  • This is the newest stl release from Planeprint.com. I printed with pla+ everything. Has a 4s motor combo in it. way overpowered but to offset weight I chose a larger battery setup instead of 3s and lead to achieve cg. Flight time of 20 minutes with 3300 4s pack. This is the maiden flight. Very heavy side crosswind making takeoff and landing more than a challenge. But it's on the ground safe. Great looking classic glider for sure.

Nice to see ask14 flying.. I’m printing one now...maybe lower the left wing so it won’t catch more air .. what about using the spoiler on landing?

So that was a very windy day and was like 5th attempt to get it on the ground. I should have passed on flying for sure.
So here is the scoop on the air brakes. They are not air brakes the are "lift brakes". So on the real full size version if you are trying to come down or gaining to much lift you flip those up and the plane aggressively losses lift. The same applies to the model. You flip those on it drops hard! Not like flaps or a crow braking setup like modern gliders have. It's an air dam on top of the wing to aggressively stop lift. So if you are flying high up and stuck in a thermal flip those on and it will no longer be climbing be coming down. Use with caution. If you where to apply these close to the ground you would be in the ground. Even adding a small amount of them make the gliders attitude a steady drop not forward flight. I am amazed how effective they are. But it does not slow the glider at all. Just make it come down at a good rate. Also gets very pitchy when they are on. So after playing with them for several flights I have decided they will only be used if climbing up out of site when cliff soaring. Otherwise the plane slows down just fine on a normal day. Although when cliff flying we are out on pretty windy days so not sure how this plane is going to do. We will see. I am very tempted to remove the retract and wheel for a smooth belly or a wheel more flush mounted solid like the ASW28. The setup on the ASK is pretty weak.

@@goldendredger many thanks!! That weight is really good! Even without using the PLA LW the final weight is really good! Cheers

Good news the wing tips have wheels built into the design. So it's actually rolling on little tires when wing tips are down and touching. So it's not grinding the wing away. That's the design of the ASK 14 even full scale.
