanks 👍
very impressive job with this project, one question and maybe you made a video that I haven't found is the software for the Arduino. I am guessing its open share but do you have a video explaining how that side works?
really great work! I won't be able to build one for a while but when I do I have this bookmarked 😁
I purchased the plans a couple of weeks ago and am still gathering the materials, but had a question... the schematic @1:30 shows what appears to an ARM processor. In your BOM and earlier videos, it's an Arduino Uno. Have you guys upgraded your recommendation? Thanks. 🍻
The BOM and schematic in the plans is correct, stick with that.
I'm contemplating getting your plans but before I do I'd like to ask this, are you using openbuilds cnc controller to run it?
Hey guys, I'd like to buy your plans, but I live in Austraila and checkout is only for US, anyway I can still buy them?
Hello! I would like to buy the project but I would like to know what MOTORS you used to find someone on the market. In Argentina is not easier find motors and drivers. Regards!
Any thoughts of making it also capable of cutting square tube?
Quick question will the electronics work with Lotos LTP7000 Pilot Arc machine? Don't want to order a bunch of parts and then find out it won't work with the machine I have. Thanks for the info.
Nice work. I love the use of 3D printing, and that tube cutter is awesome !!
What thickness tubing did you use for the build?
Where are the dimensional drawing for the stl parts. Mainly the 2" bearing supports. I looked every where only seeing stalls. Great if you want 3d prints with no mods. But I want to mill aluminum parts for the centerr tube mount and caps that hold the bearings. STLs do not provide sizes for that purpose.
Hi guys! You are awesome.!
I M on the fence to build, or modify, a cnc router, and plasma hybrid machine.
And tube cnc cut as well.
I can build all the framing.
But would need all plastic parts and most of all. All electronics, motors, etc. Please get back to me for a quote to supply me these parts and plan for a 4x8 machine work table.
Cheers!
By the way, I'm not on a budget, if you suggest any thing better for our needs, like carving aluminum one day and cuting plasma, the other, and might laser mark to... Sky is the limit I know! Keep me posted!
Very nice video. One of these days I'll try and build it (bought the plans already). Thank you.
Is there a somewhat inexpensive plasma cutter made for CNC use ? Building the mechanics is not hard or expensive, it's the plasma cutter that hits your wallet. Don't want to spend 5x more than the table to get it running lol
I was on the fence about the plans and then.. you brought up the tube cutter. Brilliant! It's a shame it seems so hard to find CNC compatible (with voltage & arc OK output) plasma cutters in the UK at a reasonable price :( .. but the search for one continues!
wat does this run off of 220 volt
How much for one in kit form? I'm useless with instructions and electric. Can I have a price shipped to the uk. Thanks.
Can you tell me the approximate cost? Please
I decided to tackle this build - with no 3d printing experience and no CNC experience. Bought a "Longer" brand 3d printer and made all the parts. Fabricated everything else in a weekend and had it all assembled and moving smoothly. Bought all the stuff listed in the list and then tackled the electronics. If I would have read ALL the instructions - I would have not had ANY problems - but a quick email asking what I did wrong was responded to quickly and within minutes I was back on course!!! My first cuts were not so great - and it turned out I had a very thin and wavy metal that caused lack of continuity on the plasma - and would "flame out". Put a nicer (not new) piece in and it ran flawlessly. I cannot say enough good things about the effort that these gentlemen put into these plans and project. I do not yet have the z-axis but will be ordering all the parts tonight - and they have a THC amperage management in the works too! My first few test pieces were 2" square and 2" circle to see how true this was running. Dimentionally I was 2.002 x 1.987 square and 1.994 round (there was about .005 variance around the circle). I will try and recalibrate as I think I might have been off in the Y axis... I am VERY pleased! I hope they sell a LOT of plans to make their efforts worth while! Thank you!
Hello I am planning on buying the plans and 3D printed parts. My question is: Where do the electronics and wiring come from?
HI Gents, could you please point me to the specs needed for the 3D printer used for this, ie filament type part dimensions, resolution and whatever else is of relevance. I will probably buy some plans but just wanted to make sure I can access a suitable 3D printer first. Cheers
An Ender 3 with and genetic PLA filament will do the trick.
Couple suggestions - plans should have version/revision #'s so as you make improvements/adjustments one can clearly see what version of plans you're on. The 3d printed washers I received for the bearing blocks were too thick, impossible to get the bearings + washers into the bearing blocks as shown in the plans. I flattened one of the washers each side and that helped make the assembly possible. The tube frame bolts are about 1/2" too short. I got mine together, but it's not great with only a couple threads in the nut. Plans should spec frame bolts (2.5" and 4.5" 3/8 bolts) to be 1/2" longer.
Thanks for the heads up, these issues are being rectified.
silly question but can I get plans in metric? if not happy to convert my self just think that it might already be out there, otherwise looks great, looking forward to buying plans and making it, does it also come with plans for the pipe cutting rotation thingy?
just answered my own question and see that you have metric version of plans thanks in advance and looking forward to making this, might take me some time to make.
Lazy CNC plasma cutter is best use on hand plasma is Not lazy but if people use Lazy not hand on use of CNC plasma cutter
So are you selling the planes for this Table and if so what is the price $$. because I have a plasma cutter please respond back
How much cost all materials needed thanks?
Just a heads up. If you are making cash off this, and I really hope you do, please get the paid version of fusion 360. Just think about how much fun you have had with it. Worth it.
Hi JD I would like to know what size box is used for the electronics also what gauge wire is used and the shielded cable and can i get them, I don" know much about electronics. Thanks much
You're telling me you have a Non-Commercial License for Fusion 360?
Stumbled across this trying to figure out why my 3d printer sucks at PETG.
Seriously wondering why a professional shop is still using the free version of Fusion 360? Particularly given how reasonable even monthly rates to Autodesk for professional use are, and that such payments are likely deductible as a business expense?
does it have the info about what motor to buy and the gears and extra accesories like the rollers, why dont you guys just sell the whole thing and let one assemle it, one more thin can it be extended to a longer size to cut?
I bought a Langmuir Crossfire Pro but still haven't cut out anything I can understand the programming I want to make wildlife deck railing inserts but can't get it to work and I've had it for almost 2 yrs. I'm thinking I'll sell the thing and cut hy hand

Hey guys, I am having a hell of a time with the Arduino. I have a Due Board. The Openbuilds firmware tool no longer has the Arduino support, i try loading it (Grbl 1.1) n the IDE, it doesn't show up. Can you guys do an updated video on the programming?
What cable goes from the back of the plasma cutter to the computer ? It doesn’t come with it
i have mine complete but have not run a program on it yet
Did you run into any problems with the drivers or motors?
@@Hackjob-Extraordinaire i did not mine went together as per the diagram
Is there ANY way you have these plans in metric ? :D
Is there a place where we can send you message about things that you might want to change or fix in the plans? I'm in the process of building it and i found a few kinks that could be ironed.
I have a plasma table but having trouble getting a G code to the table to cut the part missing the specific sequence hoping to learn it so I can open this machine to a whole new way to build things. Thanks
hi I have bought the plans couple of weeks ago, What are the 3d printed parts made from ? place abs ?
Could this plans be usefull for someone like me living in metric country ? i would love to build this .
There is a metric version of the plans.
Damn... I just designed a part to be cut from 3/16" thick plate steel. If I had access to that machine my life would be changed forever!!!!!
