Mini black powder cannon! Golf ball bore size! New Years slow motion!
This is my little Golf ball cannon I turned on my lathe. Bore diameter is slightly bigger than a golf ball and 2.5" long. Short fat little cannon like Acme cartoon cannon. We shoot it on New years and 4th of July with a T-shirt wad only. about 500 grains of FFF powder and the t-shirt wad packed in tight. Hits very hard and has a nice fireball! It with around 150 grains shoots golf ball about 300+ yards. Cannon is high grade hardened steel and the rest including wheels is all mild steel. wheels are turned from solid 5" round bar. Weighs in around 5 pounds. Lots of fun. Have shot it off well over 100 times at this point.

This is the maiden flight. Very heavy side crosswind making takeoff and landing more than a challenge. But it's on the ground safe. Gre...

A step could be eliminated by zeroing the caliper when you measure the blade thickness. Then when you measure a tooth, the caliper will already subtract the blade thickness.
Awesome
what if one tooth is out of set higher than what you want it to be??
If it's one tooth just index that tooth to the opposite pusher and give it a little push. Then index it to the correct position for 2 teeth and push it back up to what it should be. If the entire blade has more set than wanted I will normally just get another blade that has less pitch if it's for a specific wood species or frozen log whatever. The less you can push the teeth around the better life you will get out of the blade, but you can flip the blade inside out this will put the teeth opposite direction and then set the tool up just like normal except you will be pushing set out of the teeth rather than putting it in. With that said in the last 15 years I have not done this once.
Genius
I built one and find the positioning by hand to be too tedious
👍
Very good video!
super idée, avec trois fois rien et deux morceau de cornière. Merci
I have a woodland HM 130 max bandsaw mill, I run both 7/8" and 3/4" pitch blades, so I guess I would need to order two of your tooth setters? one for each pitch.
Hello, Yes you would need each size. I can set up both on one. The 3/4 shift to one side and 7/8 to the other. Problem is then you have to back the size of everytime you use the opposite size so the wrong pitch do not touch when using the opposite size. Very time consuming. It's easy to have each size and once set up for your preferred set you never have to adjust it. They are always ready to go. So I highly recommend getting one for each pitch.
Thanks a lot !
great, simple design
I believe you could build a more accurate gauge that will automatically set teeth exactly without checking each tooth . If you want 075 set bender preset bender for opposite tooth
You only have to check the tooth during the initial setup. Once it's set for each side for the proper amount that takes all of about 10 minutes to do you are good to just roll through the blade or blades doing an occasional spot check. Of course I can make a fully automated setter and can make a lever operation that sets each tooth and advances. But that's already available and those machines are very very expensive. This gives you a setter at home that is easy and uses a vise you probably already have.
Just found this video and color me impressed... Will order one as soon as I look at my blades.
Great 👍 simple design.
I finally got my version of your saw setter up on my RUclips channel. Let me know what you think.
Very good job! Having the advance is great. Early on I tried and tested several setups to include the lever for advancing teeth. But quickly ran into issues with different brand blades having different shape so the advance would not fit every blade on the market. So back to simple. Also price plays huge factor as well. My personal setup was similar to yours. I sold it along with my original bandsaw mill. Now getting another mill and will build another indexing setter and my sharpener is so close to being ready to release. Sourcing parts that I can depend on has been a huge issue. But it will happen. You done a great job and nothing beats being able to set and sharpen your own blades.
Could I use a picture of your setter to refer folks to your setter. I am making a slightly automated setter based on your design and would like to refer to your site on how to adjust both. Thanks much.
I loved your design so I built one myself, but with an auto advance lever. I referenced your site as having the non auto advance one for sale at a good price. I do not plan on building any more. i hope to put a video on my youtube site if it is all right with you.
I checked you Ebay page looking to see if you had the blade sharpener you were building up for sale. I don't see it. When will they be for sale?
Hello John! It's in final stages. Works great now just sourcing a few bits for a run of them. Bolts and materials are getting pricey. Having trouble getting some in. So may have to make a few changes on the hardware. So once I have a solid parts list I will list the sharpener up. I say give me about 2 weeks it should be ready to go. Thanks!
good
Very nice! Love your videos! Thank you for sharing!

Tooth pitch changes??
I have all the common pitches listed up. You need a setter for each pitch blade. If I don't have your pitch or blade listed just message I will make one for your size.
@@goldendredger thanks for your reply mate, I have very recently purchased the mill and in the process of modifying it, I will check the blades tomorrow and make sure they are all the same pitch. I live in Australia mate, any problems with postage?
Thanks for the info. This is very good info on the way the setters work and how adjustments are made on a basic platform. I have a few ideas for mixing this platform with one of my old progressive shotgun reloading presses. I should be able to build a machine I can turn on and the same way the auto sharpener sharpens the mill blades I will set it up for pressing the set. It will not be as accurate as your because of spring back like you said but the ability to set it and let it run is too easy. For a blade that only stays sharp 6 hours and looses set after 12. It’s not worth my time doing this. I’m better off milling and buying a new blade more often. But thanks for the design and knowledge on your product.
very nice
Any progress on the sharpener?,I am interested .. great video
Yes very close. Having some supply issues that are causing some delays for both metal and hardware. But got it sorted out I think so I can do a final version and get this out there asap. So hang in there with me just a bit more.
I'm definitely interested in the sharpener as well...!
@@goldendredger Interested in one too.
Absolutely awesome mate!!
Very nice 👌
Thank you!
Great work!
Thanks!
I need one for my Diston Keystone Perforated Lance.
I just watched your video. looks like a simple and great way to set tooth pitch. Im curious if a person couldnt sharpen the blades as well with this setup, using a dremel? I want to try it after mine are delivered, but wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded at this.
I am working on a simple electric sharpener that uses a similar setup to this to sharpen as well. I been super busy so have not finished yet but few weeks should have it available for sale along with my setters. Watch for it soon on my channel and eBay.
"Set" and "pitch" are 2 different things.
Use a second nut to keep the bolts nipped up tight 🙌
Just ordered one. Seem perfect for my set up. I have a Woodland Mills HM 122 (entry level wood mill). Got any suggestions on how to self sharpen a band saw blade? I used a dremel tool that seemed to work ok.
I am working on a budget sharpener now. Next few weeks I should have it available. Thanks for ordering a setter. I am very busy making them. Makes a guy feel good to be able to help out others to saw on a budget the same as myself. Pretty cool.
@@goldendredger Cool! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Thanks for offering budget minded tools for the hobby sawyers.
@@goldendredger were you able to build a sharpener? Link?
Did it work out ? I hVe the same saw
Just placed my order. Great channel. Liked and subscribed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much! Happy milling to you!
Nice Mosin!
I just got your setter. Looks very nice and works so good. I used this vid to make the adjustments and works perfect. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I recommend to anyone who needs a tooth setter without a lot of spare cash. Thanks for doing this for all of us hobby sawyers.
Super! Glad to hear! Happy sawing and have fun! Thanks for buying one.
Its easier to zero the vernier on the blade behind the teeth and than take a measurement of the blade and tooth, this tells you the set. No calculations needed.
How much are they cost
What's the link to your ebay ?
Sorry about that. I had the link in the description. Looks like RUclips removed it. Here it is again. This is for 7/8" pitch. For 3/4" or 1" see my other items for sale link on eBay. www.ebay.com/itm/Bandsaw-blade-tooth-setter-7-8-affordable-blade-set-home-sawyer-WoodMizer-Cooks-/264249461492?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
@@goldendredger thank you very much sir
cant beat the Timber
Impressive! Beats buying a multi 100$ setter , great job
My blades go up, down, flat. The set teeth are next to each other. Go around twice?
So if you just move the blade so the straight tooth is in the middle of the 2 push bolts. So of course the 2 are offset back to back but slide it till the middle neutral straight tooth is in the middle then set. If it's pushing NOT the correct direction for your teeth to line up with one straight tooth in the middle and that's why it's not lining up you need to simply turn your blade inside out then the straight tooth will long up in the middle just fine. So flip your blade inside out. Just don't forget yo flip it back before you put it back on your saw.
Awesome flight. Good looking plane!
Howdy. How do I know what size to buy? Thanks
What's your blade specs? But it is easy. Measure the tip of one tooth to the very next tooth tip. It will be 7/8" or 3/4" or 1". This is the pitch of the blade. These specs are also provided by your blade manufacture of the blades you are using.
